Have just come back from holiday, where I put on a bit of weight. I'm quite short (5 foot!), so every pound is showing :(

Any ideas on what to eat to lose some weight? I was thinking yogurt for breakfast, protein-based lunches and dinners... any other ideas would be great :)

Thanks!

Lots of veg, preferably with every meal- nice bit of bulk and nutrients without the kcal. And move more to burn more.

mistyegg · 26/11/2017 16:26

Avoid snacking between meals, sit down to eat and chew food properly, cut down/stop alcohol

Butterfr33 · 26/11/2017 16:34

Eat less and move more.

AnnabellaH · 26/11/2017 16:37

Dont eat anything beige apart from a chicken, or as it was intended.

I.e. just eat meats/fish and things that grow out the ground.

Tuna Salad
Chicken dinner
Steak and sweet potato
Mushroom omlette for breakfasts etc

Download my fitness Pal and log what you eat. It's an eye opener. You need to create a calorie deficit in order to lose the lbs.MFP uses how active you are to calculate this.

VietVet · 26/11/2017 16:39

Calorie counting is the only way. Anyone who says different is kidding themselves.

noeffingidea · 26/11/2017 16:41

Eat less and move more.
Works for me too. I lost over a stone in 3 months last year because I was too poor to buy very much food (and definitely no alcohol). I ate mostly things like bread, baked beans, pasta, potatoes, all the things people think are bad for you because they are carbs, and walked miles every day because I had no money for busfares. The weight fell off me without even thinking about it.

Mooncuplanding · 26/11/2017 16:42

Another vote for calorie counting with myfitnesspal

And prepare yourself for some hard work.

TammySwansonTwo · 26/11/2017 16:45

It's not necessarily as simple as counting calories since the body does not process calories from sugar / sweeteners in the same way as it does calories from other foods. There's a brilliant documentary called Fed Up partly about the effects of sugar and the over-simplification of calories in and out - that would be a good place to start!

sm40 · 26/11/2017 16:46

Weight watchers is the only thing that works for me!

BrioAmio · 26/11/2017 16:49

I stop buying chocolate and biscuits and buy fruit instead, things like melon and physalis. I do though make sure I have very good quality high cocoa % dark chocolate in the cupboard for emergency hits. A square of melted dark chocolate with passion fruit is divine! That and lots of water and the weight falls off.

yawning801 · 26/11/2017 16:49

Drink a ton of water before a meal, and give yourself smaller portions in direct relation to the amount of water.

(I'm not a nutritionist, this is something that worked for one of my friends!)

BrioAmio · 26/11/2017 16:51

Also, DON’T DIET. Do not deprive yourself, it doesn’t help at all. If you fancy something ‘rubbish’ to eat, eat it! Just in moderation.

munkynutts · 26/11/2017 16:54

Only getting the big mac meal instead of big mac meal + double cheeseburger

munkynutts · 26/11/2017 16:55

But seriously though - i did whole30 and even after just the first week i had lost weight

aquashiv · 26/11/2017 16:56

Run within a week you will be thinner.

ProseccoMamam · 26/11/2017 17:01

Make everything yourself, for me it's so much easier to eat healthy when I can see exactly what I'm eating

Don't snack unless it's fruit

Drink loads of water (start at 2 big bottles of water each day and you will gradually start re filling them without even noticing)

Goshthatwentwell · 26/11/2017 17:03

You really need to just eat less. Three meals no snacks what so ever. Helps to stop carbs/ sugar because if you have a tendency to eat to much, these are the things that encourage cravings and over eating.

That programme about naturally slim people last week showed that thin people just eat less really.

abbey44 · 26/11/2017 17:03

I've lost over two stones since the end of August by going low-carb. Loads on the internet about it and why it works, Diet Doctor has great recipe ideas.

Scrambled eggs or an omelette for breakfast would be better than yogurt and would keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Good luck.

RaininSummer · 26/11/2017 17:08

Another vote for low carb - eat high fat and some protein with loads of low carb veggies.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/11/2017 17:14

Eat protein and lift weights.

Avoid diet plans like the plague. Diet foods like Weight Watchers pizza is still absolute junk.

Bigcomfyknickers · 26/11/2017 17:14

Another devotee of low carb here. Also do a power walk: walk as fast as you can for as long as you can, preferably uphill, until you are out of breath. I have read that the calorie burn from this lasts a lot longer than the time it takes to do the walk.

DorisDangleberry · 26/11/2017 17:15

Eat tissues, smoke cigarettes and only drink neat vodka.

FitBitFanClub · 26/11/2017 17:17

I've lost nearly two stone in 3 months with Weight Watchers. Doesn't have to be "them" specifically, but the mantra, "eat less, move more," as people have said here, is undeniable.

FitBitFanClub · 26/11/2017 17:18

Drinking water boosts the metabolism, apparently.
