...there's just so many and I don't see how it saves any time or really what the point is? It's so confusing lol!
Dsis for example - why not just write sister?? Confused

These are not acronyms. I've just looked it up to find out the difference if anyone else is interested.

acronym
ˈakrənɪm/Submit
noun
plural noun: acronyms
an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word (e.g. ASCII, NASA ).

initialism
ɪˈnɪʃ(ə)lɪz(ə)m/Submit
noun
plural noun: initialisms
an abbreviation consisting of initial letters pronounced separately (e.g. BBC ).

Ilovetolurk I tend to agree with your example "bedroom arrangements with dsd13 dd12 dss11 ds10 etc" because it isn't following MN norms of capitalisation and brackets, and doesn't have commas separating items in a list.

It would be clearer if it followed the norms and was written: 'DSD (13), DD (12), DSS (11) and DS (10)'

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/11/2017 07:31

I think the "D" meaning "dear" format is just awful. It is so twee.

meditrina · 24/11/2017 07:34

It's an important characteristic of the specific language of MN.

If you find that twee and awful, then perhaps you need to be on a site more aligned to your ethos (perhaps one that never has tongue in cheek)

What is TAAT?

And what is a reverse??

Always wanted to ask but don't want to interrupt discussions by randomly asking!

meditrina · 24/11/2017 07:49

A TAAT is a 'thread about a thread' which is generally frowned on, bevcause the norm is to discuss things on the thread in question, not talk about it behind posters backs (metaphorically, IYSWIM) by starting up another thread.

A reverse is where you pose as the other side of the situation. These rarely work, because of course you don't really know what motivates the other side, so there has to be an element of invention. People call reverse when an OP is so staggering that people really don't want to believe someone can actually see the world like that.

Thankyou! Makes sense now 😁

Must say I am relatively new here (only been here a couple of months) and I have also always read STBXH as stupid twat bastard ex husband. Even knowing what it is now, every time I see it I still read it as that!

Many of these acronyms/ initialisms confuse me no end! I have to read a post at least twice before I understand.
