You can then ask them if they think you have a filthy kitchen or don't wash your hands.

Ropsleybunny · 26/11/2017 09:11

Shop bought cake is naff. Go for it OP, it’s lovely of you to take the trouble. 🍰

Finderscrispy · 26/11/2017 09:13

It’s just rude behaving like that, she’s effectively saying that she thinks you’ re dirty.
I would either make up another excuse not to eat, if I felt that way. Or save for later and feed it to the birds, no need to go round offending people.

Ifailed · 26/11/2017 09:13

If she's one of the people who obsesses about hygiene, when you bring out your cake remind her it's time for her hourly shower.

Kitsharrington · 26/11/2017 09:13

There are people who don't eat homemade food?? I've never heard of this before. How weird.

paperandpaint · 26/11/2017 09:14

Nobody has a right to cake! Take your homemade cake in with pride! I don't always like the cake that appears in the staff room (lemon poppy seed - yuk!) but my reaction is usually 'that's a lovely thought and a nice looking cake but I won't have a piece today'.

Goes without saying that if it's an allergy issue then I would definite;y provide an alternative, if somebody is being fussy definitely don't.

NataliaOsipova · 26/11/2017 09:14

There was a thread about people who don't eat homemade food recently

I didn't see this! Presumably they never eat in a cafe or a restaurant either then?

GlitterRollerSkate · 26/11/2017 09:16

Sorry I don't see the problem.. surely that means more careful you? Grin unhelpful

GlitterRollerSkate · 26/11/2017 09:16

Cake not careful!

SenoritaViva · 26/11/2017 09:17

I don't understand this need to accommodate everyone! Yes, faith/allergies etc but if someone brought a cake to work in a flavour that I didn't like I simply wouldn't choose to have any. It's a cake, not the end of the world!
I'm somewhat in the eeeuw camp but mostly for revolting shop bought items. Nevertheless I don't feel a need to broadcast it.
Do exactly as you wish, I'm sure it will be lovely.

And happy birthday!

SenoritaViva · 26/11/2017 09:18

Wouldn't? Would! The whole sentence is a bit rubbish to be honest. Sorry!

Softkitty2 · 26/11/2017 09:18

Some people always like to excuse other peoples behaviour with some sort of diagnosis or medical conditon.

Some people are just dicks.

Take in a homemade cake.

Ttbb · 26/11/2017 09:19

If no allergies YANBU. Homemade cakes are always better!

CountFosco · 26/11/2017 09:20

I'm the opposite, won't eat shop bought. I like my cake made with love Grin. Which is ironic because when I make cake for work it's more of a 'OhshitIpromisedtomakeacakeforMacmillianandnowit's9pmandI'venotstartedsothatwillbe3ingredientbrowniesagain' situation.

Starlight2345 · 26/11/2017 09:21

I would say unless it is her birthday or there are only 3 people in your office then go for homemade...

AmeliaFlashtart · 26/11/2017 09:21

Go for it, don't pander to her nonsense in anyway.

SilenceIsBroken · 26/11/2017 09:21

Who do these people think makes supermarket/shop cakes? Fairies? I've worked in the bakery section of a supermaket and also a restaurant and believe it or not, hygiene is not a given!

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/11/2017 09:22

YANBU. Shop bought cake isn't a patch on home made in almost all cases. Even expensive stuff from M&S/Waitrose is disappointing compared to home baking.

It's not fair to subject the majority to shit cake because one person has issues. They either need to get over themselves or miss out.

We have a 'Cake Club' at work and it's supposed to be home made cake but one or two people have been copping out with shop bought cake and it hardly gets touched, because people are used to nice cake.

Pearlsaringer · 26/11/2017 09:22

Your birthday, your choice of cake. Take a tub of grapes and maybe some clementines and you will have covered all bases.

theaveragewife · 26/11/2017 09:22

I will eat a cake if it looks like it tastes nice.

AuntLydia · 26/11/2017 09:22

Make your cake and then take in the, usually, sorry looking shop equivalent. A homemade Victoria Sponge and a Tesco Value version would work well. Everyone else can tuck into your delicious homemade cake while they have a slice of dry, unappealing shop bought!

Thewinedidit · 26/11/2017 09:23

I'm the person who wouldnt eat the homemade cake.

That is my issue though and not yours.

So I would take in your cake and would not get anything special for your colleague. It's their problem if they dont want to eat the cake.

timeisnotaline · 26/11/2017 09:24

I wouldn't bother bringing in anything for fusspot who thinks you're dirty. Homemade cakes are the only kind.

Nanny0gg · 26/11/2017 09:25

Whatever cake you take in, someone may not like it (I don't like coffee and walnut, for example) so they don't eat it.

Up to them.
