Posting for traffic. But I'm in a mess. I'm hosting a film party tomorrow for dd and her friends. They're 9 & 10 years old.
What can they watch? It needs to be about 1.5hrs long, engaging, funny and appropriate for their age.
Any suggestions!!? Help!

We love Sing it’s so funny PG as well

HolyShet · 04/11/2017 17:39

School of Rock

ScarlettDarling · 04/11/2017 17:40

What does your dd fancy watching? Surely she'll have a good idea of what her friends like? My 10 year old and her friends love Descendants as mentioned by above posters, and Descendants 2 has just been released.

Jedbartletforpresident · 04/11/2017 17:41

Dolphin Tale is good at that age. My DDs also love Freaky Friday and Parent Trap - older movies but have held up well. None are too girlie girlie - and lots of laughs in the latter two

Evelynismyspyname · 04/11/2017 17:42

I've got a 12 year old DD - I wouldn't presume to choose the film for her (I'd have to approve or veto, but she's on the cautious side so usually her choices are fine). How on earth do parents know what's cool for 12 year olds? Totally different ball game to choosing for a 6 year old...

Let your DD do some research on google and decide.

What do you have access to? Amazon or Netflix or some other pool of movies on demand?

Ilovehamabeads · 04/11/2017 17:42

Enchanted.
Teen Beach movie
Descendants
Matilda

iseenodust · 04/11/2017 17:43

Beethoven (the dog)
Lilo and stitch
Pocahotas
When it's a party/gathering of friends I go back a few years so they haven't all just seen it multiple times.

AnneOfCleavage · 04/11/2017 17:45

My DD watched Grease 2 for her 9th but the first one is great if no one has seen it and a PG. I find watching these types of movies young they generally don't question the grown up content - goes over their head.

SeaToSki · 04/11/2017 17:45

If you have some time to fill after the main film, Pink Panther cartoons are always funny

Jaxhog · 04/11/2017 17:45

Ask your dd?

TeenTimesTwo · 04/11/2017 17:46

Not a 12.
It puts the other parents in a difficult position.
There are loads of PG/U films to choose from.

archersfan3 · 04/11/2017 17:47

Brave?

MuddlingMackem · 04/11/2017 17:47

What about The Sound of Music? Introduced my then 10 year old to it a few months ago and she loves it. Grin

MinorRSole · 04/11/2017 17:48

Boss baby is the current favourite in our house. I loved it the first 30 times too..... but it really is very funny

NeverTalksToStrangers · 04/11/2017 17:51

Old school but I put on Jumanji for my ds and his friend. They loved it. There's a new version coming out soon too, so slightly relevant.

Katedotness1963 · 04/11/2017 17:51

Isn't there a new Minions/Despicable Me?
Railway Children?

pinkliquorice · 04/11/2017 17:52

My nine year old DD’s (Girly girl) suggestions are
-Miss Congeniality
-Wild child
-The devil wears Prada
-The parent trap
-Mean Girls
-Just go with it
-Uptown Girls
-Confessions of a teenage drama queen
-legally blonde
-Beauty and the beast (and actually anything Disney!)

MsHarry · 04/11/2017 17:53

Definitely don't show a 12 cert. This has caused me awkward moments before where I've had to say my child won't be going.

millifiori · 04/11/2017 17:55

How about one of the age-appropriate films that were released about five to ten years ago, so they may not have seen them - like Alvin and the Chipmunks or Monsters v Aliens or Bee Movie?

Or a classic Studio Ghibli film like Kiki's Delivery Service or My Neighbour Totoro?

MsHarry · 04/11/2017 17:55

The new Cinderella is beautiful. Mr Bean on Holiday? Diary of a Wimpy Kid was loved by my 2 who had read the books.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 04/11/2017 17:55

I would get your daughters to write a list then get their friends to vote!
How come your DD's are watching 15 rated films ? Confused They are way to young!

milliemolliemou · 04/11/2017 17:57

I'd say Pitch Perfect while v funny has a few bits which may be not for 9/10 year olds. Parent Trap great providing not a source of angst for kids whose parents are divorcing/divorced.

MiddleAgedMinger · 04/11/2017 18:01

It's difficult as you'll always get a few saying they've already seen whatever you've chosen.

Do you have Sky where you can download something from Sky Store? If so I would get them all to agree when they get there.

The new Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella?
A Dog's Purpose?
The BFG?
Smurfs: lost Village?
Ballerina?

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 04/11/2017 18:03

I must be really uptight because there is no way I'd let my 9yo watch half the stuff on your daughters list Pink!

Mrmoonmrmoon · 04/11/2017 18:05

Descendants is a good choice
