Have just come back from holiday, where I put on a bit of weight. I'm quite short (5 foot!), so every pound is showing :(

Any ideas on what to eat to lose some weight? I was thinking yogurt for breakfast, protein-based lunches and dinners... any other ideas would be great :)

Thanks!

Rockcakesrock - I weigh myself daily and allow 3lb each side of my ideal weight (to factor in the weight of a big poo or period bloating). If I go 4lb under I eat more, if I go over I'm careful for a few days. Much easier to lose a pound than the weight creep up and need to lose a stone...

I never go on.of my clothes fit as with.more lycra in clothes (especially jeans) you can gain over a stone and still 'fit' in your cloths.

Newlove I’m not having a go, but surely it isn’t really efficient to weigh yourself daily? You can fluctuate so much, once a week would be better?

rockcakesrock · 29/11/2017 10:24

I do the daily monitoring because it is easier to remember what you have eaten on a day, rather than over the week. It is a very personal thing, but I have just got into the habit of doing it. It has made me much more relaxed and more educated about what I eat.

A good example is that when I have been very busy and have not eaten, I don’t lose weight. I know my body goes into a conservation mode. For me that means that fasting diets won’t work.

Fasting diets do work, but if you’re accustomed to eating carbs, you either need to change over to a lower carb diet, or fast for longer initially. This is because the liver and muscles can store a certain amount of carbs as glycogen, and the body will use this as fuel initially if it is available, so this needs to be used up before the body will begin to burn fat as fuel.
When you eat a low carb high fat diet, the body is accustomed to using fat for fuel and is able to use stored body fat, which results in fat loss.

Track your calories. 1200 calories a day means I lose weight. To maintain weight I eat 1500.

I have lost 4 stones this year and gone from a 16/18 to a 10/12. I did Slim n Save. It is hard - 750 cals per day isn't much - but my goodness me it works and I feel like a different person. (A much smaller one Grin). It is about £40 a week and worth every penny. I'm going to go back on it after Christmas and get the last stone off.

When I feel I've put on weight I just go running lots. Get up mega super early before work and run for 1-2 hours every day for a few weeks. Weight goes and I don't have to worry about eating salad and counting calories.

I can quite easily put half a stone on in a week - that would mean dieting for a month. Weight cam vary which is why I allow 3lb on either side of my idea. If I am 4lb over ideal it's not an issue - much easier to use one pound than 7. My weight as a result is stable and I don't gain (or lose) huge amounts.

I weigh myself every morning too. It's so much easier to rein it back in that way.
