Bacon. Tea. Cake.

Sounds horrific.

I live between London and the South Coast. They aren't available at any chippy I know of and it's a total bummer. I went out with someone from the Wirral for a few years and scrappins are the only thing I miss about him.

Ollivander84 · 03/11/2017 22:17

Teacake has fruit in it to me Grin
Many, many drunken arguments. I thought a cob was a horse but apparently that can also be bread Confused

Barabajagal · 03/11/2017 22:17

Mmm Cips ‘n Bits

Barabajagal · 03/11/2017 22:17

Chips obvs!

DontLetMeBeMisunderstood · 03/11/2017 22:17

I'm north east and we have always called it batter 'fish and chips with extra batter'. I always thought they were the bits that fell off the fish, rather than something they made specially. And a bun would be a chip stottie, but a stottie is a very specific type of bread, quite different from a bun/bap/barm - a chip stottie is the food of gods

Henrythehoover · 03/11/2017 22:20

Ew never heard of it before. Don't think they do it here in Surrey.

UrsulaPandress · 03/11/2017 22:22

Bread is the great divider.

I give you a bunny.

And sod yer scraps.

What about specials.

PutUpWithRain · 03/11/2017 22:24

Scraps in Norfolk. One chippy used to offer a scrap butty and ohmyfuckinggoodgod it was all I could do not to fall to my knees and promise to worship them forever after one mouthful of fried batter buttery soft white bread goodness.

I think a couple of stalls on Norwich market might still do them... and suddenly my weekend looks brighter.

HamSandWitches · 03/11/2017 22:24

Scottish did you use oil or beef fat, we use beef fat

NameChangeFamousFolk · 03/11/2017 22:25

Scraps are a bit Marmite, it seems.

I'll raise you a pig cake.

MustBeThin · 03/11/2017 22:26

Scraps in Yorkshire. Also we call baps/rolls/ barms.....breadcakes. Grin I thought they were breadcakes everywhere until I moved cities and nobody knew what I was talking about.

Another thing I miss from my home city....a proper Yorkshire fishcake! First time I asked for a fishcake here I got what we call a rissole. Still bloody bugs me that I can't buy I proper fishcake from any chippy.

HamSandWitches · 03/11/2017 22:27

Chip butty in the NE where I am but I like a ham and peas pudding stottie

footballcrazy11 · 03/11/2017 22:29

We call them scratchings, I want some now!

Candlelight234 · 03/11/2017 22:31

Scraps & Pea Wet on a barm. The food of Gods. Get over to the NW!

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/11/2017 22:31

Waves at fellow Yorkshire lass must. I will not get fish and chips outside Yorkshire because they're not as good anywhere else. Haddock, beef dripping, breadcakes, scraps, and proper fishcakes all the way.

BubbleLamp · 03/11/2017 22:32

Pea juice and crispy bits. That's what you want.

Candlelight234 · 03/11/2017 22:33

In fact I'll raise you, scraps, pea wet and a babby's 'yed.
Us northerners know how to do 'chippy tea'.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 03/11/2017 22:34

LOVE scraps. We called them 'crispies' where I grew up.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/11/2017 22:35

In the good old days when I was a bairn, we used to take newspapers the to fish and chip shop for them to wrap the chips in - we got a bag of batter with salt and vinegar as payment.

It was lovely!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/11/2017 22:36

East Midlands and never heard of them!

Viviennemary · 03/11/2017 22:36

Never heard of them. They sound awful. Sorry. Grin They must be a southern thing.

yorkshireyummymummy · 03/11/2017 22:36

Foxyloxy- I'm from Yorkshire too and we definatly call them scraps here. And nobody says barm, it's a bun. Bread bun. Yorkshire is a big place!
I'm amazed by the number of people in here who don't know what scraps are. I just thought they were an all over the country thing. I have no idea why they are regional, but probably because traditionally we are much poorer up here and nothing food wise would go to waste. Scraps have as far as I know never been a charagble item so they would be a good way to get calories for no cost when things were very tight on the money front.
And just so people who don't have them understand, they are not left in the fat. When the fryer is taking the fish out he will use his big scooper to ' trawl' the fryer of the tiny bits. These are generally put in the hot plate which also drains any excess fat off. They are very crispy, and taste delicious. But obviously a tad high on the calorie front.!!!

Rudedog · 03/11/2017 22:38

You could buy a bag of scraps for 5p when I was a lass..... (I think they are foul btw)

MustBeThin · 03/11/2017 22:40

Waves at Barb I love a bit on Hendo Relish on my meat and potato pie too Grin mmm, everything tastes better in Yorkshire.
