To hide everyone on my FB who does Elf on the Shelf?

《Disclaimer: It doesnt bother me one jot that people participate in the Elf on the Shelf bandwaggon》

But why share it every single fucking day on facebook? And everyone who does it, shares it. They are like vegans: Enthusiastic, vocal and absoloutley overbearing about it.

Do it
Dont do it
But honestly, no one outside your home cares what the elf got up to last night. Or how bloody marvellous a parent you are. Or how ingenious your arrangements are.

Someone just mentioned something on FB about "upping their elf game this year" and it all came FLOODING BACK.

Im just going to have to hide everyone til Jan. Like a sort of elf hibernation.

YANBU, I shall be doing the same.

DJBaggySmalls · 20/11/2017 20:37

Elf on a shelf = Kevin from Home Alone face.

wendz86 · 20/11/2017 20:38

I do it and don't post the pictures . I do appreciate seeing others pictures for ideas though.

MadForlt · 20/11/2017 20:39

I unfollowed a 'friend' (I use the term loosely) that every year dresses her children in santa hats and posts what the 'elves' are doing every day in December till the 25th.

Every year the eldest looks grumpier and grumpier. I'm going to make sure I have a quick look to see if that trend has continued...

JeReviens · 20/11/2017 20:41

Thank the good Lord my children are too old for this shizz and missed it completely. I actually don't even know what an Elf on the Shelf is and again I give thanks that not a single one of my FB friends posts this kind of schmaltz!

Nicpem1982 · 20/11/2017 20:42

Mad for it - that's hilarious I'd love to see that on my FB I'll be their friend

JoWithABow · 20/11/2017 20:42

Take it one step further Op, delete any of your friends who participate in Elf on the Shelf full stop. It doesn't matter if they post photos to FB about it, the fact that they subject their children to such a ridiculous farce means you are well within your rights to unfriend.

EB123 · 20/11/2017 20:42

YANBU bloody hate the whole thing, I hate the spying thing and the parents showing off. Nobody else cares!

Monr0e · 20/11/2017 20:43

Not everyone who does it shares it.

We've been doing our own version with a soft toy elf for 8 years now and never once shared a picture on Facebook.

If they start missing you off just hide them for the month. Hopefully by January they'll come back to their senses.

Monr0e · 20/11/2017 20:46

And for us it has nothing to do with spying on the kids and reporting on their behaviour.

We just do loads of stupid things like decorating the tree with underpants which the dc's seem to find hilarious.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 20/11/2017 20:47

YANBU, it’s forced fun of tedious “wacky” people who think that you are the grinch for not finding it funny.

It’s also so glaringly a money making gimmick which people are trying to make it a tradition.

BringMeTea · 20/11/2017 20:47

Thickos. Unfollow for sure.

Oblomov17 · 20/11/2017 20:47

YANBU
God, I hate it.

Nicpem1982 · 20/11/2017 20:47

Monr0e- ours is the same just festive silliness and ours bring gifts for dd on the run up to Xmas

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 20/11/2017 20:48

Aargh my grammar sucks.

Couldsleeptillnextyear · 20/11/2017 20:53

I'm fucking sick of the vegan bashing...totally don't ram it down anyone's throat...don't fucking make sweeping statements about groups of people

SingingTunelessly · 20/11/2017 20:54

My DCs are too old for this craze (thankfully) but I quite enjoy seeing it on FB. 😄

JonSnowsWife · 20/11/2017 20:58

YNBU.

But then all those sort of parents who I can't unfriend without causing shit are already anyway.

MrsOverTheRoad · 20/11/2017 20:59

Elves, their dinner, their new makeup, their latest handicrafts...YANBU!

notangelinajolie · 20/11/2017 21:07

DD16 bought me one. Over the past few weeks in the spirit of elf on the shelf I've moved him to various locations in the house whilst I've also been doing my utmost best to hide him where nobody can see the bugger. He is currently behind the curtains in the box room. I detest any kind of US tack and so he will remain hidden for the duration.

LillianGish · 20/11/2017 21:16

OMG - this has totally passed me by. My kids are teens now and it was never a thing when they were little. It sounds like the equivalent of those bears kids bring home from school and you have record what they did at the weekend - except you have to do it for the whole of Advent and these people are enjoying it if they record it on FB. Can’t see how it’s showing off - it just sounds excruciating. Has anyone noticed how FB has replaced those hilarious round-robin letters people used to send? Except now it’s year- round boasting instead of a quick splurge for Christmas?

Bigfoot1 · 20/11/2017 21:21

OMG .... what is this thing? Can someone explain?

Rollmopsrule · 20/11/2017 21:21

YANBU. Elf ‘antics’ bore me shitless.
