To find it SO bloody annoying when people review things they haven't actually used?!

Just that really.

Trying to buy Christmas presents and looking online at things that might be suitable. I look at a lot of reviews to try and cut down the possibility of buying something crap inadvertently but so many 'reviews' these days seem to consist of:

'Bought this for my [inset age relative ] Not opened it yet but arrived in the post very quickly'

Or

'Looks lovely but not actually tried it out yet'

Or

'Will make a lovely gift for [insert person] who really loves [inset item]

Gaaaah! So frustrating?!

Does the thing work? Is it good quality? Did your [insert age relative] actually like or do you just THINK they will? Did it break on the first use? Did they play with it once then throw it in a drawer for the rest of time? These are the questions I want answered!! Otherwise just don't bother posting a review in the first place if you have nothing useful to say about the actual bloody item Angry

People be stupid.

Sashkin · 23/11/2017 21:42

Yeah it’s really annoying. Particularly the reviews that just say “it arrived on time and in good condition” from fucking Amazon. I expect everything from Amazon to arrive on time and in good condition, it is a major online retailer. You don’t need to leave a review for an electric toothbrush to tell me it arrived on time.

SharkiraSharkira · 23/11/2017 21:46

Exactly Sashkin, I expect that items from Argos, Amazon, etc will ALL arrive in good condition and in a timely manner. That is just standard good customer service! Doesn't tell me a thing ABOUT whatever I'm trying to order though Confused

Yeah I don’t get it either.

It looks lovely in the box and arrived quick. Yes reviewer but what is the sodding product actually like!

Hoplittlerabbit · 23/11/2017 21:53

I do it sometimes because you get prompted by the seller for a review and the chance to win vouchers.
For example tesco emailed saying leave a review to be entered into a prize draw for £1K to spend in store... so I entered it. Item was a Christmas so not been opened, didn’t want to leave a dishonest review but wanted a chance to win vouchers

Hoplittlerabbit · 23/11/2017 21:54

*Christmas present I meant

ScreamingValenta · 23/11/2017 21:56

If you're talking about Amazon, I get the impression some people mistake the emails you get asking you to rate marketplace sellers for a request to review the product - I see quite a few 'one star' book reviews where the comment is that it was slow to arrive or in poor condition. It must be annoying for authors!

TheInimitableMrsFanshawe · 23/11/2017 21:57

The ones that get me are the reviews of preorders. This artist is amazing I love all their work and I know I’m going to love this too. So you haven’t even received the item yet, let alone had a chance to try it out.

RustyBear · 23/11/2017 21:58

I used to get emails from Amazon that specifically asked for feedback on the delivery speed/packaging - I don't think I ever replied to one and I haven't seen one recently, but that may be the reason for some of the 'reviews' that aren't really reviewing.

PashPash · 23/11/2017 22:00

My favourite shite reviews was for a local bike shop

‘We drove 100 miles especially to visit this shop, but it was closed. No stars’

So you downvoted it because you were too damn lazy/thick to phone before you set off? (It was part of a longer review, and yep, that is actually what they did )

SharkiraSharkira · 23/11/2017 22:06

Pash, I read a review of a restaurant once that downvoted it because of its location - surely you knew that before you went there?

It's just so annoying when you are trying to find out what the product is like and you can't because all the reviews just say that they've not used it yet.

Some will literally say, 'opened it and it looks great, will post an update when I've used it/so excited to try it out' (or something similar). Just write the reviews AFTER you've used it!!

The worst ones are “1 star because wrong item was sent”

Voice0fReason · 23/11/2017 22:17

Pointless reviews annoy me no end!
"Sent the wrong colour - 1 star"
"Ordered the wrong size"
"It doesn't come with the lead" (when the description makes that clear)

Sashkin · 24/11/2017 21:39

Just seen this one on the Mothercare website - one star because their local branch of Mothercare doesn’t have a car park! What does that tell me about the flipping product?

Amazon review requests are weird. I unsubscribed from them after they asked me to review a product I really liked. They only wanted to know if it arrived on time so refused to publish and when I went into my account to leave a fuller review in the ‘right’ place there was no option to. Because I had already reviewed it according to them Hmm

kungfupannda · 25/11/2017 19:53

Amazon reviews are bonkers. I just ordered something for DS3 for Christmas - all 4 and 5 star reviews, and one 1 star review because the reviewer didn't like the name of the company who made the product. Confused

There are some funny spoof reviews though. The reviews on this product are brilliant.

kungfupannda · 25/11/2017 19:54

Why? Why isn't it working?

kungfupannda · 25/11/2017 19:55

Oh for goodness sake. Stick a www on the front and it should work.

Believeitornot · 25/11/2017 19:56

Conversely the ones that complain about the delivery being delayed etc are equally as useless. Because they fail to tell me about the product Hmm

Oysterbabe · 25/11/2017 19:56

Yanbu. So pointless.

NoParticularPattern · 25/11/2017 19:59

The amazon questions ones are the ones that make me apoplectic with rage.

“Will his fit my XYZ?”
“Sorry I don’t know, I have a different brand.”

DONT ANSWER THE FUCKING IF YOU DONT KNOW. In what world is it acceptable to go out of your way to answer a question not directed at you with “I don’t know”?!?! Why?! Just fucking why?!
