AIBU to be annoyed by open train windows

Today it’s 5 degrees outside and someone just got on my uncrowded train carriage and threw open several windows and it’s now freezing. Yesterday someone got on who looked like they had run or cycled to the station (sweaty) and politely asked if I would mind if she opened the window (a window that would blow directly in my face). She gave me daggers when I said I’d rather she didn’t. Less annoyed by the polite person of course but she did make me feel I was BU. If it was crowded or hot I’d understand it, but it’s 5 degrees! I’m wearing a coat, scarf and gloves as it is! AIBU?

Another lady of a certain age here whose thermostat is fooked. At home my poor DH will get me a blanket and be rubbing my feet and ordered keep his arm round me because lm freezing then five minutes later lm telling him 'GET OFF ME I'M BOILING ' Grin On a train obviously l would get very funny looks from the man next to me so l just put up with either end of the temp scale.

I run cold and would prefer windows closed. I take a quiet train so shutting them is often OK (nobody else in the carriage) or I can easily move.

I don't get why people open the window next to their seat though. That's not where the air blows in Confused

If I get too hot during the day I open my stable door. I love a breeze.

Are you a horse? Confused

PandorasXbox · 09/11/2017 22:16

Yeah. All horse I am 🙄

YANBU. If they are hot they should just stand by a window (preferably where it won't effect anyone else) and open it a tiny bit effectively blocking the cold air with their body. They get cool and everyone else stays warm. It's not that hard.

walnutwhip88 · 09/11/2017 22:20

YANBU!! Those people that throw the windows open on buses/trains without asking anyone around them first are rude SOBs. Also throwing daggers at you when you said no to her opening the windows kind of defeats the object of her asking in the first place (to be polite) so YANBU there either

ShirleyPhallus · 09/11/2017 22:32

But.... can't people smell that awful "bodies too close together and unclean coats" smell?!

Irrespective of temperature, the windows open are a necessity because of the above!

TheCatsPaws · 09/11/2017 22:32

I hate windows open. I’m often cold and I hate the noise of the wind rushing in. It’s very uncomfortable to have it blowing on me, and unless the train is a packed then it’s not “hot”. I shut every window in the carriage usually.

InspMorse · 10/11/2017 06:02

nothing worse than feeling too cold.
Feeling too hot?

PussCatTheGoldfish · 10/11/2017 06:18

Open window on a crowded train any time of year, fine.
Open window on a half or less full train in winter, no. It's like being in an icy wind tunnel! Especially for those sat further back from the open window.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/11/2017 06:30

Trains generally smell of farts. Open the windows I say!

Lethaldrizzle · 10/11/2017 08:12

Inspmorse - but the reason the window openers want them open is not because they're too hot, it's because of its the smells - and its kinda weird not everyone can smell those odours?!

TheCatsPaws · 10/11/2017 08:17

The only thing I can smell on trains is food. People eating smelly food on trains deserve to be sent to the gulag.

strugglingtodomybest · 10/11/2017 08:28

Yanbu and this is the reason that I will be driving to Heathrow today rather than catching a train. I'm fed up of spending money on 6 hours of shivering.

If its cold you can put a jacket on to warm up.

But what if you're still cold? I only travel with one coat. And I wear a thermal vest every day during winter, sometimes two.

InspMorse · 11/11/2017 08:02

The worst smell on a commuter train has got to be people who ate a ton of garlic/curry the night before, the smoker or the drinkers.
The whole carriage has to put up with stale food, beer, fag smells escaping from every one of their pores. Envy < sick not envy.
