"Armpit fat" isn't normal over bra?

Just been to Bravissimo for a long overdue bra fitting and buying session. They don't measure you, just bring out bras to try based on whatever you went in wearing ( in my case a long past its best 36B from Debenhams). She decided I was a 34dd.
Every bra brought to me gave me varying degrees of fat, including double fat with its own cleavage, above the sides, in front of my arm pits. The fitter just said "yeah, some people get that, you just have to choose the best".
So I left with nothing, except embarrassment, and annoyance that I'll have to find somewhere else to put myself through it again.
I'm a size 10-12, and whilst not skinny not so large that I should be accepting armpit boobs above my bra surely??
Any advice anybody? Please? Dreading going anywhere else now.

I felt fat for ages, I used to cry coming home cos it felt so uncomfy but it’s only because I wasn’t used to anything touching me so neatly in that area. It only took a few weeks to get used to.

You will feel like you have a New figure when you get used to it. If you were anything like me I couldn’t wear certain tops as I didn’t have enough support and would fall out. Also my straps would fall down and you’d constantly see them (I thought for years that I had sloping shoulders 😂)

You will also get very pissed off that bras are so dear, I recommend eBay and every Debenhams/John Lewis sale. If you don’t mind what the bra looks like and if you have a matching set then you can pick up bras for £6 in the sale.

I loved bra fitting, I luckily worked for a company that didn’t care about the sale as long as you sold a bra that fit which often meant sending a client to another shop as we didn’t do anything smaller than 30 back. I think o still have the passion!

Maybe because 36 would be above the size guide measurement for that dress size. I wear a 36 back bra at size 20/22 so i highly doubt someone who is a smaller dress size than me would measure the same under their bust

thegamblersmrs · 19/11/2017 16:49

Amiciss, wear whatever size you want. Anyone can wear any size. It’s not to say it will give you the right support but you can still wear it.

If you are a true size 10-12 and not a primark 10-12 then I suspect that a 36 back bra is far too big and won’t fit right but you wear whatever keeps you happy.

treaclesoda · 19/11/2017 17:12

You can wear any size of bra you want, it doesn't matter to anyone but the person wearing it.

But it's really insulting to talk about vanity sizing with regards to small back sizes. These are actual inches. Unless the size of an inch on a tape measure has been vanity sized as well, then the 32 inches that I measure around my ribs is exactly the same size as the 32 inches my mother measured in the 1950s.

I'm a size 14 and have never worn anything bigger than a 32, and I even have one bra that is a 30. I stupidly tried a 34 because it gave me more choice of styles but it rides up and causes the most awful pain where the wires dig in.

I honestly don't understand how it's possible to measure 38 under the bust and be a size 10, since a size 10 is meant to be something like a 34 bust measurement, so that means you'd be bigger around the ribs than around the bust, so I can't quite understand how that would work.

However, if someone wants to wear a size 38, then that's up to them.

Anyone else finding this thread a bit anti feminist?
I mentioned upthread that I was measured as 32F at bravissamo.
My breasts were upright, apart and "smart". But I could hardly breathe and the discomfort was awful.
Day to day I wear inexpensive non wired cotton bras. I wear a 36D size , no overhang, no bulging out the top.
The uplift isn't great but I have the comfort and support I need.

thegamblersmrs · 19/11/2017 17:36

That’s why you should wear what works for you, if you prefer comfort then that’s what you go for

For me I was delighted to get my true fit and it change my boobs. They were very saggy and the skin was pulling. It’s not now. A few weeks of discomfort for a better shape worked well for me.

It’s not for everyone but if we didn’t want to be fitted to the ‘right’ bra we wouldn’t go to a bra fitter. You’d just pick a couple off the rack and decide what you prefer. If you go to be fitted then I’d say you want advice. Only my opinion.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2017 17:39

Not remotely anti feminist.

I have big boobs. If I wear non wires bras I have a monoboob which gives me massive cleavage which is sweaty and uncomfortable. If I wear a bigger back size then the weight of my breasts give me neck and shoulder pain.

I need to wear a bra which fits and lifts as they're designed to. If you don't, great, crack on. But my clothing needs and choices are not anti feminist

Lweji · 19/11/2017 18:14

"Comfortable" bras with no support around the ribcage allow boobs to bounce around, and put pressure on shoulders and the back. Thus, ultimately not comfortable.
They shouldn't be so tight you can't breathe, but if you can't feel anything around the ribcage and you have heavy or large breasts, then you might as well wear nothing.

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:21

Ok I’m getting my baps out! I tried on 18 bras today. 18! And I had armpit fat with every one of them Hmm

I’m usually a 36/38C. My actual measurements using the bend over method is 33” / 39” making me a 34DD yes?

This is a 34DD. Check out the armpit flab......

"Armpit fat" isn't normal over bra?
PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:23

Next, a 32DD.

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 18:25

Those cups are far too small. You need a bigger cup to fit more of the breast tissue/side bits in

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:25

And this one which was the comfiest is a 34E! E! Still a lot of pitflab though....

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 18:27

Plus if you go down a back size you would go up a cup size to maintain cup volume as 32DD has a smaller cup size than 34DD. To get the same cup volume in the smaller size you would need a 32E. And you may need a bigger cup size than that too

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:27

And I’m so sorry about my shite selfie method! I’m old school and used to holding an actual camera Smile

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 18:28

Did you scoop in from the side of the cup to get as much of the excess into the cup as some of that is breast tissue? Sister size of 34E would be 32F

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 18:30

Did the central gore sit against your skin between your breasts? If not then that also suggests you need a bigger cup

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:30

Thanks for your input Pixie. You really think it’s cup size then? My daughter just couldn’t believe it when she saw I actually spilled out the front of a couple of the DDs!

MagicMoneyTree · 19/11/2017 18:30

Yes, after seeing the 34E I would say you need to try going up another cup size. I reckon you found it the comfiest because it’s the closest you got to a good fit. It looks much better than the first pic.

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:32

Can’t remember about the centre bit Pixie but my poor boobies have never been yanked about as much they were today! I couldn’t hail them any further forward.

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 18:34

I was measured as 40C in M&S years ago but feel much comfier in the 36GG that I measured for myself.

PurpleNurple69 · 19/11/2017 18:37

OMG! And F cup? I’m delighted Grin

I’m so sorry PigFlewPast, I’ve hogged your thread but thank you for starting it!

PickAChew · 19/11/2017 18:39

Definitely not anti-feminist at all. I couldn't tolerate underwired bras pre-intervention because they dug in in delicate places and still looked as crap as a soft cup bra. Now I'm actually comfortable in my 32GG or thereabouts. Most of the bras I have, I barely know are there.

BoofayTheOompaLoompaSlayer · 19/11/2017 18:44

Sorry, haven’t rtft but I just wanted to say that I do not like Bravissimo one bit. Their idea of sizing people is useless and they suggest bras that are way too tight.
I went there once to find a bra for my wedding. After a disastrous 30 minutes I walked out empty handed. Ended up buying a wonderbra.
No, armpit fat is not a thing most should have!

harajukubabe · 19/11/2017 18:46

Try Freya or panache. These two brands fit me the best and I don’t buy anything else now
