Now, I might be enjoying this fall out because my DS went to the HelloWorld event and was badly ripped off (a YouTuber event which went terribly wrong) but finally Zoella is being challenged on her over priced tat merchandise. Particularly her advent calendar which is £50 FIFTY FUCKING POUNDS for the likes of confetti, 2 tiny candles, a thin copy book and a Pom Pom!

Social media is going mad, there are thousands of tweets, a viral video lampooning it is doing the rounds and it was discussed on 5Live last night.

Is anyone watching this fall out?

Do we think this will finally be the end of these terrible, vacuous idiots? Or am I too optimistic?

I get the feeling that the comments on her video explaining that it wasn't poor little Zoella's fault that boots made her calendar too expensive may have been heavily edited. Or all written by Zoella.

Gawd, I just decided to watch one of her videos (had never seen one before). I got approximately 10 seconds in and had to switch it off, approximately at the point where she pronounced ‘traffic’ as ‘traffique’.

£50 for an advent calendar! And there isn’t even any chocolate in it! Not even an extra-big one behind door 24! Outrageous

The video addressing the calendar... within the first 2 minutes she’s declared she had an early night and the most refreshing sleep ever and then instantly said she didn’t sleep well because of the dog? Flip-flopping seems to just be part of her DNA.

I got DS a diy advent calendar (with 24 doors!) from tiger and get it will be a million times better (and cheaper) than this one!

She should have just said nothing about those tweets - most people (myself included) would have just assumed hey were fake and moved on.

I am genuinely shocked she wrote those things. I don't really follow her all that much but it's really changed my thinking of her!

If she’s had said “yes I wrote that tweets, it was absolutely unacceptable and I apologise wholeheartedly” and used it as a learning tool for her followers to be sensible about what you post online, then she could’ve clawed back some integrity but her response was fucking shite

I'd check with your daughters to see if they've watched her "Memory Box" video a few months ago: she goes through boxes of her old stuff, and brings out her "burn book" (a la Mean Girls) where she wrote down everything she thought about other people (some quite bitchy stuff) from the age of about 10... to 20! 20 fucking years old, and keeping notes on how so-and-so was "a slag".

Me too I don’t get any of this vlogging / promotion stuff at all. My kids love it. I’d muxh rather watch something well made on tv than someone wittering inane bollocks to try and get freebies

Yes fridgepants and she was already in her twenties then. Many people her age managed to be on twitter without using bigoted language then. Because they weren't bigots.

PelvicFloor you're right that the comments are edited. That video has 2k dislikes but the comments section is purely positive

@JonnaSilvie Just watched that memory video. She reads a page from when she was 11 calling a girl Lily a 'SLUT'. Then shows a picture she drew of her with the word SLUT over the top. She laughs about this in the video. I mean, yes, everyone grows up...but I would have probably just left that bit out if I was her. Knowing that is the age of her audience.

That calendar is worth a tenner max. And that would be mainly for the packaging.

With the reach Zoella has as well, it's highly likely that anyone who watched her video who was at school with her will know exactly who the people she's talking about in her burn book - not exactly nice for the people.

Went to our local library earlier and a librarian overheard a friend and I discussing her and told us that they’ve taken her books off the shelves due to the tweets which I think is an excellent start

Gherkin yes you're right. Hadn't thought of that. I can imagine what it would be like if my school bullies had a YouTube channel.

If that page was from her burn book Zoella must have been 14. I can imagine her to have been a bully in school (she might not have been), the popular kind of girl who put anyone down who wasn’t deemed pretty by her standards.
