AIBU to be annoyed by open train windows

Today it’s 5 degrees outside and someone just got on my uncrowded train carriage and threw open several windows and it’s now freezing. Yesterday someone got on who looked like they had run or cycled to the station (sweaty) and politely asked if I would mind if she opened the window (a window that would blow directly in my face). She gave me daggers when I said I’d rather she didn’t. Less annoyed by the polite person of course but she did make me feel I was BU. If it was crowded or hot I’d understand it, but it’s 5 degrees! I’m wearing a coat, scarf and gloves as it is! AIBU?

Ah, the work heqting level argument always runs and runs! It nearly sent people into full on fist fights at my last place. I had to buy a thermometer to prove what the temperature was.

Can’t see the point in heating your house and throwing open the windows. No wonder we have a global warming issue! I do have that argument with my husband daily. He’s a fresh air person. Thanks god he doesn’t come on the train with me.....

I used to always feel cold - then I got pregnant and now I know that being too hot is WAY worse than being too cold. For one thing it’s much easier to warm yourself up than cool yourself down, and while being cold is very unpleasant (unless you have a condition that makes it painful, obviously), being hot is unbearable and can make you feel really ill. I’ll always side with the too hot people from now on!

Julie8008 · 08/11/2017 22:32

windows open all the way.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/11/2017 22:33

God the warm stuffy trains are the worst

No one has ever drycleaned their coat from last winter either so the smell is all horrible and musty with a whiff of stale frying thrown in too. I'm a window opener for sure!

LemonysSnicket · 08/11/2017 22:35

I pass out when I get too hot ...usually only happens on trains/tubes...if I need to open a window so I don't smash my head on the way to the floor because you can't take your hat and gloves off then I shall.

PandorasXbox · 08/11/2017 22:35

I open the windows at night when the heating is off. I don’t have them open during the day when I have the heating on but because I’m having hot flushes all the time I have to get some air so will open the top half of the door!

mumeeee · 08/11/2017 22:39

YANBU. I really can't stand train or bus windows being open. That's unless it's a really hot day.
We do have windows open in the day sometimes. However we don't open them when we have the heating on as that just wastes energy and uses up a lot more fuel .

underkerstumbled · 08/11/2017 22:45

Opening windows in your house when it is cold outside - sure. But a house is stationary.

An open window on a train going at 100 miles an hour when its 4 degrees outside causes a freezing draught you can't get away from. YANBU.

MrsDoyleFallingOutTheWindow · 08/11/2017 22:48

Yanbu. Opening windows in winter is just stupid - it's cold fgs. As for the people saying to put on extra layers - where are these layers going to come from on a sodding train? The jumper trolley? Fresh air freaks are fucking annoying.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/11/2017 22:50

It's not cold if the train heaters are on full....

AuntJane · 08/11/2017 23:23

A bit of fresh air may be a good thing, but when it's blasting in at 70 miles an hour that's another matter. I'm with you, OP - especially when someone boards the train, opens the window, and then moves halfway down the carriage.

Seeingadistance · 09/11/2017 00:09

Have none of you people ever been on a cold train?! The trains I was on today were most definitely not hot and stuffy, even when busy at the start. No one opened any windows, thankfully.

RunningOutOfCharge · 09/11/2017 00:21

Jeez it’s not even that cold

Yabu

RunningOutOfCharge · 09/11/2017 00:22

It’s not ‘winter’ either!

Seeingadistance · 09/11/2017 00:31

It's cold where I am in Scotland. Have had to scrape ice off the car windscreen the past few days.

What trains are you catching?!
No train I have been on in the last 20 years going 100mph has opening windows!
Local train services (with opening windows) chug along!

Tory cuts. Britain should lead the world in rail, shouldn't we? We invented it.

Ethylred · 09/11/2017 06:46

Annoyed? Really?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 09/11/2017 06:51

YANBU OP. I hate it when people do this. It's not comparable to the muppets who open windows at home, because a train is travelling very fast so you get a very heavy freezing breeze.

Just shut them again.

InspMorse · 09/11/2017 06:52

Although I'd quite happily blame everything on the Tories I think the fact that fast trains don't have opening windows (a single sealed panel with no opening) is more to do with H&S! Grin

PandorasXbox · 09/11/2017 07:42

Just shut them again

I’d just open them again, explaining that I felt unwell.

stressedinsurrey · 09/11/2017 07:42

Heating on in the train this morning and nobody’s opened a window yet! Smile

OP posts:
Caulk · 09/11/2017 07:50

Definitely fresh air and I’d rather it was cooler. Another one with windows open at night!

Shiela2017 · 09/11/2017 09:03

Yes YABU Trains are cramped and smelly, usually someone has a cold and is coffing in my face. You are less likely to catch a cold if there is an open window letting in fresh air... put a coat on if you are cold....
