Swaying the sex

I have a wonderful ds and I am thinking about trying to conceive a second. If I do this baby will definitely by last. I’d be delighted with a baby of either sex and I know it is not a right to have a child. It may not even happen this time I’m older now and people don’t always conceive as easily second time.

I would if I was to be completely honest be thrilled with the idea of a little girl because I already have a boy who is fantastic, so would like one of the other sex to experience having a daughter. I will probably get a flaming for this but if I was to choose I would choose to have a girl this time. Are there any mumsnetters who tried to sway the odds with diet/conception timing to a baby girl, and did you have a girl?

Then I think to myself is it even reasonable to try doing this (even if it’s not very scientifically effective). A healthy baby is all anyone should really be aiming for and I would be equally happy with a another ds. Is it reasonable to try to alter the course of natures sex selection with natural methods? I just can’t shake that nagging feeling a little girl would be lovely.

I suppose you could look at it as a superstition or old wives' tale like not walking under a ladder or keeping your fingers crossed. No grounding in scientific terms but people like to follow these rituals.

I don't think it's wise to endorse the notion that you can sway the sex of a baby on a public forum because there may be women that take it too far and start not only cutting out food groups but start inserting dubious items into their vagina too Shock

There probably are people making money off the back of this too and cashing in on women's longing for a girl or boy.

My advice? Relax, throw away your ovulation charts and have lots of sex! Wink

cherryontopp · 30/11/2017 21:07

Cherryontop as I have said a child of either sex child would be loved and welcomed. So please keep the don’t bother with a second child comment to yourself. I am in charge of my ovaries thank you, I won’t be heeding advice not to have a second child by a random stranger online

She says whilst online asking for advice iff strangers how to sway the sex of a second child Hmm

Orangesandlemons1 · 30/11/2017 21:15

That’s right cherry. Well done you read it correctly Grin I asked about swaying the sex of a potential child. Not whether to have one Wink.

Thanks lost in the nineties. Probably wise words. But if there was any evidence on whether or not sex could be swayed I dare say people would try and make lots of money from it. I’m thinking extra strong herbal peppermint tea capsules for ridiculous prices. Could be quite exploitative really.

tiny sparkly.... how do you KNOW it was random chance?

Urubu · 02/12/2017 09:54

Margaret
On a previous sex preference a woman said that even after multiple rounds of IVF and miscarriages she was desperate for a girl above all else. I was (and still am a bit) astonished by that, but that was her experience. We're all different
That was me!
Glad to see that even if we weren't agreeing in the discussion your conclusion was that we were just different, not that I was being a lunatic Smile

Oranges your post at 30/11/2017 19:33 is really sensible and wise.

Italiangreyhound · 02/12/2017 11:39

Thanks SwimmingInLemonade I found that interesting too.

specialsubject why bother posting on a thread you clearly are not interested in.

QueenAravisOfArchenland people are encouraged to explore the evidence, nothing more.

MargaretCavendish that is a very good point about how much more fragile male foetuses are. I like to think female foetuses are stronger for a biological reason, like the Hunan race has evolved stronger female foetuses for a reason of survival. I wonder if that is true in other mammals/animals?

tinysparklyshoes · 02/12/2017 14:06

tiny sparkly.... how do you KNOW it was random chance?

Read the thread! Logic, science, observation, millenia of human experience. It's not hard to know.

fixthefreezerdavid · 02/12/2017 14:11

There's nothing wrong with trying to sway the gender if you know do certain you would be happy to by either gender!

I did it and after 3 boys I got a girl, but I would also have loved another boy.

I think because I was older when I had my daughter it helped- I had a regular cycle, knew exactly when I was ovulating.

Good luck!

Orangesandlemons1 · 02/12/2017 14:26

Thanks italian.
Tiny until someone proves otherwise which means might not even happen in my lifetime, then I will continue to think there may possibly be other factors that influence whether or not a woman’s egg is more likely to be fertilised by xx or Xy. Also, I would be open to the possibility that some women may be more likely to successfully carry a male or female baby, due to hormone levels or other things, but that’s a whole other debate.
Fix the freezer did you just do shettles or any other changes/methods?

Ok, and until someone proves otherwise I will believe that the world is controlled by an immense flying spaghetti monster and run by lizards in human skin.
You can't prove otherwise, so it's a perfectly sensible thing to think. All hail his noodliness and his flying fiery meatballs, R'amen.

Italiangreyhound · 02/12/2017 14:34

But Tiny unless you are trying to have a boy or a girl it doesn't matter to you. So why be so down on people trying. You just don't know.

tinysparklyshoes · 02/12/2017 14:36

It does matter. It offends my sense of logic.

We can be interested in things that don't directly affect us personally at any given time you know. More people here should try it.

Orangesandlemons1 · 02/12/2017 14:41

We don’t know everything about biology and genes there are still many discoveries to make about these things tiny. What we do know is that humans exist, that they have evolved, and that sperm and eggs come together in procreation. All some people have suggested is that there might be other factors impacting on this process than what we know/has been proven. It would seem to me arrogant in someways to think that we know everything about fertility and conception. I imagine in 100 years they will look back at what we know now and think it was very limited.
In comparison, There is no evidence anywhere for the existence of your spaghetti monster and lizards in human skin so it seems a rather ludicrous point to make.
However I agree you are entitled to believe whatever you like, it’s not harming anyone so do carry on, I hope your spaghetti monster is a friendly one.
