Just finished the ironing, went to turn the iron off and knocked into the board. Instead of letting the iron fall to the ground like any normal person I tried to bloody catch it Sad with the plate coming straight for my hand.
Now I'm a bit frazzled and in a bad mood because of my stupidity.

Flowers @MaidenMotherCrone Bloody bastards I had a similar situation at a job. A colleague grabbed my ass when I was about 17. I went and told the manager. The next morning I got a call to tell me not to bother coming back. Turns out the colleague and manager were best friends. Hmm To be fair I was happy about getting the sack though. I'm a loyal worker and don't leave unless I absolutely have to

Put my hair straighteners down on my bare thigh while doing my hair at stupid o’clock in the morning last month
My knuckle has just healed from me grating a chunk out of it while making dinner around the same time.
Nearly got stuck under ds’s bed last night trying to retrieve all the socks he’s kicked off while he’s sleeping

Picked up the casserole pot to move it from hob to board with my bare hands-it had just come out of the oven having been there for the last 4 hours. I clearly do not learn from my mistakes as I have repeated this...several times Blush

Sold a dress on eBay (a nice good quality one for a really good bid), was packing up the dress and had a bit of excess packaging. Instead of taking the dress out and cutting packaging down to size, I left the dress in and cut a massive chuck out of it by accident. Idiot.

Have you a cold bottle (wine or something), that you can hold to keep your hand cool?

Thank you Op, Onwards and upwards to better things!

Loveisthelaw · 04/11/2017 20:50

Today I went out for over an hour. I'd left the front door wide open.
I'm very pregnant, that's my excuse (not good enough!)

questionbasket · 04/11/2017 20:57

Witchofzog, I also did the ironing-the-carpet thing. Some spilled wax out of a candle was also involved. I thought I was the only one to have done something so random, until I went round to my brother's and saw a triangular patch on his carpet aswell ShockSo many people must lose deposits this way!

I once tested how sharp a razor was...
on my finger Hmm

BoulevardofBrokenSleep · 04/11/2017 21:08

Yeah, there's a reason the mantra 'never catch a falling knife' is burned into my brain Grin

I also frequently lift a casserole dish out of the oven carefully, with gloves on, take the gloves off, and then remove the lid with bare hands.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/11/2017 21:13

When I was about 8 I wondered how hot the end of my just extinguished sparkler was.
Very, it turns out.
I have left the front door open all day.
Tried an expensive foot butter just after I'd had a bath. Got up off the bathroom floor, and skidded about like it was an ice rink. How I escaped unscathed is a mystery.
Gashed my thumb wide open separating frozen meat. Kitchen devils are aptly named.
There are many more.

Curling my eyelashes when something fell off a shelf, rather than letting go of the curlers I reached out and tore out my eyelashes..

Using the ironing press while naked and shutting it on my nipple

Namethecat · 04/11/2017 21:19

Was using a very sharp peeler to remove the skin of a butternut squash. Peeled down my finger - the skin was hanging off in a long strip, just dangling there. It would not stop bleeding and had to take a trip to A &E .

Kpo58 · 04/11/2017 21:22

I managed to splash boiling water over my (pregnancy) bump today. I keep burning myself cooking for my toddler, but not for other people. Hmm

debbs77 · 04/11/2017 21:25

These type of threads have me in fits of giggles!

As a kid, after the hurricane of 1987, we had a guy put up new fences and I was watching.

He drilled into the fence post and when he pulled the drill out the drill bit got stuck...... I grabbed it..... burnt my entire hand

JustDanceAddict · 04/11/2017 21:27

Buying the house I currently live in. I let dh pressure me and wish I hadn’t.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 04/11/2017 21:27

Ironed my skirt to put on straight away - caught the edge of the iron against my bare thigh. It bloody hurt, and I had a huge strip of scab across my thigh

rightsaidfrederickII · 04/11/2017 21:27

Left my entire handbag on the bus the other day, and was then seen running through local naice area screaming "stop that bus!" at the top of my lungs as I tried to catch up with it at the next stop Blush

Didn't manage to catch the bus up, but by some miracle I got it back after I waited on the opposite side of the road for the same vehicle to come back around Gin

Moggie45 · 04/11/2017 21:29

Decided to impress my then BF (now DH) and cook dinner, I put my hand in the food mixer (no idea why - blame the wine!) and then turned it on... a trip to A&E, 15 stitches later... on the plus side he likes to do the cooking now...

Babababababybel23 · 04/11/2017 21:30

Good thinking @rightsaidfrederickII
I would of not used any common sense and just gone home pissed off that I had lost it Grin

I had a wart on my little finger years ago so got some wartner. I lived in a flat with my friend at the time, and one evening decided to do the wart treatment. We put the foam thing in the can, touched it to my finger and a few seconds later - whoosh the wartner can had a massive foot high flame coming out of it. We had both failed to think about the fact that flatmate had bloody tea lights burning everywhere.

I got up and legged it out into the hall like a big wuss, whilst she filled a cup with water and chucked it at the can in a panic. Thankfully it was all fine and the can went out. We had both just become science teachers too, so really know excuse for being so bloody stupid.

Another time, in our previous flat, we’d been to a gig and a bus drove past on our way home, though a massive puddle and absolutely drenched me. We picked up pizza on the way home but when I got back I shoved mine, box and all, into the oven to keep warm, whilst I went for a shower. A few minutes later there was crazy banging on the door as it had caught fire and flatmate flung it into the shower to extinguish.

Thankfully I seem to be a lot more sensible around flammable materials nowadays Grin

bigtapdancingpimp · 04/11/2017 21:32

Smashed a bottle of ouzo and used my bare foot to sweep it up. There was glass, blood and ouzo EVERYWHERE

TheSockGoblin · 04/11/2017 21:33

Decided the best way to cut a tough piece of broccoli with a dull blade was to hold underneath it. Still got the scar on my finger.

Also slammed a door shut while my thumb was neatly nestled in the open corner. Lost the nail.

Turned up at the airport for a long awaited holiday to Barcelona. Got to passport control, opened my passport ready to hand over and realised I'd picked dh's up instead of mine. My friend went on her own and I had to fly out the following day after re-purchasing new tickets.
