hotmilkandcrunchynuts · 05/11/2017 13:10

Dear god, why would you eat that?!

Why wouldn't you eat that, is the question?

FannyWisdom · 05/11/2017 14:28

Pea wet is like Tom dip.
But on a chippy related sandwich instead of breakfast.

The juice but no bits so pea juice (from the mushys) or tomato juice from canned chopped.

I can't imagine what some of you folk are eating when you have a chippy. The whole point of a chippy is to toughen up arteries.
Really.

peoplepleaser70 · 05/11/2017 14:40

East Midlands here... and call them batter bits. When Nan used to send us chippy she would always tell us to ask for batter bits!

x2boys · 05/11/2017 15:13

I once had to ask for chips pea wet and scraps for a colleague when I was doing a chippy run Hmm we get scraps northwest but I also love chips and gravy and chips and curry sauce I can't understand why others wouldnt like themGrin

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/11/2017 15:44

Those of you who live in scrap free zones, have you asked for them?

After all, all chip shops will be producing scraps, it's just that some are throwing them away instead of giving them to customers.

They might not have much demand so won't keep some by (in our chip shops there is always a little pile in the corner of one of the warming counter sections) and they usually ask if you want scraps.

I don't usually get them because I will be getting fish and chips but when I was a child, you often just got chips and scraps, which is a lot cheaper, but getting scraps allowed you to get a taste of the batter, even if you didn't have any fish.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 05/11/2017 15:52

God Scraps... I used to smother them in vinegar and mix them up with ketchup. Disgusting but delicious. Can you not ask to buy some? I used to buy a portion for 50p when I was in my teens.

Unhomme · 05/11/2017 15:55

No scraps that I've found in Kent...

Always heard them as scraps (Lincolnshire) or bits (Durham) when growing up.

millifiori · 05/11/2017 15:56

Our local chippy used to give scraps free to kids who came in begging for them. We loved them.

BlueberryIce · 05/11/2017 20:30

Crikey. I didn’t know this was a thing. Each to their own, but it sounds vile to me 🤢

BroomstickOfLove · 05/11/2017 20:39

Scraps are lovely and not vile at all. Unlike picked eggs, which while not as bad as they sound, are still not something I would ever choose to eat.

MrsPworkingmummy · 05/11/2017 20:45

For those who don't know what 'scraps' (or 'batter' as I call it) are, here's a pic of some a friend of mine has just bought at a bonfire night display. I couldn't have my fish and chips without them.

Ah I loved getting scraps for free as a kid, then a little later for 10 or 20p! Brilliant stuff. I’m sure most chippies would do them if asked.

itusedtobeverydifferent · 06/11/2017 21:51

My scraps were from down south 👌

DrCoconut · 06/11/2017 22:15

My southern DH is appalled by scraps. They were a new thing when he left the south and moved to God's own county. He also struggles with the idea of a special (cheap meal with choice of peas, curry sauce or gravy). But cod roe he's ok with . Now that's one I've not seen round here. Who seriously prefers fish eggs to scraps? Confused

BLUESEAPARADISE · 06/11/2017 22:18

I love scraps!! We call them scrumps though!Halloween Shock
