I found out this evening that our Christmas meal has been booked.... it's £40pp + drinks Shock aibu to think that's excessive?

Skarossinkplunger · 27/11/2017 21:17

I think that’s rather cheap!

Nicknacky · 27/11/2017 21:18

That's about average I would say.

RoganJosh · 27/11/2017 21:18

It’s a lot for a work do!

YorkieDorkie · 27/11/2017 21:19

I suppose it depends on what it is? That's what ours cost last year and it was a great night with a full evening's entertainment then a disco in a lovely venue. Do you know what it entails?

foodfrax · 27/11/2017 21:19

It's a meal in a local restaurant

OP posts:
Skarossinkplunger · 27/11/2017 21:20

Wait, £40 per head for a Christmas meal, is considered expensive?!?!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 27/11/2017 21:20

Cheaper than ours; I don't think that's bad value. About average for a meal out somewhere nice?

Ameliablue · 27/11/2017 21:22

Surely it depends if lunch or dinner and where you live.

foodfrax · 27/11/2017 21:22

Well yes, it's been paid for in every other place I've worked.

OP posts:
bitofwhatyoufancy · 27/11/2017 21:23

Sounds about right, Christmas nights out always end up costing an arm and a leg.

Bambamber · 27/11/2017 21:24

Think it depends on your workplace and what you earn to be honest

YorkieDorkie · 27/11/2017 21:24

Such are the times we live in OP! Frugality is the new festive Grin I work in a school so you can imagine how many work dos have been paid for...

I'd say £40 is probably about average.

Skarossinkplunger · 27/11/2017 21:24

Ahhhhh, now I get your point. You’ve been spoiled before. Time to pull your big girl pants and pay for yourself.

foodfrax · 27/11/2017 21:25

Alright Ska, why are you being so rude?! I mean I think it's pretty expensive given a main in some comparable like Prezzo is about £13...

OP posts:
tatree · 27/11/2017 21:27

I’ve never paid for my meal? I thought it was the norm for the company to pay?!

DailyMaileatmyshit · 27/11/2017 21:31

tatree depends where you work. I've only ever worked in the voluntary and public sector. In the voluntary sector we got a £10 contribution towards it (each) but started to refuse that once we realised it was the boss (also not well paid) who was subsidizing it. In the public sector we pay for our own.

OP we get a say in where we go, we never pick anywhere more than £20 pp plus drinks! YANBU.

shakeyourcaboose · 27/11/2017 21:32

Is it mandatory / who is paying?

foodfrax · 27/11/2017 21:33

No it's not mandatory - can I Christmas meal be mandatory?!??! I won't go. It's not about not being able to afford it, just think it's a waste of money. It's a very niche sort of food.

OP posts:
Sayyouwill · 27/11/2017 21:39

We charge £42.95 as the early bird special and £49.95 as the standard price. Includes arrival prosecco, 3 course meal, DJ and disco and Christmas crap on tables. I'm way up north so the same hotel chain down south charges £60ish for the EBS.
Depending on where you are and what you're getting for that, it's not a bad price

shakeyourcaboose · 27/11/2017 21:40

Ex forces so have been to many mandatory things! It is sadly normal pricing but just make up an excuse and don't go!

foodfrax · 27/11/2017 21:41

Say, it's just a meal - a crappy set menu - in a bog standard restaurant. No drinks and nothing Christmassy about it.

OP posts:
Adamsmom · 27/11/2017 21:42

I look at it I actually like the people!

Jayfee · 27/11/2017 21:45

Sounds expensive, especially plus drinks unless you are a biggish earner and like socialising with your work colleagues.

beachygirl · 27/11/2017 21:46

Very niche? It's Mongolian guinea pig, isn't it?

ScreamingValenta · 27/11/2017 21:46

Is your workplace booking out the whole restaurant - that might add a premium to the cost?
