It is arguable that Saint Paul was the, "First Christian", since he was the prime mover in spreading the new faith to the rest of the world. But for him and a small number of others it might well have remained an insignificant sect of Judaism.

SocMcDuffin · 10/11/2017 15:39

The first thing that we were taught as Catholics is that Peter (St., not O'Grady) was the founder of the Roman Catholic Church and St. Peter was the first pope. Naturally the sainthood came after the pope stint.

It always baffled me that as Catholics we learned all about a bloke from another religion - obviously I missed the class where they joined the dots.

CaveMum · 10/11/2017 15:41

As a JW my mum is adamant that Jesus was born in October, based on the fact that in mid-winter the hills around Bethlehem are covered in snow and that no shepherd in his right mind would be sat outside in the middle of the night watching his flock is sub-zero temperatures!

The80sweregreat · 10/11/2017 15:48

Paul o grady has never married, but he does have a child and grand children.

Sunshineandeggshells · 10/11/2017 15:49

Mary Christ, Joseph Christ and their son Jesus Christ. (Actually crying)

SimultaneousEquation · 10/11/2017 15:51

Jesus was Jewish, but he was also baptised and took communion, so I reckon there is a decent argument that he was actually Christian.

*elasmotherium sibiricum was a gigantic rhino that looked more like a woolly mammoth than a horse.

if it is behind the unicorn myth, stoneage men must have been permanently pissed.*

To be fair sailors thought manatees were mermaids!

Clandestino · 10/11/2017 15:59

SimultaneousEquation - he wasn't baptised in Christian faith.
John the Baptist wasn't Christian, his was once again a Messianic movement based on Judaism.

Ceto · 10/11/2017 16:00

According to Wikipedia, Paul O'Grady has a daughter but was never married to her mother. However, he was in a marriage of convenience for several years with a lesbian, Teresa Fernandes, although was not in an active relationship with her.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 10/11/2017 16:01

I can't believe people asked who Paul O'Grady is when the OP clearly wrote he is the founder of the Christian church. Grin

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/11/2017 16:01

The80sweregreat "Paul o grady has never married, but he does have a child and grand children."

He is currently married and had one previous marriage. First marriage to Teresa Fernandes, second and current marriage to Andre Portasio.

I love the way the discussion about Jesus and Christianity is interwoven with one about Paul O'Grady! Mumsnet at it's best!

I don't think most Jews in the Uk are white - they definitely look at bit foreign

Does God have genes?

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 10/11/2017 16:12

in which case his genetics are anyone's guess.

Grin Grin Grin

The80sweregreat · 10/11/2017 16:14

i didnt think that Paul was married! sorry.

Whinberry · 10/11/2017 16:14

Next people will be shocked that three Kings didn't visit Jesus in his stable...

Clandestino · 10/11/2017 16:16

*I don't think most Jews in the Uk are white - they definitely look at bit foreign but some are more Western looking than others and it would have been similar with Jesus of Nazareth. Christian belief is that he was the son of God and many Christians believe in the Trinity - 3 persons in one God and that he is God the son.

Very few people would dispute that Jesus was born Jewish. I suppose as his genetic father is supposed to have been God not Mary's husband then the issue is whether Mary generate the egg in which case he would be genetically at least half Jewish or whether both egg and sperm were implanted by God in which case his genetics are anyone's guess.*

Wow. This is the most asinine post I've seen recently.

brasty · 10/11/2017 16:16

I am surprised that so many people do not realise that Jesus is Jewish. This is actually recognised theologically by the main Christian religions. Jesus was born Jewish, was baptised into a sectarian Jewish sect and celebrated passover. Not sure how more explicit he could have been. Yes it was a Jewish sect rather than mainstream Judaism he followed, but still Judaism.

I kind of wish Paul O Grady would read this thread and comment on how he feels about being the founder of the Christian church.

Is the bit where God shagged Mary to put his genetic sperm inside her in the Bible?

Doobigetta · 10/11/2017 16:19

"Most Jews look a bit foreign"?! Wtf?!

brasty · 10/11/2017 16:19

God shagged Mary Grin

I am now 100% that my relatives are on this thread. There’s stating with absolute authority in opposition to someone else’s absolute authority.
Incidentally I am the best at stating things with absolute certainty that a quick google makes me a liar. I wish I had an interesting fact about Jesus to add.
