To think that people that drive diesel cars know that they're killing children

Diesel cars are destroying our towns and villages. The health effects on kids are particularly bad. People must know this by now. So AIBU to think that people who drive diesel cars know that they're killing kids (and everyone really)?

It's like smoking: it's not possible to smoke in public without affecting others' health. This seems to have been accepted by most people. What makes diesel different?

Diesel cars are destroying our towns and villages

Not the cities too? Wink

Anniegetyourgun · 01/11/2017 08:38

I did check out the "green" credentials before choosing the car I currently drive, which is not diesel, but I'm not kidding myself that it doesn't still pump out dangerous fumes. All energy generation based on burning/destroying a substance is going to have some negative effect. As has been pointed out already, it was only recently discovered that diesel is less environmentally friendly than petrol; before that we were positively encouraged to go diesel. (I never understood why, but then I'm not an engineer or a chemist.)

treaclesoda · 01/11/2017 08:38

My diesel car only costs £20 per year in tax, compared with my previous petrol one which cost £160. So it must be less polluting?

I wouldn't choose to buy a diesel car (I inherited mine from a deceased relative) but until recently people were being encouraged to buy them as a less polluting option.

HellonHeels · 01/11/2017 08:38

I'm thinking that poverty is probably killing more children than diesel.

What are you doing for the environment OP?

BrioAmio · 01/11/2017 08:38

I have a diesel Range Rover, when I pull up on the pavement to do the school drop off I make sure to take out a couple of extra kiddies under the wheels as well as with the exhaust😎 I just hate children.

HellonHeels · 01/11/2017 08:39

Will no one think of the kiddies?!

expatinscotland · 01/11/2017 08:39

Please, put down the glue, won't you think of the children?! Oh, and YABU.

ShatnersWig · 01/11/2017 08:40

Brio Perhaps insensitive in view of New York 12 hours ago.

BroomHandledMouser · 01/11/2017 08:40

I bought my diesel car PRECISELY for that reason op. You're totally right, maybe all diesel owner should go to jail?

What a twat you are

Sarahh2014 · 01/11/2017 08:40

Killing children?? Wow

Witsender · 01/11/2017 08:40

Buy me a new car then we can talk.

dieselKiller · 01/11/2017 08:41

I'm aware that the government said that diesel was "greener" and provided incentives. It's just not true though is it practically? I'm obvs BU if people still think it is true. Does anyone think so? Are people unaware of the health effects? Thanks for all the responses so far.

Over dramatic much

Ten thousand people a year die in London alone from air pollution.

Brio, doesn’t your goat balance things out by eating your lawn so you don’t have to get the petrol powered lawnmower out?

Think I’ll take the 737 round the village today, see how many children combust.

OP, unless you’re living off grid on your own vegetable patch and using the free WiFi while waiting for your horses to fuel up, you haven’t got a leg to stand on.

ShatnersWig · 01/11/2017 08:43

make Not solely caused by diesel

deepestdarkestperu · 01/11/2017 08:43

Hi Daily Fail Smile

blueskyinmarch · 01/11/2017 08:44

My DH and I both have diesel cars as they were being touted as being better at the time we bought them. When we change them we will buy petrol ones but for the moment I will continue to kill children. Hmm

poddige · 01/11/2017 08:44

How do you get around OP?

TabbyMumz · 01/11/2017 08:44

How are they destroying towns and villages? Odd? Confused

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/11/2017 08:44

diesel

Of course people know now that they are not good for the environment or health

Where do you think people have the money to buy a new car at the drop of a hat

treaclesoda · 01/11/2017 08:44

It's not that people think it's true that diesel is less polluting, it's that if you have bought a car within the past few years you might well not be in a financial position to replace it.

OP still waiting for an answer from you to this....

I take it you don't have any children OP, only drive a wholly electric car (not a hybrid), recycling everything you possibly can, grow your own veg and keep chickens for eggs and a cow for milk to minimise food miles?

dieselKiller · 01/11/2017 08:46

The responses saying I'm being dramatic are really interesting. Presumably you actually don't see the connection between pollution and people dying? In which case I am BU to expect people to see that diesel is killing people.
