to think that nobody died from travelling backwards on a train?

Why do people make a fuss about this? The trains I travel on aren’t full, so I get to watch this pantomime of ninnies quite frequently.

Today I’m facing in the direction of travel at a table seat, empty seat beside me and two empty seats on the opposite side of the table. A couple get on, she sits opposite me and he insists I move my bag (the train is less than 50% occupied) so he can sit beside me.

I’m considering doing some man-spreading, even though I’m not one.

I love the way people have completely changed what I said because they have been called out for bullshitting

Like I said Motion sickness is very much a real thing. Vomiting 20sec after siting backwards on a train is something we would take extremely seriously.if you are experiencing those type of symptoms go to your GP at once. Feeling a little Motion sickness is very different from uncontrollable vomiting. I don’t believe 70% of posters here have that and are exaggerating. Go to your GP and I am sure they will agree with me. I am extremely sympathetic to those who who have a medical problem, not liars.

Mac12345 · 09/11/2017 10:43

If I'm travelling with my husband he'd rather sit opposite me so his legs don't get tangled up with someone else's. If he sits in a seat with no table his legs have to bend into the other person's space or stick out into the aisle. Not ideal.

You can't grumble when someone asks you to move your bag unless you've paid for your bag to have that seat.

TaylorTinker · 09/11/2017 10:46

So many stubborn bags on seats nowadays. I'd not travelled by train for ages then went back to it in last couple of years. Hardly anyone moves their bag now , you have to ask.

foodtime · 09/11/2017 10:48

GP, I do get them on prescription, as thankfully my doctor isn’t an arsehole

Wow an arsehole because I told factual information, nice!

ArcheryAnnie · 09/11/2017 10:48

However, I do have the sense to take travel sickness tablets, which most of you could also do.

I could, and I do, when there's no alternative. But why take medication at all for people who don't have to use wheelchair spaces, when there is an easy non-medicated solution?

ArcheryAnnie · 09/11/2017 10:49

I am extremely sympathetic to those who who have a medical problem, not liars.

...says the "GP".

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 10:50

Wombling that is crap (not as in I don't believe it, I mean it as that's a crap thing to have to do)

foodtime I'm not bullshitting. I feel sick almost immediately the train starts if I sit backwards. I don't go to the GP about it because I know what I've got - motion sickness.

You sound horrible by the way

TinyTear · 09/11/2017 10:50

@TonicAndTonic same with me, I'm, usually ok on regular trains but the Pendolino ones are terrible even if I'm facing forward.,

My 5 year old seems to be the same, she was sick all over OH as their seats were backwards facing when we went on a mini break last september

TaylorTinker · 09/11/2017 10:53

Loving the poster whose bag needs a seat but finds people with a predisposition to travel sickness precious..

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/11/2017 10:54

Hardly anyone moves their bag now , you have to ask.

We are sadly living in a culture where certain individuals think inanimate objects have more rights than people.

PandorasXbox · 09/11/2017 10:55

Shocked at the selfish people on here who think having their bag next to them should trump a human being sitting there. Shock

TaylorTinker · 09/11/2017 10:56

TinyTear, Pendolino trains were touted as a great step forward but I found them uncomfortable and a bit crap from their introduction. I understand the design idea but the ride for the passenger was never good.

NamasteNiki · 09/11/2017 10:56

Where are all these projectile vomiters on trains? Christ I hope all of you either avoid train travel completely or or sensible enough to take anti sickness medication ....you know deal with yourselves

BlueUggs · 09/11/2017 10:56

It drives me mad when people put their bag on the seat next to them and look horrified when you ask to sit down!!

FizzyGreenWater · 09/11/2017 10:56

I feel sick in the back of cars but not if I can see out of the windscreen.

Woah, you mean that if there's only a seat in the back you create a PANTOMIME OF NINNIES and insist on going in the front? HOW DARE YOU. Someone's bag might need that seat.

foodtime - shut up.

Xeneth88 · 09/11/2017 10:56

I'm seeing my GP in an hour, for more serious issues. Im going to show her the fake mumsnet GP's posts. She likes a bit of comedy and her reaction when I came too see her with my travel sickness was not to call people liars.

disahsterdahling · 09/11/2017 10:57

Why would I take travel sickness medication when there is an easy solution available - get a forward facing seat? Or twist around to the side in a backwards facing seat so I am actually pointing sideways rather than backwards (if the seat is an aisle seat).

It seems to me that some people are far too keen to rush off to the GP and/or take medication for things that can be managed in a different way.

PandorasXbox · 09/11/2017 10:58

Foodtime I wouldn’t vomit 20 seconds after setting off on a train but I would feel extremely nauseous and unwell. If there are no forward facing seats free I stand up. If I stayed sat in a rear facing seat for any length of time I would be sick.

BishopBrennansArse · 09/11/2017 10:58

Nobody died, no. But my autism, sensory processing order and ear structure (I’m deaf and have malformed inner ears) mean I’ll feel very sick.

Not an issue now. To start with I was a wheelchair user and had to sit by the stinky loos and feel sick anyway. Now there are no guards and nobody ever brings a bloody ramp even if I prebook so I’ve been forced off trains. I now use my motability car.

foodtime · 09/11/2017 11:01

foodtime I'm not bullshitting. I feel sick almost immediately the train starts if I sit backwards. I don't go to the GP about it because I know what I've got - motion sickness.

I am not claiming you are bullshitting in regards to motion sickness. It can be Extremely unpleasant. I was calling bullshit on posters who claim they vomit uncontrollably 20secs after boarding a train. If true, posters should see a GP immediately because that would be a concern.
If your motion sickness is affecting your life, then book an appointment there are things your GP can do to help.

Xeneth88 · 09/11/2017 11:01

@BishopBrennansArse

That's awful. I'm really sorry that you've been forced off trains.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 11:02

Niki

Yes, people either make sure they have a forward seat, stand up, take medication, or avoid trains all together.

OriginalRhubarbGin · 09/11/2017 11:03

As others have said, it's not going too kill me, no. But I am likely to vomit all over you!

Itsallabitwoowoo · 09/11/2017 11:03

Yes those Pendolino trains are awful for travel sickness. DD never been sick on a train before but was sick on this one. Frankly I'd rather give you my seat (and stand up) than risk you being sick over me - despite having children I still have a bit of a phobia about it. Never go on a car / train trip without a sick bag.... People don't make this up, it really does make them sick!

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 11:03

BishopBrennansArse yes that is appalling. Another outcome from rail privatisation. Hurrah for share holders! Boo to passengers!
