So Dd1 is a lovely girl; really kind and helpful, works hard and does well in academic subjects. However, she is quite quiet and unassuming so never really gets noticed.
She is rubbish at sport and drama although she tries her best.
I have just noticed that every year the students who get the most praise points are the sporty ones and those who get the leads on the school plays etc. They are also good at academic subjects too though.
I know it means nothing long term but it would just be nice if she was noticed for once. Even in Primary it was the same.

but not in the way of 'being reasonable' or 'not being disruptive' like in KS1. these were more like insulting.

I was that quiet studious academic child that was no bother. I suppose it is quite boring being like that , it's all in the head no one can see it easily. Whereas sport and drama is actually seen.

Yes I was pretty much ignored by teachers too. If you have good parents that encourage you, fine. But if you don't, it can be demoralising.

It is unfair but happens nonetheless and as patents, it is just sad.
Dc1 is SEN. Never won a thing. Had more sanctions then house points. Very bright but performed badly in test environments. Social outcast with peers. Most teachers found DC1 hard to teach because of sen. Final year, produced a fantastic gcse project that won awards in school and at other competitions they entered it into. Failed the subject at gcse because of exam. Peers were gobsmacked when name was called at prizegiving because not one of the high performers or usual clique. We were bursting with pride.
DC2 is a wallpaper kid. Struggles through classes keeping a low profile. Gets good feedback at parent's evening but is neither exceptionally bright or way behind. It is like they hardly notice DC2 is there at all. Tries really hard but never gets recognition for the daily struggle just to stay afloat. Sad, sad, sad.
I used to sit at primary school prize giving and list the kids that would be rewarded before they started. It was always those whose parents were very close to the school or brought back sports awards.
Wallpaper kids will never get the recognition they deserve because they are not seen, they just "are".

I thought I was replying to what people say. Otherwise why use the posters name.
I am not going to do anything apart from ensure that she knows I value what she does.

Actually oblomov I think the only advice I have been offered is to carry on praising her at home so I wonder if you posted on wrong thread.
Maybe my comprehension skills are off this morning.
