I'm visiting an establishment in a few weeks that offers an "all you can eat" buffet type deal of foods from around the world. How can I get my money's worth?

Avoid fizzy drinks I assume. Don't want Co2 taking up precious stomach room.

Should I have a big meal the day before to prepare?

Eat slow?

Tips please. I want the restaurant to remember my visit as "Run Out Of Food Saturday".

To everyone who has asked, yes it’s Aberdeen

It’s a great shame, Jimmy Chung’s at the beach was a great place to go, I never heard or read anything about why it burned down

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2017 14:16

I almost fell asleep on my boyfriend's shoulder in there Zukie, because I'd eaten so much!

MiraiDevant · 16/11/2017 14:18

"Get a grip"?? I was asked if I disapproved of buffets. I don't - but really - do you honestly think that a thread asking how someone can maximise the space in her stomach, (eat a big meal the day before to stretch it??, don't drink anything that takes up "precious space") is not disgusting?

Really?

TemptressofWaikiki · 16/11/2017 14:30

My family is of mixed religions, nationalities etc. Food, however, unites them. Took a whole mob of them to an Indian all-you-can-eat buffet I used to go to sometimes. I never mustered too many rounds before to be fair. When we entered, the proprietor rubbed his hands with glee about having a large group of relative dainty-looking women enter. Little did he know that these broads were pros, armed with elastic waistbands and stomachs. It was like a swarm of locusts hit the buffet. They came, saw and ate almost everything, except the garnish. When we left, he looked a broken man about to weep. I am sure that is a total coincidence but noticed that the restaurant stopped doing those style of buffets the next time we came a few weeks later.

Ha Ha IHaveBrilloHair

We used to love going there, we really miss it,

Out of interest have you tried The Shack? I haven’t, but neither of my DDs were overly impressed, but a girl at work said it was lovely Confused

witchofzog · 16/11/2017 14:42

Mirai You sound fun. The op doesn't go often to be fair or she wouldn't be asking. To call her disgusting is a bit much.

Eolian · 16/11/2017 14:49

I don't understand why you would eat any more than you would in a normal restaurant.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2017 15:03

No, I'm not actually from Aberdeen though, I was visiting my bf.
He loves Melt and goes there all the time, have you tried it?

zukiecat · 16/11/2017 15:10

I’ve never heard of Melt IHave

Do you know where it is?

We only eat out very occasionally, usually Cosmo or a pub lunch

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2017 15:13

Quick Google tells me 58 Holborn St, which admittedly means nothing to me!
It's basically fancy cheese toasties

zukiecat · 16/11/2017 15:16

Just googled it

I wouldn’t go there as I don’t like melted or grilled cheese, They must do other things but I wouldn’t rush to a place where melted cheese is the main thing

zukiecat · 16/11/2017 15:17

Holburn Street is just off the Main Street, Union Street so not far from the city centre

DD2 might like it, but not my thing!

dataandspot · 16/11/2017 15:21

Goldenbug

Your chocolate fountain really made me laugh x

MiraiDevant · 16/11/2017 15:22

I am fun, of course I am. Like everyone I do lots of things - I just don't find stuffing my face with cheap food fun.

I didn't call the OP disgusting - it is the principle of greed that I find horrible. And this attitude is why we have a large section of the population so fat they are risking their health.

Fair enough - other people enjoy different things.

ineedwine99 · 16/11/2017 15:34

I go to one for lunch every so often with friends, i tend to have small amounts of bread/rice for the sauce, but scoop up more meat/veg. My husband goes to town if there is crispy shredded duck out :-D
We fill up on mains and only have dessert if have a bit of room left, i don't like feeling uncomfortably full. Agree with the PP re more smaller plates than less piled high. Only get things hat go, mixing indian and chinese on one plate can have dodgy results
Enjoy.
I get water to 1 save room and 2 save money :-)

No carbs.

No pudding until you can't eat a single bite of savoury. There's no going back to savoury.

I once got a small applause from a chef at a brunch which had its own cheese room. A cheese room! Fucking incredible!

I want to go somewhere there's a cheese room.

Spangles1963 · 16/11/2017 18:49

I speak from experience. Do not starve yourself all day, otherwise your eyes will be bigger than your belly, and you'll stuff yourself quickly at the start because you are famished, then feel bloated really quickly. Don't overdo the carbs, such as chips, rice and noodles,as these will fill you up quickly and are pretty low value,price-wise. Go for more expensive protein like duck, prawns or beef to get the best value. And good idea about not drinking coke,or any other fizzy drink,or alcohol,as this will bloat your stomach. I always ask for a jug of tap water at these places. They must hate me as the drinks are where these places make their profits.

FruitCider · 16/11/2017 19:37

* No pudding until you can't eat a single bite of savoury. There's no going back to savoury.

I’ve been known to have the puddings first Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2017 19:56

I want to move into the cheese room.

You DO NOT eat slow at an all you can eat buffet! You need to eat as quickly as you can, to get as much in as possible before your stomach realises it's full!

Odoreida · 16/11/2017 20:46

Don't bring tupperware as you will be putting warm food into a sealed environment and then probably putting it into the fridge still warm and it is basically like having a party for harmful bacteria. Enjoy yourself otherwise.
