To wish Danny and Sandy didn't fly off in the car?

At the end of Grease? To me it’s just a horrible cheesy ending to one of my favourite films. And yes, watching it as a grown up i can see its messages are sexist and wrong and Danny is a complete turd, but I loved it as a child and can’t put it aside.

But the car, no...crap even as a child.

You wish they hadn’t ended the film by flying off in the car?

I wish they hadn’t ended the film by changing Sandy into a slapper. Grin

Laiste · 11/11/2017 08:53

The Toy Story one about Andy's mum being the little girl who originally abandoned Jessie fascinated me.

TheQueenOfWands · 11/11/2017 08:53

Maybe they weren't flying off in the car but everyone else was falling into a sinkhole to their deaths?

Would also explain Sandy waving goodbye...

RJnomore1 · 11/11/2017 08:53

Ohhh that's incredibly sad

PumpkinSquash · 11/11/2017 08:54

Isn't the Phoebe theory that she's a drug addict, homeless person sleeping rough in Central Park and she spots the 'Friends' in the window of Central Perk and makes up a whole fantasy in her head to escape for her horrible life? So the whole Friends series is Phoebe's little fantasy world?

Aw, what? What a load of bollox. (The theory, not you lol.)

Innocentbystander01 · 11/11/2017 08:58

The rugrats one is horrible

PineConesAplenty · 11/11/2017 09:00

So you are fine with a woman changing her appearance, smoking, pretending to be something she isn't etc to please the man she wants, but a flying car is too much?

I think it was John Oliver who said during the song summer lovin' when Danny is asked "did she put up a fight" we should be halting the movie right there saying, wait, what? You had to force yourself on her? Brilliant role model for young girls.

Wishfulmakeupping · 11/11/2017 09:08

God the rugrats one bloody awful some people have too much time on their hands coming up with this stuff

PoppyPopcorn · 11/11/2017 09:09

A much better ending would have been Sandy staying exactly as she was, telling Danny and the bitch-clique of the Pink Ladies to fuck off and heading off to Yale/Havard.

ParadiseLaundry · 11/11/2017 09:10

Oh, god. Come on, we need the Rugrats one now!

TheQueenOfWands · 11/11/2017 09:15

The Rugrats are all dead. Apart from Angelica.

I'd post details but it's pretty grim and possibly triggering for some people.

Dahlietta · 11/11/2017 09:24

Haha, Friends does make a lot of sense with the Phoebe theory!!

TheQueenOfWands · 11/11/2017 09:26

It does.

Especially is Phoebe is the most attention seeking out of them all. She dominates most episodes.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/11/2017 09:30

I love Phoebe! Yes she’s weird but she’s had a bad life and she’s still positive and upbeat. Ya’ll are mean.

TheQueenOfWands · 11/11/2017 09:33

Positive?

She's a bully!! Proper mean.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 11/11/2017 09:36

Oh fucking hell. Another thread over-analysing Grease. We JUST had one a few days ago.

Better not mention what I think of Pretty Woman then.

NorthCoast · 11/11/2017 09:39

I love the one about Labyrinth - was obsessed with that film when I was younger.

Rachie1986 · 11/11/2017 09:48

Can we please have a link to the Phoebe friends theory please?

And that Grease one has changed my perception forever..!

Theresnonamesleft · 11/11/2017 09:50

In the original script, they didn't fly off in the car. There was no flying car.
They all go off together, with arms around each other, singing a verse, and start dancing again.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 11/11/2017 09:50

I do agree though, Grease is a sexist, pro-bullying piece of shit, and I probably won't show it to my dd, but also Pretty Woman. OMG. Great soundtrack though.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 11/11/2017 13:09

Sorry this was meant to be a light hearted thread about the stupid ending to Grease not an in depth dissection of it. Blush

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2017 13:52

Oh don't worry MyGast. The flying off in the car thing was Hmm. But people do like to pick films to bits.

I might start a thread asking if Back to the Future is based on a true story. Grin

HulaMelody · 11/11/2017 13:58

To the pp who mentioned Harvard, as much as I would like to see Sandy put two fingers up to those smoking, singing delinquents she wanted to be friends with (Grin) there is nothing in the film to suggest she is brainy...
