I know I am being unreasonable but I really do dislike it and can't quite articulate why.
Prefer to choose my charities rather than have it thrust down my throat I suppose.
Anyone else?

The kids doing the Rickshaw Challenge are fab. I've donated at work today but we're not watching it.

TheFirstMrsDV · 17/11/2017 20:55

I find all this 'I have a local charity I give to' and 'I only give to my chosen charity' stuff a bit odd.
If that local/chosen charity works with children the chances are they get funding from CIN.

The bleating about big fundraisers always smacks of virtue signalling to me and snobbery. I am far too sophisticated to be drawn in by garish fundraising and sob stories so I only give to charities people like you haven't heard of Hmm

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 17/11/2017 20:56

DS1 was a beneficiary of CIN when he was a child. I can't say much against it.

Sahara123 · 17/11/2017 20:57

Thank you Lilly x

Flumplet · 17/11/2017 20:59

I find the minimum £10 text donation pretty galling tbh. There are lots of people who would donate £5 but not £10. It’s all a bit Bono for me.

MrsJayy · 17/11/2017 21:00

I am enjoying it those Rickshaw kids are amazing

MrsJayy · 17/11/2017 21:02

I think there is a min £5 donation?

cathyclown · 17/11/2017 21:04

I don't live in the UK now. I have a 10 yr old cerebral palsy asd nephew, he has had every assistance possible from the country I am living in.

Early intervention, physio, assessments, SNA help at mainstream school, swimming therapy, other therapies, he is doing great the lovely kid he is. All taxpayer funded.

I know it is different in every country, don't get me wrong, but basic needs should be catered for through taxation.

The extras are great. But not the essentials. That's all I'm saying.

Flumplet · 17/11/2017 21:04

I have only seen text numbers for donating £10 or £20 there doesn’t seem to be a text number for donating other amounts.

Sahara123 · 17/11/2017 21:05

Yup online donation whatever you chose

Bubblebubblepop · 17/11/2017 21:07

Cathy I am not really sure on what you think in that list isn't covered by the welfare state here?

ijustwannadance · 17/11/2017 21:08

I only watch the DIY SOS programme and donate. Laat year it was a £5 text donation.
This year they wanted £5, £10 or £20.

Sahara123 · 17/11/2017 21:10

Yes but it’s an ongoing battle here and don’t even get me started on when she became an adult....

ScaryMonstersAndSuoerCreeps · 17/11/2017 21:16

DONATIONS

Bubblebubblepop · 17/11/2017 21:17

Oh for goodness sake who cares? £5 is nothing anyway. Anyone who can't afford shouldn't be donating

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 17/11/2017 21:18

Mark Curry was just a worthy winner of the Strictly CIN dance off.

sickandtiredofbeing · 17/11/2017 21:19

DeloresJane I love the sound of that. So many kids and adults with ASD are not getting the help they need. I read it can take 2 years for a child with suspected autism to get a diagnosis even. That shocked and saddened me, reading that. And I have an adult friend going through the asessment process too- it is very gruelling and not much help out there.

sickandtiredofbeing · 17/11/2017 21:20

Bubblebubble Many things in theory are covered by the welfare state but the reality and practice is that there is not enough support to go round an underfunded system with so many suffering. Sad

CIN don't fund anything that there is a legal obligation on a state body to provide.

In my experience they mostly fund the bits and pieces that should be an obligation, but aren't.

It may seem that they now fund things that were an obligation, but that's mostly because all and any extras have been completely slashed from budgets everywhere else and state bodies can now barely fund their obligations.

Sahara123 · 17/11/2017 21:27

Thank you. Have pretty much only lurked before but I guess this has hit a raw nerve tonight. I know it would be wonderful if the state could provide more but as I said there is never enough money to go round and I for one really appreciate anyone who feels that they are able to help

cathyclown · 17/11/2017 21:29

@Bubble,

I am so happy to hear that everything possible is being done to cater for every individual's needs in UK.

I don't get that feeling sometimes from some of the posts on here. Particularly in relation to mental health and ASD. And getting a GP appointment also. That is mad. But that is your system.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 17/11/2017 21:34

DS1 got money to buy things that would help with his illness, that was mostly things to eat, they gave us £100.

sickandtiredofbeing · 17/11/2017 21:38

EdmundCleverClogs Sorry to hear of your experiences. I went through abuse as a child and am, battling relative poverty and disability . I hate when rich powerful people do the whole "it doesn't matter how little you have they need it more" schtick. It is an arrogant and presumptuous thing for them to say.

sickandtiredofbeing · 17/11/2017 21:43

cathyclown I know. What Bubble said certainly hasn't been my lived experience of MH and other disability care either.
