Vaseline makes lips worse

AIBU?

So I have been using vaseline for a couple of weeks just because mine and DDs lips seemed a little dry. Well every time I try to stop using it, my lips go really sore and red, which makes me want to put more vaseline on. It feels like a vicious circle! I need to go cold turkey I think so my lips can get back to normal. Has anyone else found this?

I use a Decathlon cheapie one, which is miles better than anything else I have found - doesn't leave my lips feeling sticky.

I use some Body Shop ones. The Vitamin E one is good and I haven't reacted to it yet. Their Hemp one also works really well but smells like damp clothes. Ditto their hand cream which does the job wonderfully, but oh God, the stink...Envy

I started using Vaseline for the same reason when I was about 12, I’m 43 now and have been stuck with it ever since. I think once you stop relying on your lips’ natural moisture you’re stuffed. No going back

I find any lip balm - including Burt's Bees - overall addictive/drying if I use it too much. I use Neal's Yard Remedies Beauty Balm a couple of times a day and keep well hydrated, seems to work.

I love Vaseline! I have a big pot of it by my bed. Can't sleep without it on my lips and I've made dh the same.

He was really prone to cold sores and hasn't had one since he got the Vaseline habit many years ago.

Elizabeth arden 8hour cream

I prefer the cream or whatever it is...might not be cream, comes in a tube

Its expensive but its lasted me years...and years

They do a lipstick tube version as well

vaseline dries out my lips, I read years ago about the sun reflecting on it and burning your lips so not good in warm weather, not sure how true that is.

Use nipple cream, I promise you will never look back.

Yes to nipple cream that what I just came on to post. It's basically lanolin and actually protects your lips from getting chapped.

DS gets really bad lips if we're not careful. But a bit of nipple.cream before he goes out everyday works wonders.

Thank you for all the replies. I shall set about trying some of these. The only thing I have in my house right now though that might be ok is E45 cream- shall I?! My lips are soooo sore and red. I am steering well clear of the vasline, in fact I am never using it again.

Btw I am very well hydrated, the only thing I drink is water and plenty of it, or a tea in the morning. I think it was just the cold weather and I thought no harm in using a bit of vaseline, turns out I was wrong.
