Christmas trees up in November???

Since when was this a thing? Suddenly an increasing number of people are putting up trees and decorations because it’s now early November? What?!! It is nowhere near Christmas. What is the point?

MsHopey, enjoy your tree. I hope you're better?

It's just judgmental nonsense. People do stuff all year round that I'd never do but I manage to restrain myself from pressing my beaky nose up against their windows and screeching "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD EASTENDERS ON A TUESDAY. DISCUUUUSSSTING".

Live and let live fgs.

BootHill · 03/11/2017 10:47

Ours is going up on the weekend. We always do it at the beginning of November. My kids love it, I love it and so does husband.

For me I don’t like the idea of putting it up a week before Christmas but that’s the choice of others so not my issue.

LostInTheTunnelOfGoats · 03/11/2017 10:55

It seems to be a new thing. I remember driving past a house with a tree in the window around the end of November, ten or fifteen years ago. I was with a group of friends and there was great awe and disgust at the sight Grin

Ours never goes up more than two weeks before. Though we should get the keys to our new house mid December this year, so I don't really know what to do

lottieandmia22 · 03/11/2017 11:01

I love Christmas too but putting up decorations doesn’t make it Christmas does it?

DryHeave · 03/11/2017 11:03

I'm 37 weeks pregnant. Mine's going up next week because I don't fancy doing it with a newborn (and can't bear the idea of NO CHRISTMAS TREE)!

lottieandmia22 · 03/11/2017 11:04

But people don’t just put them up in their homes they put flashing lights on their houses and big inflatable Santa’s 😂 it makes me anxious when we haven’t had bonfire night yet.

But don’t all the needles drop?? Confused

sunandmoonshine · 03/11/2017 11:07

Yep too early imo.

Shouldn't be any earlier than December the 1st. ANYwhere!

ThymeLord · 03/11/2017 11:08

I used to find this annoying i'll admit but, as i've got older, I find the winter months more and more miserable. I haven't got a tree up, nor "official" Christmas lights, but I do have fairy lights and twinkly things in mason jars all around my house. It just cheers me up!

puckingfixies · 03/11/2017 11:08

Timely, this just appeared in my newsfeed.

Where I live Waitrose don’t start selling trees til December. And the needles drop even in Two weeks of December. I’d have a bare tree if it went up now.

I would imagine the trees fall down themselves after 2 months. Ours looks a bit worse for wear after a week. All the chocolates eaten and the cat leaping into it every 5 minutes making the decorations drop off.

And yy to the needles, i couldn't put up with that.

JustaBasicBitch · 03/11/2017 11:14

I don't care what you think, DH has just given me the greenlight to put ours up on the weekend of 18/19th Grin

DS is so excited and keeps asking, it takes a weekend to trim up the downstairs and I'm away the following weekend.

The second is too late (and one of the DCs birthdays) as surely at least the fireplace needs to be done by time the advent calendars come out?

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2017 11:15

I am surprised they haven't started making advent calendars that start on the 1/11 TBH. Hmm

QueenInTheNorth26 · 03/11/2017 11:17

Mine go up the 15th November. I did it as a child for my mums birthday and my son was born on the same day so every year for his birthday we out the decorations up. It takes hours to do so I do t see the point in putting that much effort in for them only to be up a week

IceBearRocks · 03/11/2017 11:21

Most early decorators that I know take the tree down on boxing Day as they've had enough!

LagunaBubbles · 03/11/2017 11:22

This thread has inspired me, DH is off work this weekend and has to put all the Halloween decorations back up the loft, he can bring down the Christmas ones, that's his weekend sorted. We do the whole living room and hall like Santas Grotto, like you say Queen no point going to all that effort for a week. Not sure about the puzzlement of posters saying things like can you even get a tree, needles drop etc etc...not when its artificial it doesnt.

disneydatknee · 03/11/2017 11:23

I did once put the tree up in November. But my son was younger then and begged me until I gave in. I do love Christmas (and got all excited this morning when I saw Sainsbury’s has their Christmas stock out). But we don’t put up our tree until the first week of December usually. Then come the crafts and creative baked goods. But none of it happens until the tree is up.

upperlimit · 03/11/2017 11:24

Bagsy this for Dragon's Den.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 03/11/2017 11:35

Weeelllllllll - mine is up. But then that's because it's been up all year.
We were in the UK until end of January, and DH decided he CBA to take it down while we were away. So I let it ride for a couple of weeks while I got over jet lag, and then thought "Meh, it can stay up til Easter".
Easter came and went.
Then I though "meh, Christmas in July is a thing here, I'll leave it up til then". But we went back to the UK again in July, and then jet lag again.
Then it was August. Only 4m to go, REALLY not much point, might as well leave it up now.

Fits with the superstition that you should leave any Christmas decs up all year that aren't down by Twelfth night but y'know, just lazy really.

Saves me a job in December! We haven't had the lights switched on all year, so it will be a bit different when December comes.

misscheery · 03/11/2017 11:36

I fucking love Christmas, however I’ve never put the tree up/decorated before 20th of December. I don’t mind seeing the “Christmas spirit” in shops/malls/restaurants from November though.

misscheery · 03/11/2017 11:36

Also buy presents both in November and December but that’s due to budgeting so it’s easier for us

melj1213 · 03/11/2017 11:37

I think it's a bit early to start putting up the tree, but for me Christmas decorating is a process not just to be done in one day.

I am planning to spend one of my days off next week getting all the Christmas decorations down from the loft to go through them and sort the decorations we're going to use this year. We start putting out the Christmas bits and bobs out as and when they need changing in the next few weeks (eg next time the bedding needs changing I'll put on some winter themed bedding sets, when my current scented candles are finished I'll replace them with the Christmas ones etc) so I like to have a sort out early in November of what we're actually going to use. Also, since I have to put the box of Halloween stuff back up in the loft till next year, I might as well get all the Christmas stuff out at the same time, since I'm up there anyway.

Additionally, because DD is with her dad next week it means I can take my time going through all the Christmas stuff over a few days and if anything is worn out or broken I can just chuck it out without DD wanting to save everything just because it's "Christmas stuff" and because she has my hoarding tendencies . DD is back at my house the week after so we will spend the weekend of November 18th/19th putting up the decorations - the garland over the mantlepiece, the wreath on the porch door etc - before she goes to her dad's again. Then when she comes back for her first week with me in December, we'll probably put the tree up together.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2017 11:42

How about an all year round one upper? 365 doors.

Playmobil could sell one for £££££££££s. Grin

upperlimit · 03/11/2017 11:45

Oh yeah, all themed to the season, you could customise for birthdays. I'll let get my butler to send you a thank you card from my holiday home if it all works out Sparkling
