AIBU Not to understand how on earth I could ever afford to be signed off work?

Long story short- posted yesterday about needing to leave work because I can't cope.
Had lots of lovely responses advising to get myself signed off work.
Thought more about this today, and stupidly finally realised I can't afford it.
SSP is only £89 per week?!
That won't even start to cover bills.
How on earth do I deal with this?
Can't take time off, can't continue like this. Willing every day away, crying on the way to/from work and in the toilets multiple times every day.
How does anyone afford time off of work?!
Please no nasties- could do with friendly advice not criticism.

I realise this may be an obvious question, but could you look for a different job? Even if it didn't pay as well be better than SSP.

Check your contract some companies top up your ssp to your full pay for a certain period of time. It’ll be at managers discretion but if you otherwise have a good attendance record and relationship with your boss if it’s something your company does you will likely get it. You sound very stressed op and you do sound like you would benefit from a break.

Failing this could you book some annual leave?

Do you not get sick pay from your company -although I'm assuming not based on your post? Tbh, more info is needed before you can get any proper advice; is it your job in particular getting you down or something else? Can you look for another job/move to a different department? Do you have an HR department/LM that you could talk to or does your company have any helplines for people struggling?

I do sympathise. I am amazed that so many companies don't pay sick pay and employees only get statutory. Obviously you can't carry on like this. Have you got a partner or children to support financially or are you on your own? In the long term another job would be the best way forward with better conditions. But until then not sure what to suggest.
