WIBU to let my chickens in next doors garden?

Seeing as their 3 fucking cats spend their days shitting in my dc’s sandpit and digging up my plants?

I’ve tried everything - squirting with water pistol, sonic cat repellant, covering up sandpit (they just shit on the cover then). I had a little nest of robins in my tree earlier this year and one of the cats knocked the nest over then put a baby bird on dc’s slide.

We have a low wall at the end of our garden that extends along the bottom of next doors garden too. My chickens are free range during the day and have recently been hopping up on this wall. Dh mentioned we should probably put up some kind of fencing to stop them walking along it and going into next doors garden. But next door have no problem with their pets shitting all over my garden and I’m inclined to feel the same about them tbh.

Cats are no threat to the chickens btw, the chickens have seen off the cats many a time (one of the reasons I’m quite fond of them). Next door don’t have a dog either so chickens would be quite safe there.

So you would rather let the cats shit in your children's sand than clear it off the lid? 😞⁉❔

Nousernamefound · 13/11/2017 17:44

We used a great organic garlic spray. The cats never came near sandpit after that. Although whole garden did smell like garlic bread!

Severide08 · 13/11/2017 17:44

Should say featherless not fatherless 🙄.

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 17:50

I've got both chickens and cats and my chickens shit LOADS more than the cats so perhaps a little unfair on your neighbours 😂 Plus I would feel unsafe letting chickens in a portentially unsecured garden. Cover your sandpit and problem solved! I think you can plant herbs (non poison obvs) that cats don't like too xx

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 17:52

dameglittersparkles You are horrible

FlouncyDoves · 13/11/2017 17:55

Get a B.B. gun and shoot the buggers they come into your garden. They’ll soon learn.

PeapodBurgundy · 13/11/2017 17:55

These people who rant at cat owners, what do you expect them to do? It's normal cat behaviour. Genuine question, not being arsey (I'm a cat owner, but mine are house cats for various reasons so can't cause anyone any bother besides me).

Floellabumbags · 13/11/2017 17:56

I have a pet. He's vaccinated, treated for parasites, kept under control (usually, there was an incident with a ginger cake in the kitchen this morning when I was distracted by a neighbour) and I clean up his shit.
I cannot comprehend how anyone can "own" a "pet" that spends its time killing smaller creatures and shitting asunder.
I particularly have issues when said creatures shit in the garden of the owner of a greyhound with a very strong prey drive (the dog, not me) (OK the dog and me) who is reluctant to let the dog out into our own gardenwithout checking for cats in case he kills one. The brass necked bastards shit in our window boxes FFS! Some days I can't think of a single reason to shoo the local cats away before he goes out.

stealthsquiggle · 13/11/2017 18:01

Peacocks are not that fussy about t architecture, OP. They are, however, quite expensive and prone to buggering off to live elsewhere - and need a nice big tree to sleep in to avoid foxes. They also make a god awful noise —but after you have had foster-geese for a while you may be immune to that—

Tika77 · 13/11/2017 18:01

Oooh... I’m just jealous your chickens are able to free range without a worry about foxes.

stealthsquiggle · 13/11/2017 18:15

Tika - our chickens are the same. Rural foxes, unlike their urban counterparts, generally stick to dawn and dusk hunting so as long as the chickens go to bed in time they are generally fine. (It also helps to have a commercial shoot with associated gamekeepers next door)

Severide08 · 13/11/2017 18:24

mustbemad17 fellow snake owner too.Find them fascinating creatures. I have a Royal Python ,you tell people and mostly they give you that you are nuts look 🤣 but then say ooh can i see it .

SkaPunkPrincess · 13/11/2017 18:35

OP, scoop the poo and flick it over the wall into the neighbours garden. It's what I would do.

mustbemad17 · 13/11/2017 18:36

Royal here too ☺️ I get him out & spend the day with him wrapped round my neck or asleep down my top 😂 Scared the bajesus out of an electrician the other day; i forget that not everyone thinks they're as cool as i do 😏

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 18:43

Floellabumbags I've got a cat and he has never killed anything at all, and poo's in his littler tray. He's a soft boy 😊 (unlike my chickens who swallow mice whole). You sound like one of those silly dog owners that hate cats - forgetting the fact that dogs are the most deadly/agressive animal in the UK..... not all dogs are the same/not all cats are the same....grow up

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 18:45

FlouncyDoves what a lovely person you are! I bet you have lots of friends

mustbemad17 · 13/11/2017 18:49

I'm genuinely intrigued by the statistics that prove dogs are the most aggressive/deadly animal in the UK...

The only way you can guarantee your cat has never killed anything is if your cat is either a house cat or you watch his every move whilst he's out...cats are predatory animals. Their instinct is to chase stuff...just like Floella's dog has an instinct to chase. It is not at all unreasonable to wish you could let your dog out in your own garden without having to do cat patrol first. Unless of course the cat owners are paying rent for their cats to be in the garden...

MasterofKittens · 13/11/2017 18:51

FloucyDoves that is cruelty and if you did that to any of my cats I'd report you. A BB gun will kill or maim a cat. Jeez what is wrong with people that they think they have a divine right to treat animals like this? I get that some people may not like cats but some comments on here are just plain mean

ChickenlessHead · 13/11/2017 18:53

There are foxes round here tika but they don’t seem to come in the garden. I’m not sure if that’s because they’re not urban foxes so are still scared of people or if my multiple cat deterrents have at least worked on foxes.

If one of your chickens (or a goose) attacked one of the cats in self defence, i wonder what your neighbours would say regarding any vet bill? I've seen chickens kick dog ass so have no doubt in groups they could snooker a cat

TeatimeForTheSoul · 13/11/2017 18:55

Chickenless I’m a cat owner and I completely agree with you, finding cat poo is awful.
Would much prefer if our cat would deign to use a litter tray so we could deal with it, but no he’s an outdoor cat. We’ve offered to try and cat-proof any neighbours gardens who he bothers. No takers yet.

Before moving we lived in a place with loads of cats and some disturbed soul did the ‘scoop and flick’ mentioned above. Left it where we couldn’t avoid treading in it getting out of car. There was some balanced on the gate too. My 3 yo picked it up wondering what it was. So person was brave enough to play with the poo but not to talk to us about it. Think anyone who scoops and flicks is more disgusting than cat poo by far.
Hope your chickens enjoy roaming and their temporary geesey companions.

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 18:55

mustbemad17 there are dog attacks on people every week in the UK - with some awful results sadly. I let my cat out only when I go out and he only stays in my garden (he keeps an eye on my chickens) and goes inside when I do. I don't think people should let thier cats roam about shitting in other peoples gardens no more than I think dog owners should let thier dogs shit everywhere..... I went for a walk on the beach today - dog shit everywhere

mustbemad17 · 13/11/2017 18:58

Not really a stastic for them beibg the most dangerous though is it? Hamsters bite people, probably every day, are they classed as dangerous too??

Btw i agree with your comment re dog owners...my personal feeling is if you are too lazy to clean up after a dog, don't bloody get one

Severide08 · 13/11/2017 19:03

mustbemad17 lol bet the electricians face was a picture .They are fascinating creatures and totally cool I agree.

Shiela2017 · 13/11/2017 19:14

mustbemad17 www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/10429862/Dog-attack-laws-and-statistics.html 200,000 attacks a year they reckon, looks like dog owners are costing the NHS a fortune...
