Aibu to think if there is a toilet there should be a baby change station..

We visited a new local cafe (it’s a restaurant / bar in the evening) yesterday lunchtime, it has about 10 or so good sized tables, and has a few high chairs too.

We noticed it didn’t have a baby change in the toilet (there was only one very small non gendered toilet) so enquired (for future reference if baby needs changing if we’re out) whether they had one & were told no unfortunately not.

Aibu to think if you have a cafe with a toilet / highchairs you should try make space for a baby change area?
It was a reasonable sized cafe & not completely tiny.

Or aibu to wonder what you do in the situation if baby needs changing & there isn’t a baby change table?
I don’t really want to start having to change baby on the cramped toilet floor. There isn’t any public toilets near by either.
I’m not one for changing babies at the table either.

It was a lovely cafe & we’ll definitely go back.. but this is a bit off putting.

Is this a problem that other people have come across?

There was a thread about this recently. Before my children could stand I’d do it on my knee, when they could stand I’d do it with them standing up.

You can lay you change mat on your knee and do it that way.

I think there needs to be a door between and food prep/eating areas and baby changes because of obvious contamination issues. And if there isn't room in the toilet that means there's not much they can do. It's one of these things which is nice if they can, but there's no obligation. Ask before you order if you would prefer not to use those without.

I agree OP. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult or expensive for places to install a foldaway changing table in the loos.
Also popping the changing mat on your knee isn't always an easy option. A few weeks ago, myself and DM were having lunch at a really old (think 15th century) pub with DS in tow. Absolutely gorgeous building and lovely food but the tiny bathroom was less than brilliant when DS decided to have the WORST poonami I have ever encountered! Trying to balance a wriggly 4 month old on my knee, while cleaning up a very shitty bum/legs/tummy/back and trying to prevent any of it getting on the floor or walls, is an experience I wish I never have to go through again (
