To not want bizarre stringy tit anchors on my bras?

I went bra shopping this morning - annoying enough at the best of times but manufacturers seem to have developed some kind of obsession with adding weird stringy bits across the tops of the cups and between the straps. At least on anything that isn't 'basic' or a flesh coloured minimiser designed to make you feel as dowdy as possible.

I suit V necklines best, so I like plunge and balconette bras - adding a weird pointless web of extra metal hoops and strings just means you can only wear the bloody things under a turtleneck Angry

They look trashy, in my opinion.

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 12/11/2017 19:27

I really don't get this trend at all! They just remind me of my breastfeeding bras that flapped down! The opposite of sexy.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 12/11/2017 19:38

bedroom tittilaton accessory.

Oooh is that what posh people call sex toys Grin

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 12/11/2017 19:38

I like them and they come in my gigantic size! 38 E.

DogPerson · 12/11/2017 19:40

You think 38E is gigantic?

Try being a 32H

Ollivander84 · 12/11/2017 19:57

38E is the same size (volume) as a 32H...

kali110 · 12/11/2017 20:04

As mentioned above i can think of loads of places that sell other bras besides these, its not like these are the only option.
Also don't think only certain woman of one age can wear them.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 12/11/2017 20:06

I hate them. When I was slim they were a 36 C. Now I have a boob shelf.

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/11/2017 20:29

Beverley, that sounds like you need a bra intervention - I bet you weren't a 36C using proper fitting. M&S and their outdated practice of adding 4 or 5 inches on the band has meant women wearing the wrong size en masse. Getting your true size changes everything!

YouthsAStuffWillNotEndure · 12/11/2017 20:39

At school I had a friend who used to call a bra an over-shoulder-boulder-holder.

This thread has somehow brought it to mind from the depths of my memory....

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 12/11/2017 21:30

It’s true, I think... I measured them the way a poster here recommended and now no more armpit boob and now a shelf!

DonkeyOaty · 12/11/2017 22:04

Looks like Demi Moore's Indecent Proposal dress.

Bargainqueen · 13/11/2017 17:34

I think the bralette styles and the straps are fab. You're meant to wear them over slouch tops etc, so they peek out over the top or some are meant for under mesh tops etc. There are plenty of plain bras around too. It's just the style at the mo but I am embracing it. Try it, you may like it!

missg00se · 13/11/2017 17:36

I bought a Curvy Kate version of one of these contraptions. I bought it online so I didn’t really realise until it came, but when you’re my bra size you don’t send back anything that fits and is comfy. Plus when I tried it on, the seat belts were under my clothes. Went out for lunch with DH and when I was actually moving about in the thing, the stupid straps were on show the WHOLE TIME. I think if we’d been out at night in a bar or something I’d have felt less uncomfortable but we were in a nice, quite staid, brightly lit seafood restaurant with lots of well-to-do older people. I felt so inappropriate. My boobs can be a bit unruly at times but they do not need anchored/strapped in. And ‘heres my bondage bra, old lady! Look at it! LOOOK!’ was not really the vibe I was going for.

DH quite enjoyed the view though.

JetCityWoman · 13/11/2017 18:02

I love these bras! I have whacking great mammaries and find the regular balconette bras (the only style for my size/shape that really works well) can be really boring and/or floral. I have bought 4 or 5 of these in different colours already. They've certainly perked up my classic black dresses and I feel like I have a bigger wardrobe as a result.

The dark green mesh and glitter one from matalan was a steal www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2664193_c211/mesh-diamante-balcony-bra-green?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-Z3thJG81wIVa7XtCh3RAgESEAYYASABEgJmt_D_BwE and less strappy than others around.

I invest in my underwear. They're like shoes. you need a good set to keep you upright and feel great.

I do have a DIY harness I made for halloween thats basically a pentagram over my chest. had loads of people asking where I got it.

Im one of those ladies who wears girdles and stockings too Tights can get fucked with their muff irritating seams so this sort of bra doesn't phase me.

hattyhighlighter · 13/11/2017 18:11

Er, would flab not protrude from between the different sections? looks uncomfortable to me

Bratsandtwats · 13/11/2017 18:13

Primark has some gorgeous bra sets that don't have tit-anchors

Aren't bras by their very definition tit anchors?

GerdaLovesLili · 13/11/2017 18:19

I'm so glad I gave up on being tortured by bras and moved over to sports bras! What is this nonsense!? Why? and more importantly, how?!

ForalltheSaints · 13/11/2017 18:24

I am glad to read that some women realise how awful this so called fashion is.

HeebieJeebies456 · 13/11/2017 18:26

brat

not in my experience - i guess buying the correct size/design for your boobs helps.......

Dakiara · 13/11/2017 18:31

I might look for one of these - a couple of my dresses show the bra straps a fair bit. At least with these it's slightly less like a bra look IMO. :)

HeebieJeebies456 · 13/11/2017 18:31

Talking of fittings/measuring, i got measured at both Debenhams and M&S..........both gave me different sizes Shock

So i went to Bravissimo and they were brilliant at measuring - i just don't buy their stuff unless it's in the clearance sale Grin

Bratsandtwats · 13/11/2017 18:31

As a 38G I spend a fortune on well fitted bras.

HeebieJeebies456 · 13/11/2017 18:32

a that size brat you definitely need to Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 13/11/2017 18:35

ARF at displaying them with a low cut dress. They really couldn’t look any cheaper or nastier.
