To ask what time your DC go to bed?

Butttons · 19/11/2017 07:52

Chatting to friends last night. They put their DC (6 and 4) to bed at 6:30pm. Ours (4 and 2) go to bed at closer to 8. DH and I both commute to work so collect from after school club at 6, take home, feed, bathe story etc. No way can we do it any quicker and besides, I like to have a little bit of time with them in the evenings (I don't get home until almost 7) as well as getting them up and out in the mornings. They wake up around 6:45/7am.

AIBU to ask if we're doing ours a disservice and "they'll be too tired to learn properly " (no one has said this btw)

Dd1 16 and dd2 13 usually watch a bit of tv in their room before bed. They go to sleep when they are tired so could be any time between 9pm and midnight, later on the weekends. They get up for school at 6.30am as soon as their alarms go off with no problems.

Ds is 10 he usually goes up to bed at about 9.45pm. He will either go straight to sleep or watch 20 minutes of tv before sleep. He is on a phased return to school and only goes for two hours in the afternoons at the moment. He's up by about 7am. Weekends he goes to bed a bit later and gets up a bit later.

10mth old goes between 6pm and
4yr old goes 7.
11yr old 8.30-9pm
13yr old 9.30-10pm

roofio87 · 19/11/2017 08:51

My 4yo goes to bed about 6 45 so he's asleep for 7. That's only really because he will wake at 6am at the latest regardless and really needs 11 hours. If he slept in till 7am, then an 8pm bedtime would be fine!

MrsPringles · 19/11/2017 09:02

Ds is 3,
He goes to bed anywhere between 6.30-7.30 dependent on how tired he is

He will happily have a 2/3 hour nap, still go down at 7 and sleep through to 6.30/7

mrsdiddlydoo · 19/11/2017 09:04

Aim to have lights off for ds4 and & dd2 by 6.45pm. Anything before 7 is considered a win. They stay in bed in the morning until their gro clock says they can get up at 7am

RainyDayBear · 19/11/2017 09:13

Nearly two year old DD goes to bed at 7:30pm

PoppyLivesOn · 19/11/2017 09:20

8 year old is in bed at 8pm but can read until lights out until 8.15pm

7 year old’s bedtime is 7.30pm with lights out at 7.45 but often just goes straight to sleep rather than read.

Mia1415 · 19/11/2017 09:41

My son is 4 and is in bed by 6.45-7pm. I don’t pick him up from his Childminder until 6pm so unfortunately get very little time with him. He needs his sleep though and is a nightmare if he gets too tried

operaha · 19/11/2017 09:46

Ds 12 - 9pm, reads until half past. Gets up at 6, he's never ever able to lie in Confused
Ds 17 v near 18 can be 8pm can be 4am, whenever he's tired.

Mammyloveswine · 19/11/2017 09:57

My 22 month goes to bed around 6pm and wakes around 7.. he is very active in the day and is dropping his nap so needs sleep. I currently work 4 mornings and only one long day when I collect him at 5 instead of 1... we spend our afternoon's together so this works really well for us. It's all about what works for you and your family.

Katyb1310 · 19/11/2017 10:34

Our 7 year old is generally in bed for 8, 7.30 if she's really tired, sometimes 8.30 if she's had activities in the evening and still needs a hairwash etc

oblada · 19/11/2017 10:46

All mine go between 7 and 8pm, asleep by 8pm usually, they are 8months, 3.5yrs and 6 yrs old. Works for us :)

LeoTimmyandVi · 19/11/2017 10:48

I have a 12.5 year old and 11 year old. They go upatairs between 9.00-9.30pm and then read until they are tired. Both up no probs in the morning.

littlepeas · 19/11/2017 10:53

6 and 8 year olds go at 8pm - 9 year old usually gets into bed at the same time, but reads for an hour. We get up at 6.30am on school days.

LuchiMangsho · 19/11/2017 10:57

6 year old is in bed at 6:30. Baby who is 10 months is asleep by 6:45. Lights out for 6 year old at 7 although he is frequently asleep earlier. Awake at 6:45. So we aim for 12 hours. I am home by 4:30 and work at night so the bedtime works for all of us.

pastabakewithcheese · 19/11/2017 11:28

Oh...this makes me feel a bit off with my timings! My DD goes sleep at 9/9.30 and she’s 2. But she has a 1.5/2hour nap in the day so I wonder if everyone else’s kids don’t have the nap or don’t have a long nap? She almost always wakes at 7.30 on a work day for me or 8.30 on a weekend

Shnazzyshot · 19/11/2017 11:34

Mine are 4 and 6 and go to bed at 7. They wake up between 6.30-7am no matter what time they go to bed so we've always just kept their bed time at 7. Most people think I'm horrible for not letting them stay up at weekends or school holidays but I like to keep their routine.

SciFiFan2015 · 19/11/2017 12:26

7 year old and 11 year old both go to bed at 8pm most nights. They each have a night with an activity that finishes later and weekends/holidays are always more relaxed.
Both get up about 7am. Oldest needs more sleep than youngest.

BackBoiler · 19/11/2017 12:33

When they are tired they are 3, 5 and 9. They all like to go up when they are tired. The little two ask to go up or we ask them when they are sleepy (generally 8pm latest) and then sometimes we might say to eldest oh remember you have X tomorrow and he will go up.

We found relaxed works best for us

LuchiMangsho · 19/11/2017 13:19

The baby still naps in the day and goes down at 6:30. At 2, DS was on a nap every other day and was asleep by 8:30 on nap days and 7 on non nap days. The waking up at 8:30 is fine for now but you can't do that once they are in school so for us, bedtime is dictated by the fact that we leave the house at 8 am.

User452734838 · 19/11/2017 14:00

6 yr old. 8pm

BackBoiler · 19/11/2017 15:36

Im giggling at the fact that someone has commented on their nearly 18yo bedtime........

SpottyGecko · 19/11/2017 15:43

Ds 5 and dd 1 go to bed between 7 and 730

limon · 19/11/2017 15:46

Dd aged nearly six goes to sleep around 8pm. All kids are different and she was never an early to bed child even when small.

EggysMom · 19/11/2017 15:50

Autistic 8yo, still has the same routine as when younger because he likes it that way! Bedtime between 6;30&7, lights go off at 8. Sometimes he's asleep before 8, sometimes not until 9, depends on what he's been doing that day.
