Neighbours bullying us (parking)

Moved in two months ago. On a Sunday afternoon I found someone had parked on my driveway next to my car, under the private parking sign. My partner came home and couldn't get on the drive. I wrote a note which was ignored so dp went and found him and he moved it.
Fast forward a month later. The same house different car has parked just the front wheels of their car on our driveway. This has went on for a week.
Last night I drove nose in so he didn't do it and he's now blocked my car in and still parked on the drive.
I have work this morning.
Dp is going round to chat to him later.
I'm heart broken. I feel totally bullied by these ignorant twats and we have just moved in. Trying to get the house lovely and do it up and we have these twats making life a misery.
Can I go to the police about this if it doesn't stop?
He's clearly doing it on purpose. There are other spaces to use and they have their own driveway too.
Included pic of the driveway when it's clear

From the pictures, it appears that op can get in and out of her drive from two sides so technically not blocking in. Idk the law on this one though, is that perhaps why she isn’t responding FlowerPot?

Not all streets have pavements and dropped kerbs. My parent's road is unadopted there are no pavements just 8 houses in a cul de sac with driveways that are level to the road.

OP's driveway is an unusual lay out admittedly; it isn't common to access a driveway from two different sides like that. From now on I'd be tempted to park your car at the same angle as you neighbour has but on your driveway and as close to the road as possible

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/11/2017 16:49

If you park your cars on both edges of your driveway with the wheels just touching the road, they won’t be able to block you in on either side as you’ll be taking up the road. A bit of an odd thing to do, I know.

wowfudge · 19/11/2017 16:49

monkey - for starters loads of people have suggested bollards but if they prevent the NDN accessing their property then they are a non-starter. If CFN won't stop parking on the OP's property or in a way that blocks her in, then she needs to find a solution that stops him causing her a problem.

Unimaginative your diagram is really helpful. I now understand the photo the OP posted as I couldn't figure it out before. I can't help but think that reversing both cars onto the parking area is key, but if you can't put some sort of barrier/chain/bollard across the bottom end nearest the road, that won't be a solution to every CF parking escapade. Double yellows or an h mark could work though.

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 19/11/2017 16:56

Wow it is quite terrifying that you have been able to find her house etc.

ItsNachoCheese · 19/11/2017 16:58

Op posted a picture upthread that had google coordinates of her house

monkeywithacowface · 19/11/2017 17:00

Eh? Where did I suggest bollards that prevent NDN from accessing their own property?

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 19/11/2017 17:04

ItsNachoCheese

Yes I see that now, she has essentially doxed herself, no?

monkey I never said you suggested bollards if you re-read my post at 16.49, but plenty of others have done. I was responding to your comment stating the OP didn't want a legal ruling when I and others were asking for a detailed diagram in order to understand things properly.

monkeywithacowface · 19/11/2017 17:28

Take a chill pill Wowfudge! Over invested much? Perhaps be clear in future which comments you are responding to. You could add a diagram perhaps? Avoid the confusion Smile

LIZS · 19/11/2017 17:33

I think the official dropped kern is the side directly facing the opposite drive, not the part on the angle. If op drove to the end and reversed back onto her drive with her wheels on the edge, she wouldn't be blocked in by ndn parking on that corner ( not that he should due to sight lines), nor would he be able to overhang a wheel onto their land.

notapizzaeater · 19/11/2017 17:39

Can you speak to your local community police officer to get them to speak to the nDN

monkey sounds like you need to take your own advice. So what if someone else would find a diagram helpful? What's it to you, seeing as you are so not over-invested?

diddl · 19/11/2017 18:18

It looks as if the cars should park sideways on & use the left side as the entrance.

I'm sure if it were that simple though that's what Op would be doing!

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 19/11/2017 18:33

Good luck OP.

FeistyColl · 19/11/2017 19:34

Wow UnimaginativeUser - fantastic diagram! It makes sense now. I have no idea how the 'dropped kerb' rule would apply in this situation. Does it apply at all?

I wouldn't suggest that the OP or her DP go round all guns blazing because it's not simple. Doesn't mean that neighbour isn't being a CF though, because OP has shown his wheels actually on her parking area, so he's definitely being unreasonable. But I don't know if OP has the right to expect that no cars are able to park on the road all the way round her parking area. Might take a bit of negotiating?

Good luck indeed.

Whereisthegin1978 · 19/11/2017 19:52

I may have missed this in the other replies but is the neighbours house his or housing association/council? If it is you could contact them and complain about the tenant?

yowerohotesies · 19/11/2017 21:50

Ah this is beginning to make sense if unimaginativeuser's diagram is accurate.

I think the issue is that your "driveway" simply looks too similar to public land and needs a facelift.

The hedge between your front garden and your parking area should definitely go, and ideally repartition the land to give two more regular/rectangular spaces ideally repaved with a different tone of surface than the surrounding road so that it looks more clearly like private property.

Ikanon · 19/11/2017 21:51

Presumably because you can access your driveway from 2 sides the neighbour thinks it's no skin off your nose of he parks where he parks because you can get out another way. That said, it's your driveway and he doesn't get to choose how you use it. He's creating an extra parking space close to his house at the expense of you accessing your driveway however you like. He's definitely in the wrong of course but he probably thinks he's being clever creating a space out of nothing but actually should respect your legal right to do what you like to access your driveway.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 19/11/2017 22:09

FFS. Way to scare off the OP!

The ariel view does make it all much clearer but it might have been an idea to check the OP was OK about it first!

Hopefully she doesn't mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't come back.

Shen0102 · 19/11/2017 22:14

If we all remember our driving theory test "blocking a drive way is not allowed" so you could actually call the police or the council to give a warning. You could take a picture with their number plate as evidence.

FlowerPot1234 · 19/11/2017 22:20

Shen0102 OP has been told this repeatedly, and that it's illegal. She just ignores anyone who tells her this. Don't know why.
