Remember that scene in Love Actually where wife finds necklace intended for mistress?

I hope this is light hearted and has funny ending!

It's a special occasion and by accident I found DH has recently (few weeks ago) ordered an expensive gift (the sort you only give to partners or close family) BUT, earlier he gave me a little gift and went on his way. I'm grateful of course but now wondering...

Will I get the gift later..... or should I worry?! He's not organised enough to be sorted now for Christmas and I can't think of any family occasions....

I would probably say: oh I’ve seen similar to the item in question in the shops the other day - so beautiful” and watch his face.

Do you remember the thread (referred to upthread I think) where OP had found a hidden Tiffany box before Xmas and was gutted not because she thought it was a gift to an OW, but because she knew that they were broke and DH really couldn’t afford to spend real money on jewellery for her.

In the end she found that it was a lovely personalised necklace that DH had picked up on behalf of her MIL and SIL who really wanted to treat her and show their love after a horrific year and parental bereavement. Makes me well up just thinking about it.

I can't bear that scene in Love Actually - partly because I don't like Emma Thompson as an actress and her character in that film is SO irritating.

She's so smug under the Christmas tree about opening one present and all "let me choose".

I'm aways delighted at how her smugness disappears. Kind of figure the character deserves it. I know this makes me evil!

Hope you have a happy outcome here OP and congratulations on whatever your special occassion is

THAT SCENE KILLS ME!!

Please please don't do this to me.

Genuinely brings me down for days.

It ruined Joni Mitchell for me too.

If you watch it doesn't appear in thread I'm on .

mogulfield · 03/11/2017 20:07

That’s one of the saddest scenes In any film ever! In fact for a jolly Xmas film there is quite a lot of sadness (mentally ill brother is another sad bit that gets, me and when the sister chins off her chance of love because of him).

KitKat1985 · 03/11/2017 20:15

I hope this all turns out to be innocent OP.

I was thinking this seemed familiar too @EvilRinguBitch - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2534156-To-feel-slightly-put-out-by-DHs-lovely-surprise

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2017 20:23

Dh did this in my birthday and it was because he was saving it for Christmas.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/11/2017 20:26

The only time that (then) DP got me a nice but a bit underwhelming present for my birthday he then proposed that night...

loveablether · 03/11/2017 20:29

Waiting...happy birthday 🍰 and I hope you get your ‘surprise’ x

KenAdams · 03/11/2017 20:35

How did the chocolate bar thread end? Was that really it?

FizzyGreenWater · 03/11/2017 20:35

The trouble with mentioning it is that if there's anything dodgy going on he'll just say it was for Christmas.

Anyway hope you have by now received a lovely gift!
