So I've got 20 million in (imaginary) pounds. Where would you live for this and in what? I'm only after one home as I find having a home in each continent discombobulating.

tiptopteepe · 28/11/2017 14:03

Central London. Islington or Camden. Old house maybe victorian... big windows, leafy garden.

I think that would use up the entire 20 mil. Maybe thered be a little left over for a nice velvet sofa.

liz70 · 28/11/2017 14:03

I'd buy a small castle on a picturesque Scottish island, and do it all up inside so it was all cosy and insulated whilst still looking fab and authentic on the outside. With its own ferry so I could reach the mainland any time I wanted, weather depending. I might rent some of the rooms out to tourists to give me an income to help cover the maintenance costs. Heavenly.

whiskyowl · 28/11/2017 14:04

Chrys is on target for being banned within the hour, I see.

I would buy a house in London and a house in Suffolk. Both would be totally lovely, but more like £1m than £20m. I'd use the rest of the money to set up my own charity. Smile

TheABC · 28/11/2017 14:06

I would not bother to buy a house. Instead, I would blackmail a developer into releasing some land to me and build a hobbit-style village.

abbsisspartacus · 28/11/2017 14:06

Someplace warm >shivers

thecakefairy · 28/11/2017 14:11

Tricky, as I was so miserable in my old home, so moved 6 months ago to a beautiful little flat in a great area and still can't get over how much I love it here!
I'd more than likely buy property for my children in the same area (if they wanted it) and stay where I am.
Before finding my happy home, I constantly dreamt of a home with a view of the River Thames, with the hustle and bustle of boats going by all day. Maybe Marlow or Henley? Probably only a holiday home though.
The only thing that bothers me though, is every time I go and visit the area, it gets busier and busier. Obviously popular with everyone else too!

SlobSister · 28/11/2017 14:13

San Diego. Perfect climate.

HotelEuphoria · 28/11/2017 14:13

Here, where I live, but in a bigger house surrounded by my family and friends.

But I would have some amazing holidays in lots of different places for weeks at a time.

Goldenbug · 28/11/2017 14:13

Actually I am coming into money. A nun from the IMF said so.

"Dear beloved.
Am Rose Carlos from international monetary fund. me and my team
are in Africa for the past two weeks, I have gotten a vital information
concerning your money, contact me immediately so that i can hand you your
rightful
information about your money in Africa.

Remain Blessed
Rev.sister Rose Carlos"

Pyjamaface · 28/11/2017 14:13

I'd stay where I am but I'd buy next door for 1million (more then 3 times what it's worth cos the lady will need some persuading) and knock through to make 1 big beautiful house.

I'd also buy the house next to that for my sister because she's always wanted to live in it but it's rented out and the landlord is not maintaining it well so it looks sad and falling to bits.

I'd also buy the house over the road next to my parents for my friend. It's a 2 bed bungalow which would be perfect for her and my Dad would like another garden to potter about in as his is stuffed full.

I would buy a house for my other siblings/pay off mortgages and then do God knows what with the other 15 million

AnnPerkins · 28/11/2017 14:17

I would live in a small mews house in Central London. I've always wanted to.

And then I would spend weekends and long summer holidays in friends' country piles, ski chalets and villas on the Riviera.

In my head I'm David Niven.

astoundedgoat · 28/11/2017 14:17

Big Georgian house on Canonbury Square or similar (London), with pied a terre for my father near by.

Kids would have two floors to themselves to host ultra cool teen gatherings and I would have a light filled living room with three tall windows overlooking the square.

I have no interest in having any particular garden, it's more about having masses of light, tall ceilings, Georgian proportions and cool modern furniture and rugs.

Okkitokkiunga · 28/11/2017 14:17

DC's quite fancy this place - good for family pantomimes apparently. I really like it for other reasons www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-property/property-58124471.html?currencyCode=GBP

This one would do. I'd spend the rest on amazing holidays.

Ski4130 · 28/11/2017 14:24

I'd buy one property in Hawkes Bay, NZ, one where we live now in the UK and one in Fowey, where my Mum's from. We lived in Hawkes Bay for 4 years, and I'd live to have a base to go back to there, I also love where we live here in the UK so I'd buy a nice big place here, then the house in Fowey for my Mum and for us to stay in when we go down there.

liz70 · 28/11/2017 14:24

Oh dear, one simply can't find a castle on a Scottish island anywhere. Perhaps they couldn't persuade enough peasants to row the boats carrying the stone across. Sad

Never mind, this has its own loch!

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50858683.html

And such a snip! As well as being close by so we could visit family easily. Definitely one to consider.

CherryCokeFairy · 28/11/2017 14:25

I'd outright buy my house and a bungalow for my partners parents over the road so we could look after them in later life.
Get a conservatory
Have a holiday
Put aside a chunk for childrens university fee's and probably invest the rest in business or something.

SmashingInAthleticWear · 28/11/2017 14:26

A penthouse on the Thames in central London. Perhaps this one: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-62067226.html or this one: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-62684707.html

I have a saved "drawn area" along the river on Rightmove just in case I ever do win the Euromillions Blush

frogsoup · 28/11/2017 14:27

I LOVE the idea that somebody sitting in their living room arsing about on mumsnet thinks they can lecture anybody else about sorting out the world's problems Grin. You couldn't make up the irony bypass there.

DJBaggySmalls · 28/11/2017 14:27

Goldenbug If you cant trust a nun, who can you trust?

PickAChew · 28/11/2017 14:28

We'd stay up here in the Northeast and build ds1 his own fantasy bus depot which we'd fill with preserved vehicles.

Eolian · 28/11/2017 14:31

Wow, some people really do seem to get their kicks by trailing from thread to thread being offensive. Or maybe it's a cry for help ?

Anyway... I'd have a house where I am now (Cumbria) with stunning views of the Lakeland fells and a nice little town-house in North Oxford.

MoosicalDaisy · 28/11/2017 14:33

I'd tour the world and then decide, a water slide from my bedroom to a pool below is a must though.

Bekabeech · 28/11/2017 14:33

I like the Stud with the swimming pool. We'd go for a nice equestrian property with an indoor swimming pool (can be converted to solar heating). But we'd also need a pied a terre in London.
