To not want bizarre stringy tit anchors on my bras?

I went bra shopping this morning - annoying enough at the best of times but manufacturers seem to have developed some kind of obsession with adding weird stringy bits across the tops of the cups and between the straps. At least on anything that isn't 'basic' or a flesh coloured minimiser designed to make you feel as dowdy as possible.

I suit V necklines best, so I like plunge and balconette bras - adding a weird pointless web of extra metal hoops and strings just means you can only wear the bloody things under a turtleneck Angry

I thought it might be this one:

direct.asda.com/george/women/bras/entice-flock-balcony-bra/GEM565945,default,pd.html

Very odd. I'd be frightened of getting a nipple caught in the cat's cradle bits while getting it on and off.

mumonashoestring · 12/11/2017 17:19

I bought one of the balconette bras and cut the stringy bits off - I can't imagine a situation where you'd be that desperate for a) visible proof that you're wearing a bra (especially if you're above a D cup and not suffering from black eyes) and b) for that bra to be just that bit harder to get on and off without twanging it into your face or getting it caught on the bedroom doorhandle Grin I could understand the purpose of selling one or two lingerie lines that aren't designed to be worn under anything but the bloody things are everywhere.

I think of it like a statement necklace, kind of. I am always out of step on MN fashion threads; I like most things that are mocked and hated on here Grin.

mumonashoestring · 12/11/2017 17:24

You aren't meant to wear th under turtlenecks, they are supposed to be on display Smile

Not where I work they aren't Grin Maybe I'm not invested enough in my underwear collection... I know, I should probably invest in bras for work and bras for the weekend and something less comfortable to slip into in case the gas man turns out to be a bit dishy Grin

They look like seat belts for tits

Grin
CaptainBrickbeard · 12/11/2017 17:30

Good Lord; I wouldn't wear it for work! 😱

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 12/11/2017 17:37

I know these are meant for a younger demographic but I did try one to see if it would match up with my chest wrinkles. It didn't.

trumptown · 12/11/2017 17:37

Another while we're on the subject..since when did a lacy non-underwired bra become known as a "bralette"?

MassDebate · 12/11/2017 17:38

There is an increasingly trend toward this in bikinis too. Just the thing for crisscross tanlines across your chest Hmm

MeadowHay · 12/11/2017 17:43

I'm in my early twenties and I don't think I've hardly even seen them anywhere before. Are they quite a new thing? I do most my bra shopping online in outlets/sales now though as not many places stock my size and I'm skint. I agree they're probably really annoying under a lot of clothes. I don't really like the look of them either but different strokes for different folks, -shrugs-.

sizenines · 12/11/2017 17:55

Thank god for these, I must get one immediately.

My bosoms are forever floating out of my bra cups. Confused

WomblingThree · 12/11/2017 17:56

Oh for goodness sake, there are barely any of these bras in regular shops like Primark or M&S. OP, I get 5he feeling you were trying to start a thread where everyone clutches their pearls and (yet again) slags off women who like wearing stuff like this.

The misogyny on MN is ridiculous at times.

Ttbb · 12/11/2017 17:57

Where do you do your bra shopping Confused

NancyJoan · 12/11/2017 17:59

Yuck. These don’t seem to exist in the larger cup brands I favour.

Why would you want people to see a bit of your bra? I think I’m very old.

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/11/2017 18:02

There are loads of larger cup ones - the one I have is Curvy Kate. I thought they were really odd when I saw them around last Christmas but then I really liked them.

ShizeItsWeegie · 12/11/2017 18:09

Looks like a suspension bridge for tits. Isambard Kingdom Brunel would have been so proud ! Grin

Ollivander84 · 12/11/2017 18:12

It's so you have the option to wear them under a plain dress or top to look like this
This is a dress with it already on but I could wear a plain dress with a normal bra, or one of those. So two different looks

I have one of these. Bought about 4 years ago in Agent Provocateur as a bedroom tittilaton accessory.
Matching knickers have a lovely bow on the arse made in the same style.
Neither is comfortable enough however, to wear while I’m heading out to Tesco Express for a top up shop.

I think bondage has gone a bit mainstream, which is why even Asda sells it Wink

VikingVolva · 12/11/2017 18:19

I don't think disliking stringy tit anchors is any more misogynistic then disliking flared sleeves eg THAT M&S dress.

mumonashoestring · 12/11/2017 18:21

OP, I get 5he feeling you were trying to start a thread where everyone clutches their pearls and (yet again) slags off women who like wearing stuff like this

It's just possible you're looking a bit too hard for stuff to get offense by petal, I couldn't give a shit who likes wearing these, I would like the option of buying a non-boring, pretty bra in my size that doesn't come with 18 feet of extraneous twangy shit. I also like having the option of wearing thigh high boots, flat shoes, short skirts, tight dresses, combats and a t-shirt or fishnets BUT NOT AS MY ONLY PIGGIN' OPTION.

When did having personal tastes become misogynistic?

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 12/11/2017 18:29

Brastop has a massive choice

WomblingThree · 12/11/2017 18:31

It isn’t your only option, as lots of people have mentioned. You are being hyperbolic.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 12/11/2017 18:56

Try being a 40 JJ, you’ll really understand what a limited choice is! 😂

blackteasplease · 12/11/2017 19:11

I've never seen these in the shops myself (yet) but I don't think I would fancy that style either.

PickAChew · 12/11/2017 19:19

Gosh, it's one step up from carrying your fag packet in your bra. You can have your own portable memo board lashed across your chest!
