I know it’s outside but it could come in couldn’t it?

I agree with KitKat. No need to harm spiders at all. I think it's horribly cruel to kill them. (and before anyone asks... yes I am a vegetarian Hmm)

ReanimatedSGB · 14/11/2017 20:28

I'm not fond of them but years of encouraging DS to be kind to wild creatures has rubbed off on me. Chivvy it off the step with a piece of cardboard and it will run away.

(OK if it runs up the cardboard and leaps for your throat, then maybe run away yourself...)

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/false-widow-spiders-to-invade-british-homes-this-winter-temperatures-cool-a8050961.html

I thought that looked familiar! Looks like a false widow! They can cause painful bites! Definitely move!!!

Tummelthecat · 14/11/2017 20:35

We evicted him last night. We were a bit worried he might kick down the door to get back in.

Crunchymum · 14/11/2017 20:39

It's outside though OP? Confused

WeAllHaveWings · 14/11/2017 20:40

If you look really close he's got really thick legs and huge bitey things.

But don't send dh out with his workboot. Ask him to put him in a nice box and deposit him near someone else's house (anywhere outside Scotland is ok).

BuzzKillington · 14/11/2017 20:42

Please don't kill it. It's just cruel. And unnecessary.

HashtagTired · 14/11/2017 20:45

I wouldn’t kill a spider outside unless it leaped at me. But I would if that was in my house. If dh was home then maybe he’d take it outside but I would not go near it.

What’s worse than finding a spider in your bedroom? Losing it.

I’d take no chances.

I’m not even scared of the bite. I’m not sure that would cross my mind. It’s just because it’s a spider and all creepy and sprinty.

RubaDubMum89 · 14/11/2017 20:51

Oh hell fire! Throw some holy water on that thing, call a priest then get your family and run. Leave your belongings, it's too late late for that now.

Leave and never return.

AnnabellaH · 14/11/2017 20:53

@ttbb unless that's a false widow or a woodlouse spider OP will be fine. Unless she's brought in a particularly large crate of bananas from the local market recently Blush

44PumpLane · 14/11/2017 20:54

FFS a trigger warning wouldn't go amiss here OP!!!! Please get one put on by MN HQ

HicDraconis · 14/11/2017 21:03

Holy crap. Have you got a flame thrower? Weed eater? Failing that be careful with your packing, you may inadvertently take it with you 😨

SpottedGingham · 14/11/2017 21:12

Wow. Serious spider envy here! Grin

MismatchedCat · 14/11/2017 21:16

I’m sending DP out there armed with a work boot as soon as he’s in.

It's not inside your house ffs, it's outside minding its own business. Leave it alone.

Weebo · 14/11/2017 21:20

Awh don't kill the poor bugger.

Put him at the bottom of the garden - He'll eat more than enough other nasties to earn his keep.

whydoesitalwaysrain · 14/11/2017 21:20

@MismatchedCat DP didn’t kill it. He went out with a piece of card and a glass and put it over the fence in our next door neighbours garden

whydoesitalwaysrain · 14/11/2017 21:21

No spiders were harmed

GnomeDePlume · 14/11/2017 21:22

On the plus side if it comes in that's Christmas Dinner sorted, everyone gets a leg! Is your oven big enough?

Weebo · 14/11/2017 21:24

I'm glad to hear it!

This is my normal reaction to spiders but I can't kill them.

mummymummums · 14/11/2017 21:26

Omg! Which part of the country do you live in OP? If it's South East that's too close for comfort and I'm moving too

dudsville · 14/11/2017 21:26

I had a large yellow spider casually and blatantly walking up to my open front door last week as I'd left the door open for it. I had to walk it with a bit of card off to the bushes.

Chrys2017 · 14/11/2017 21:26

Firstly can we all please stop with the irrational and childish spider hatred? If it weren't for spiders our world would be overrun with insects. Or do you really think it's ok to kill a living creature just because you think it's ugly and you're afraid of it?

This looks like a Tegenaria gigantea or Tegenaria saeva i.e., "giant house spider". The males come indoors in autumn to find females to breed with. (The females are already hiding under your bed.)

They are not venomous and do not pose any threat whatsoever to humans or pets.

BBCK · 14/11/2017 21:27

Totally misinterpreted your original message due to the typo and was thinking how sweet you were to be upset the spider wasn’t comin inside.

user1468353179 · 14/11/2017 21:27

Am I the only female who likes spiders?

inkandstone · 14/11/2017 21:29

It's just a house spider, not a false widow. Please don't kill it :(
