To think robots are going to be doing many jobs in the future?

I think many middle class jobs will barely exist in 20 years. They will be organised along the same lines as self service tills with robots doing most of the work, and one actual person on hand to deal with any unusual issues.

So I can see GP surgeries being organised like this, with 6 robots and 1 GP. Counselling practices, solicitors, and many other jobs.

I agree OP, I don't know if it will be in 20 years or more/less, but I'm pretty sure we're heading that way. I hope by then we'll be able to turn it into a good thing, and focus on having more fun, become creative etc. being stupidly optimistic, I know

Also drivers jobs won't exist, with driverless cars and vans being the norm. Far less carer jobs with robots replacing many jobs.

Yes almost impossible.

It won't be robots, physical robots are difficult.

It will be artificial intelligence - various computer programs will be able to automate lots of admin, customer service, legal and medical stuff.

It's already happening. There are already articles being written by AI, chat bots answering customer service messages...

I imagine we'll eventually coin a catch-all term for every active/activating thing that's not human.

There was a programme about a counsellor robot on TV. It was a unit that sat on a desk.

In some ways it has already happened. Look at car factories as a classic example - used to have lots of people working on the track fitting each bit of the car and so much of what they used to do was taken over by robots years ago. However, other things evolve to. The more technology advances, the more that is expected. Think back to 35 - 40 years ago before computers and e-mails, all paperwork was handwritten or typed up. In theory, that should mean nobody works in office / clerical / secretarial jobs anymore, but in reality, we just have to do a lot more "paperwork" than we ever used to - from producing data, to communicating with far more people.
Think of big employers such as call centres that never existed 20 years ago, or data analysts etc. Look at all the records police can now access that used to be impossible. Think of all the advances in medicine, etc, so procedures that were never dreamt of 20 years ago can now be routinely done.

Yes there will be new jobs that happen, that don't yet exist.

But I think GP jobs are easily replaced in this way. Most GP visits are routine. Six robots could see a lot of people. And 1 actual human for unusual situations. Also people would get appointments much more quickly.
