To be massively annoyed at Amazon prime

doris9034 · 07/11/2017 22:34

So I placed my order and promised delivery today. At 11.43 I got confirmation my order was out for delivery. At 21.42 I got a message saying "we tried to deliver your order but failed. There has been someone at home all day and I have an instruction set to leave in a safe place if not in. So clearly they haven't tried to deliver my order- they just haven't bothered! This is not the first time ive had failed deliveries so I'm paying £80 for "guaranteed" next day delivery on Prime which actually doesn't happen - anyone else had this issue?

No, doesn’t sound like it is. How irritating for you, but still - a month free isn’t a bad thing as long as you didn’t need whatever it was urgently.

Ragusa · 07/11/2017 23:17

I love Amazon Prime. Have only ever had one item not delivered when it should have been and a replacement came swiftly.

SistersOfPercy · 07/11/2017 23:17

I'm guessing it might depend on which warehouse too. I live reasonably close to one (not Luton) and never had an issue. Couriers here are almost always young polish men with their own vehicle who are lovely.
I know they are under a hell of a lot of pressure, not sure how amazon pays and if it's per parcel dekivered though.

theliterarycat · 07/11/2017 23:19

Never had a problem. I think thry are fab. Except the tax thing of course.

HashiAsLarry · 07/11/2017 23:20

I keep getting this with them recently too. Anything that requires a signature is nearly always failed delivery. They've told me they require adult signatures for certain items which is fair enough, except my neighbours are all adults and they have no issues putting 18 rated DVDs through my door. And their delivery time is 7am to 10pm apparently.

crazycatgal · 07/11/2017 23:34

In the past few days I’ve had one item which was not what I’d ordered and one ‘failed delivery’ even though someone had been in all day and nobody had knocked or left a card.

Ellisandra · 07/11/2017 23:44

I have Prime and have had almost no issues - I get most of my. On food / clothes shopping from Amazon.

But a couple of weeks ago I had the same thing as you - I have a safe place and I was in, they claimed the tried. Bollocks. I wouldn't have minded a true failed delivery - but the lie irked me.

I called to cancel - it was a slow cooker and I'd ordered Mon for Tue delivery as I wanted to use it first thing Wed.

Wed morning I went to Argos in person. It arrived Wed pm and I refused the delivery. Noticed it was showing on line as delivered 10 mins later. Rang up - was told to leave it a day as driver would correct. Bollocks, I thought.

Thu, I get another "you were out" when I wasn't. (And even had another Amazon parcel ring at the door!)

Fri I go out, and the sodding thing is delivered!

I ring up again. They say they'll send me a returns label but I have to take it to the post office. There isn't one near where I live or work. I said - you need to pick it up. They said - we don't have a workflow for that.

I said - I don't have a workflow for going to the post office to correct your mistakes.

They let me keep it. Which wasn't my intention (it was £20 and I'd gone and bought another) but no way was I going out of my way to return it!

I told them that I would have done, if it had just been an error. But not for the lying about delivery attempts, twice!

LapdanceShoeshine · 07/11/2017 23:48

amazon logistics can be rubbish - as can Hermes & Yodel - I think in all cases it's down to the individual courier (I never have problems with DPD, the others are generally OK but there's the odd hiccup)

Hope your parcel turns up before your friend leaves, OP!

WorraLiberty · 07/11/2017 23:52

Never had this problem with Prime but had it with Argos Fast Track.

I got an email saying no-one was home when they tried to deliver at 2pm. I spotted the email at 2.05pm and as my house is open plan, I was sitting right next to the front door.

I called to complain and was told the driver had an accident in his van. So that just proved the email was a load of bollocks.

I asked them if it was standard policy to blame the customer for not being home, whenever their drivers run into a problem and their 'reply' was simply a £5 off voucher if I spent £20 Hmm

BuzzKillington · 07/11/2017 23:54

I love Prime - worth every penny.

We've never had an issue.

DoubleDinghyRapids · 08/11/2017 00:25

Amazon are usually good when you complain.

I pay monthly for my Prime and at £7.99 the delivery on its own pays for itself each month, but as that that £7.99 also includes their tv and music services (not all content obviously) kindle library borrowing and unlimited online photo storage, its a bargain.

I’ve had to phone twice once when a delivery didn’t arrive and I got a free month of Prime, and also once when a book had crumbs in, I was fully refunded, told to keep the first item and they sent another copy of the book the same day free and also a free month of Prime.

Ontheboardwalk · 08/11/2017 00:26

What's annoyed me is that I'm close to a major Amazon warehouse and I used to get my deliveries nice and early.

Now that they offer same day delivery in my area all my deliveries come after 6pm, even if I order them early the day before.

Where once I would get true next day delivery now my next day could be any time up to 10 pm

DoubleDinghyRapids · 08/11/2017 00:30

I’ve read and heard horrible things abiut the conditions their drivers have to meet. It’s more likely it wasn’t delivered due to them not having the time, than them being lazy. Not good either way, but after watching the item I did about the conditions and reading drivers experiences I feel a bit sorry for them.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/11/2017 00:35

I've had nearly two years of free Prime through complaining every time they fail to deliver.

Viviennemary · 08/11/2017 00:55

Amazon Prime is the biggest con ever. I just wouldn't pay £80 a year for postage. I'd rather wait a few extra days.

Pugfather · 08/11/2017 00:58

I had exactly the same thing really frustrating especially paying for the prime membership

DandySeaLioness · 08/11/2017 08:48

Sorry if someone had mentioned this already. If you chat to them they will extend your Prime menbership by a month every time a delivery is late.

Jayne35 · 08/11/2017 08:55

I get this all the time with Hermes and Yodel, as I have everything delivered to work and there is a 24 hour reception it's just not possible that no one was in. Very annoying.

Prime has been ok for us and as I use it mainly for the music and tv services find it's value for money - the free postage is just a bonus.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 08/11/2017 09:32

I love Amazon Prime! Round our way (Welwyn GC distribution hub) they seem terrifyingly efficient. I’ve been a member for several years and only had 1 item not turn up when promised (it was delivered the next day).

MammaTJ · 08/11/2017 10:10

If it was just postage, I might agree, although I certainly get my monies worth out of that. We do not have sky, we cannot afford it. We do use Amazon prime to view programmes we would not otherwise be able to see. That makes it excellent value for money in my eyes.

Abra1d · 08/11/2017 10:16

You also get Prime Reading free.

GladAllOver · 08/11/2017 10:23

And cloud file/photo storage.

lirpaloof · 08/11/2017 10:34

I was at home when the postman put our post through the letterbox. I picked it up and noticed their calling card to say they had tried to deliver a parcel but no-one was in. I could see the postman across the communal hallway so I went out and said I could take delivery of the parcel he had just tried to deliver. He said the parcel was back at the sorting office and that they don't have time to rings bells, wait for someone to answer etc which is why he put the card through. So maybe it's the courier service that is causing the delay, not Amazon Prime? Either way, it's frustrating when you're paying for a service you're not getting.

KittyLover91 · 08/11/2017 10:42

I keep ordering stuff on prime that isnt actually being delivered for 3 days, how is that prime?!

NotBadConsidering · 08/11/2017 10:53

I reckon it's deliberate. Amazon are releasing 'Amazon Key" that will allow you to let verified people into your house via remote access. Best way to drive a demand for that? Piss people off by making them miss deliveries.
