Soon-to-be DH and I are getting married in September 2018. Current honeymoon ideas are;

Iceland (hot springs!)
Rome, Rhodes and Amalfi
Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius
Maldives (might be too expensive!)

We love culture, history, and sight seeing, want to relax a bit, but worried about getting bored somewhere isolated and beautiful.

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Help us with some more ideas please Smile

Budget fairly flexible, around £2,500

The mid two are tge budget options.

We went to Australia

HollyandBrambles · 04/11/2017 12:34

Look at Hayes & Jarvis website, we went to Singapore & Bali (amazing!) and it was only a tiny bit more than your budget

klaw87 · 04/11/2017 12:36

We went to the amalfi coast for our honeymoon and I can highly recommend! We had an amazing time and would go back in a heartbeat. We also visited Pompeii, Capri, Positano etc whilst there, it’s very easy to travel around by ferry in amalfi - also the train lines in Italy are very good so if you go elsewhere you can easily cover several places which is what we usually do - LOVE Italy. Don’t bother with a package holiday - the food in Italy is too good - just get yourself a base to stay and go from there :) happy honeymoon!

stayathomegardener · 04/11/2017 12:36

You can do the Maldives far cheaper than you expect.
PM me if you would like any info.

TheMadGardener · 04/11/2017 12:36

We went to Switzerland, based in Interlaken for a week, lots of walking in the beautiful mountains, up the Jungfrau by train, day trips by train to Berne, Lausanne (Olympic museum, paddling in Lake Geneva, Audrey Hepburn''s grave), Reichenbach Falls (Sherlock Holmes). Second week we spent at Lake Lucerne. It was lovely but we were lucky because my in-laws paid for our honeymoon.
I've done the Pompeii/Sorrento/Amalfi coast trip and that was great (cheaper than Switzerland). Austria is gorgeous. Salzburg area would be lovely for a honeymoon.

Orangebutterfly · 04/11/2017 12:37

Brazil
India(cheap when you get out there)
Hawaii
Peru
Ireland
Greek islands

juddyrockingcloggs · 04/11/2017 12:39

We went on a cruise! We flew to Acapulco, then went to Zijautanejo, hautulco, San Juan Del sur, through the Panama Canal and then cruised to some carribean islands. It was amazing!

I think wherever you pick will be fab anyway ‘cause it’s your honeymoon!

SilverySurfer · 04/11/2017 12:49

No contest - Venice.

Raeven · 04/11/2017 12:56

We went to Serbia and Montenegro. We timed the wedding so that we could go to the Exit festival and Sea Dance Festivals.. My first proper festival (I was 42) and plenty of time in Montenegro to lay in the sun, visit places and enjoy being newly weds. Not for everyone but we loved it so much we repeated the experience for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Smile

Spikeyball · 04/11/2017 13:00

Somewhere like Rome would be good if you don't want to drive. Paradores of Spain would be good but that would probably require driving.

Katedotness1963 · 04/11/2017 13:02

We just got back from Naples. We booked a couple of day trips at the airport to save driving in the area. We got a bus to Pompeii and Vesuvius for €18 per person (€13 entrance at Pompeii, €10 up to Vesuvius). A day trip to Capri, ferry and three course lunch was €60 each. They also had trips to Ercolano, Sorrento and Amalfi.

Tealdeal747 · 04/11/2017 13:02

Bored on honeymoon?

Surely all you need is a bed?

If you don't like the thought of 2 weeks alone with each other somewhere like the Maldives I don't know how your marriage will last!

Cyclewidow46 · 04/11/2017 13:02

We also went to Sri Lanka. We arranged to have a tour staying at different hotels for four nights in the middle of the fortnight with our own driver who also acted as a tour guide. We also had a base hotel where we stayed
at beginning and end of our stay.
There was so much to see with lots of history/ culture.

seventeenlittleducks · 04/11/2017 13:04

We went to Geneva lovely place all though very expensive for food etc. Travel around the city is included with your hotel though. Lake Geneva is amazing and you can take a cable car up the mountains in France if you cross over the border

pleasingone · 04/11/2017 13:08

Valencia, lots of culture, warm weather and also a beach if you do want to relax. Like Seville too!

Geegee4 · 04/11/2017 13:14

We flew into San Francisco, hired a car and stayed a few days in Napa and Sonoma- the wine region. We then spent 3-4 days driving down the Pacific coast highway (so beautiful) stopping at a few places en route, finishing with a couple days in LA...we loved it!

midnightmisssuki · 04/11/2017 13:17

Singapore - can do bali; thailand; HK while you are there.

Mexico - Tulum is stunning

America - We did Chicago, Vegas, LA, Hawaii and San Fran.

Mummyh2016 · 04/11/2017 13:17

We did New York and Vegas, it was amazing. We do love Rome though and it will still be hot in September.

HermioneKipper · 04/11/2017 13:26

Santorini. It's absolutely beautiful and plenty of culture too if that floats your boat

roconnell · 04/11/2017 13:29

flingingmelon that sounds amazing! That's how I imagined Iceland would be, love the cabin idea

Tealdeal747 it's not that we don't want 2 weeks alone together, just that we don't want to spend 2 weeks lying around when we could be exploring, doing activities and having fun. But then I don't have to justify my marriage or honeymoon to you Smile

I know this can be controversial, but if you're having guests, you could ask for something like trail finders vouchers for a present. My friend did this as they'd been together for 10 years and they had a minimoon in Greece and then a big honeymoon travelling around New Zealand and Australia:

www.trailfinders.com/services.nsf/giftlistFAQ?ReadForm

I know why some people won't like this idea, and not everyone wants their honeymoon as their wedding gift but as not everyone knows you can get this sort of voucher I thought I'd mention it!

niamhrado · 04/11/2017 13:38

Dubai? Lots to see and do there but also beautiful beaches.

DeltaG · 04/11/2017 13:48

We did a tour of S.America through Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. Finished with a Galapagos cruise. Was absolutely fantastic, but pricey and took nearly 2 months.

I second the suggestion of Switzerland - it is a beautiful country. I live here, on lake Geneva. Almost every day I think to myself how beautiful the place is. Great if you like lakes and mountains. Not cheap, but eminently do-able with your budget.

Do you have any climate considerations or weather expectations OP?

roconnell · 04/11/2017 13:52

DeltaG
Didn't consider Switzerland, will give that some thought! It looks beautiful. Your honeymoon sounds amazing.

No weather or climate considerations - really don't mind.

Because of not wanting to drive ourselves maybe a city would be better? Somewhere with good train/bus links. Can anyone recommend any lovely honeymoony cities?

OP posts:
Rebeccaslicker · 04/11/2017 13:54

Trains can be nice and part of the trip if you don't want to drive. E.g. The train from Madrid to Seville is lovely and scenic plus even first class is cheap as chips and includes all your food and booze. God i love Seville - it's so beautiful!
