With to be shitty with the stylist and the real estate agent?

I have just paid nearly 9 Grand to have a stylist "do" my late mother's house prior to sale. She told us what furniture she wanted to keep, and what had to go into storage. I had to empty the place by myself and while doing so I noticed that under a cabinet, where the light hadn't reached the floor, it was about five shades lighter than the rest of the room. I sent photos to the agent and was assured that the stylist would sort it out.

Please see attached photos... Don't you think it sticks out like dog's balls? I would be embarrassed about this "solution" and would have put down a longer, bigger pot or something. How dare they say that it's "sorted"!!!

Can they not get someone in to stain and varnish it so it matches the rest of the floor?

milli

OP posted a link on one of her early posts

Beautiful house!! Tho it looks like there’s a plant sitting on the armchair in pictures 4&5 Wink

NotAgainYoda · 05/11/2017 08:29

What has the stylist done for 9 Grand? For that kind of money I'd expect them to clear the house themselves

I don't think the floor would put buyers off. Seems to me it's fixable, but YANBU to think the stylist should deal with practical issues like that

flumpybear · 05/11/2017 08:29

Wow why don’t they just get the floor sanded and re varnished!!!
You’re right to have a go at them, piss poor

NotAgainYoda · 05/11/2017 08:31

There's a yellow leaf on one of the plants too - that should be taken off Grin

justilou1 · 05/11/2017 08:34

If they sand and varnish the floor to match the rest, over time, that section will end up darker. (It's the lacquer) If it is left in direct sunlight - not an issue in that room at all - it will darken fairly quickly by itself.

I've no idea what it looked like before, but it does look super.
But ramming a plant pot and footstool together is an unusual interior design aesthetic!

RoganJosh · 05/11/2017 08:35

Not the same point, but is there a reason there’s a plant pot on a chair in the sitting room?

NotAgainYoda · 05/11/2017 08:36

Just tell them to put something solid over it.

justilou1 · 05/11/2017 08:36

Yoda - Couldn't agree more about the yellow leaf. Bet the bloody plant hasn't been watered since I was there last week emptying the bastard house. (Golden child has assured me that this is his top priority. Am holding my breath, of course...)

It definitely has been lacquered. The floor is totally smooth. There would be edges if it hadn't been. The wood was never stained. (I think it's bamboo, but don't quote me.)

LondonNicki · 05/11/2017 08:38

It's a beautiful house! Those windows... I'm sure it s just a case of staining the wood, it wouldn't put me off buying it but I agree the stylist should have arranged for that to be done.

justilou1 · 05/11/2017 08:40

I didn't notice the plant on the chair. It's actually behind it, but the cushion looks like a giant pot, doesn't it? Weird.... Will mention that to the agent too. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!!!

Butterymuffin · 05/11/2017 08:41

That's poor of them for that money. It should be completely covered.

helterskelter99 · 05/11/2017 08:41

No advice but fab house x

WipsGlitter · 05/11/2017 08:45

What was there before? You need to either put it back or get something the same size.

arsenalwatford · 05/11/2017 08:51

Amazing house. There's a lift!!

CoffeeCupCake · 05/11/2017 09:02

Oh dear, that rug looks so out of place that the first thing everyone is going to do is lift it to see what it’s hiding.

MrsOverTheRoad · 05/11/2017 09:07

Why are you doing all this if the proceeds are going to Golden Child?

SoupDragon · 05/11/2017 09:08

Irrelevant to the point of the thread, but on the picture of the pool, what is that thing that looks like some, kind of mutant animal crawling out?

SoupDragon · 05/11/2017 09:10

Oh... it's OK, I've found another picture and it's a rock 😂

RoganJosh · 05/11/2017 09:11

I can see it’s a cushion now, that’s funny! I can still see the plant pot if I want to though.

MidniteScribbler · 05/11/2017 09:21

The floor hasn't been done correctly. Someone has just lacquered around a piece of furniture that was there before.

justilou1 · 05/11/2017 09:21

The piece of furniture that was there was a very tacky 80's reproduction/pseudo japponnaise buffet - black lacquered melamine with gold edges. It went to the dump.
