to expect online shop to refund the difference now something on sale?

I ordered a top a few days ago.

It has not arrived and has now been reduced by 50%.

I have asked them to refund the difference rather than me send the one they have sent back and re order it?

They have said no so now i will just send it back and not re order it? Very annoying.

Thats not how it works or we'd all be phing shops and demaning 50 % back on previous purchases.

Ask for the full amount back, then re order it at the reducted price.

Why should they refund the difference?

At the time you got your item it was not in a sale and therefore you can’t have it for sale price!

That’s like me going to sainsburys and paying £1.25 for Pringles and the next week them being £1, that’s life I don’t go back and ask for the 25p diffrence. So not how life works

Why don't you just buy another one and return the one you ordered?

It is in the online shop’s interest to just refund the difference because if the op just returns and repurchases the same item at the cheaper price they incur additional costs.

They would save a few quid if they just did the refund of the difference.

Yep i have had this loads of times with other shops and normally they just refund the difference?

Otherwise i will just send it back and thats costs them more?

If i had been wearing it for the past week then obviously thats different and just tough luck but i haven't received this item yet?

And obviously i will send it back and re order it but the point is that also costs the shop money so why not do the obvious thing and refund the difference.

The only exception would be a sold out item or item with very low stock.

I won't even re order it to be honest i will just return it. I don't want to pay full price for something that is now half the price.

On this occasion it makes sense for them to just refund you and let the item currently on it's way to you to stay on its course. It makes business sense.

If you had already received the item and not worn it, if you wanted the item at the reduced price you would need to send it back and re-order.

And for people who think this is cheeky - why? Why not let a consumer get a bargain if the item is unused?

This is so annoying OP! I definitely know how you're feeling... I did a large amount of xmas shopping on ASOS last week and today they have 20% off everything

I hate this. I now buy most of my clothes online from one particular store that does exactly what you suggest. If they have anything on sale after you ordered it (and within a week of receipt), they refund the difference. It's one of the reasons I like them. They do it because people used to return and reorder, which cost them 2 extra lots of postage.

Do they still have your size in stock? If so it does seem a little bit pointless for you to have to go to the bother of returning the item that hasn't even arrived yet.

Although, I suppose they don't want to make it too easy for people to get refunds in situations like this. I imagine that lots of customers would ask for the 50% refund if it were as easy as an e-mail or phone call - but will never actually get around to physically returning the item & reordering it cheaper.

M&S will do this if you go to the store.

My mum and stepdad did this with a Christmas tree. Bought one for £80, the following week it was down to half price so they took it back and bought another one at half price. Loads of people must have been at it as the girl on the till actually asked them if they'd like to buy it back at half price.

Cancel the order that hasn't arrived and refuse delivery if it's already on its way to you, and re-order at sale price.

Or re-order at sale price now, wear the one that you paid full for when it arrives, and return the sale one with the full price invoice.

I think yabu. It wasn't in the sale when you got it. It's really cheeky asking them to refund you just because it's now gone in the sale.

I bought a coat last week, I've realised it's Black Friday tomorrow and it might be discounted. So I've kept the coat with the labels on, in the bag and if necessary, I will order the coat again tomorrow and send this one back.

Phase Eight are good at refunding the difference, as are Early Learning Centre.

I run an online store, I'd rather just issue the refund of the difference rather than deal with returns and re-orders.

Amazon have done this for me a couple of times in the past - this was a few years back mind so not sure if they still do it. It was very simple to do and there's no harm in asking.

I don't think they are being unreasonable to refuse but it would save them hassle in the long run.
