To ask what time your DC go to bed?

Butttons · 19/11/2017 07:52

Chatting to friends last night. They put their DC (6 and 4) to bed at 6:30pm. Ours (4 and 2) go to bed at closer to 8. DH and I both commute to work so collect from after school club at 6, take home, feed, bathe story etc. No way can we do it any quicker and besides, I like to have a little bit of time with them in the evenings (I don't get home until almost 7) as well as getting them up and out in the mornings. They wake up around 6:45/7am.

AIBU to ask if we're doing ours a disservice and "they'll be too tired to learn properly " (no one has said this btw)

My two are 4 and 6 both are usually in bed at 7.00 and 7.30 respectively and sleep until 7.00 each morning. Towards the end of the school week they tend to be much more tired and will sometimes ask to go to bed earlier. If they're up late for a special occasion they need an earlier night the next day - they both are very active children who struggle on less than 12 hours sleep.

Almost 16mo goes to sleep at 7.30pm and wakes at 6.30am which suits us during the week as dh leaves at 7.20am for Work. He still has 2 naps totalling 3 hours during the day. Sounds like they’re having 11 hours sleep at night which is ok as long as your 2yo still naps.

happymumof4crazykids · 19/11/2017 16:17

13 and 11 y/o 9pm school nights later on weekend 2 and 3 y/o in bed by 7 we all get up around 7

deptfordgirl · 19/11/2017 16:18

My ds is 2 and goes to bed at 7pm. I love my evenings although usually fall asleep by 9!

Bubblebubblepop · 19/11/2017 16:21

Quite late, 8-8.30. They're under 5.

tinypop4 · 19/11/2017 16:22

DS is only 2 so by 7.30. DD is 5 she has to go by 8 on a school night. At the weekend she's allowed to stay up if we're going out or if we haven't seen her much over the week. They both get up at 7ish

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 19/11/2017 16:24

Always 8pm, the rule is that's when you go to your bedroom, you can take a book or paper & pens into bed, but no getting in & out of bed making noise.

There are exceptions, say there's a football game & DC have been good they might be allowed up till 9 at weekend. Or if there's a party and they get home late.

Both have started sleeping in at weekends which is bliss. Usually come 7am the whole house would be awake.

I think 8pm is a sensible time as themes change on TV. You don't want any awkward moments. Although they stayed up to watch that nursery programme and thought it was brilliant with Ava, the little girl scared of the bunnies. My eldest said he could cuddle her all day she's so cute. It's true what they say children don't see differences, neither commented on the Downs. She was so bright and bubbly. Half expected the boys who polished off the strawberries to be sick. The youngest said that's very naughty isn't it Mummy.

ineedwine99 · 19/11/2017 16:25

15m old, bed time is 7pm and has been since a week old, she tends to drop off bu 7:15-7:30 and sleeps through til 7-7:30am.
We get in from picking her up from Nursery about 5:45 so still have time to play/snuggle. I imagine it will get a bit later as she gets older

Pinkvoid · 19/11/2017 16:25

They went to bed at 6:30 until the eldest started school then it was too early to fit everything in before then so extended to 7:30. Now they’re 5, 6 and 7 it’s about 8pm.

esk1mo · 19/11/2017 16:25

my neighbours have a 3 and 6 or 7 year old and they are giggling, screaming, crying, laughing etc until 11pm, sometimes later on weekends Shock

the kitchen/livingroom shares a wall with my bedroom, so its not like they’re doing it in their bedrooms either

becotide · 19/11/2017 16:26

11 and 14

8.30 in the week
10 at the weekend

I don't enforce lights out but I do enforce no tech

We are a family that do not do well on short sleep, myself included - sometimes it's all I can do to lock the door before following them up the stairs!

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 19/11/2017 16:28

DD's aged 7 & 5, both go to sleep by 7-7.30 latest, up at about 7am.

If very tired or midwinter then often asleep by 6.30. In midsummer then it can be a struggle before 8. They seem to be very sensitive to light.

DS (about to turn 2) is quite similar. Sleeps by 6-6.30pm, awake 6-6.30am, most of the time has a 1-2 hour nap (preferably in the morning).

ProseccoMamam · 19/11/2017 16:28

8pm. They’re 1&7. I don’t know/haven’t come across anyone who puts their kids to bed at 6pm. That’s fucking ridiculous there is no need for a child to be in bed at tea time.

Sirzy · 19/11/2017 16:30

Ds is autistic and a rubbish sleeper. Has melatonin at 6pm which means he is asleep for 8pm awake between 4 and 5 for the day and often a few times jnbetween.

littlemisspuddington · 19/11/2017 16:32

Supposed to be 7pm on the dot (ds is 5) but is sliding towards 7.30pm now for the reasons you gave.

TinyLittleFeet · 19/11/2017 16:36

2 year old DD goes to bed at 7.30pm. On 3 days a week she's not collected from Nursery until 5pm and we walk there and back so by the time we're home there's just enough time for a snack (she has 3 meals at Nursery) and a cup of milk, Bath, In the Night Garden, pyjamas, medicine, teeth, story and bed (have to start bedtime routine at 6.30pm to fit it all in so she has her snack at 6pm when we get in through the door).

scrabble1 · 19/11/2017 16:37

11 year old at 8.00

FlowerPotMum · 19/11/2017 16:44

9 & 12.. bed at 8.30 lights out at 9. Up at 6.30 no probs. Elder one choses to go up at the same time ( and possibly reads under her covers when younger one is asleep!).

Mamabear14 · 19/11/2017 16:46

Almost 13 yr old 9.30 weeknights later weekends.
11yr old 9pm weeknights later weekends. Although he has asd and adhd a d is now taking risperidone which is making him sleepy so sometimes earlier.
2yr old 7pm every night unless we are out. She is a nightmare out of her routine!

Shhhsleeping · 19/11/2017 16:46

Ds9 7.30 weekdays and 8pm weekends
Dd6 6.30 weekdays and 7pm weekends. Both are up at 6am to have breakfast with their dad before work. They are both asleep within 10 minutes

SparklingSnowfall · 19/11/2017 16:48

Lights out at 8 for 4 & 6 year old here

booellesmum · 19/11/2017 16:54

It very much depends on the individual child. When DD1 was pre school she went to bed around 10.30ish. 8.30 bed time once started school but don't think she's ever gone to sleep before 10.30. She's now 16, no effect on schoolwork, went to Grammar school, 11 gcse's( 6 at A*)
DD2 has always gone earlier as needed more sleep. Generally went to sleep about 8.30 in primary, now shes 13 goes up at 10.15.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 19/11/2017 16:57

My 5 and 10 year olds go to their rooms between 7-8 every night. They read and sing to themselves for as long as they feel the need.

The teen goes when she feels like it, usually between 9-10:30.

Firenight · 19/11/2017 16:58

3 yo - 7.30ish

8 yo - 8.30-9.00 usually. He’s never needed much sleep though.

catsarenice · 19/11/2017 17:05

DS 18mths around 7pm, DD aged 10 supposedly at 8 although she'll try every trick in the book to go later!!!
