I've been up all night, he knows why can't he get up

My sinuses have gone to hell. I’ve had a cold for 9 days and last night the sinus headache hit. I actually considered pulling my teeth out with pliers even though I know it’s my sinuses. I googled pressure point, Neti pots etc. If I could have driven somewhere to buy something I would have. I was coughing all night and blowing my nose all night. Don’t even get me started on the clocks changing. Anyway up rolls 6am and DD (13months) wakes and I’m already awake waiting for DH to rouse. When he does I explain I’m on deaths door (exaggeration I know) and haven’t slept. His immediate response is “I haven’t slept and I’ve a sore head”. I swear I went batshit crazy!!! I watched him sleep all night bHe never lets me be unwell without him telling me he’s not well also. I don’t think he even realises it.

On to the AIBU bit. DH does have MS and does suffer, not majorly and for that we are extremely lucky but there are times where it is bad. I make sure he eats, sleeps, takes medication and that DD and DSS give him piece. AIBU for just a little sympathy for a killer cold when he has an incurable disease? I’d take a patronising “there there” a lemsip, anything. He’s now up with DD but I had to guilt him a little. I’m now trying weird pressure points on my face. Argh

If you don’t have a neti you can use a glass of lukewarm water with salt and a straw. Block one side and inhale. You will gag and choke and it burns but it does work, especially after sleep when the congestion has settled.

BackBoiler · 30/10/2017 09:38

My DH is crap in the mornings, my DD is also like this! However on the rare occasion I am ill I say so and he just gets on with it. I have an op in a couple of weeks and he will have to do EVERYTHING in the first couple of weeks. Granted he is taking a fortnight off to care for me but I think I will be sleeping, drinking tea and watching movies in bed!

You may find the recently published NICE guidelines about treating acute sinusitis interesting - mostly advice about managing pain & limited value of antibiotics. Eventually this will filter through to GPs etc as recommended treatment protocols.

Pathetic to hear a barrage of "not all men" excuses. The truth is that males generally do not give a shit when faced with a situation that calls for them to put someone other than themselves first

No what is pathetic is someone stereotyping bad behaviour in half the population just because they've been born with a penis! Maybe this applies to all the men you have encountered, and if so I think youre meeting the wrong type of men!

NICE sunus treatment guidelines

Information for the public
Sinusitis: do I need antibiotics?

Sinusitis is a common infection after a cold or flu and is usually caused by a virus. Symptoms include pain around the eyes or cheeks, a blocked nose, headaches and a temperature. People usually get better within 2 to 3 weeks without antibiotics.

Using antibiotics when they are not needed means they may not work as well in the future. This is a serious health risk so NICE has written advice about when to offer antibiotics for some common conditions.

Most people with sinusitis won’t be offered antibiotics because:

Your sinusitis will normally get better within 2 to 3 weeks whether you take antibiotics or not.
Only about 10 out of every 100 people with sinusitis benefit from an antibiotic and the benefit is small.
The chances of an antibiotic helping your symptoms are about the same as your chances of getting side effects like nausea and diarrhoea.
Talk to your local pharmacist about other ways to help with symptoms, such as taking painkillers. You may like to try nasal decongestants or cleaning the inside of your nose with saline solution, although not enough research has been done to prove that these treatments work.

You will be prescribed antibiotics if you need them, such as if you are very unwell or are at risk of complications. In some cases the prescriber may talk to you about a back-up antibiotic prescription. You can use this to get an antibiotic if you don’t start to feel better after a few more days, or start to feel worse.

So I’ve been taking pain killers, olbas oil steam inhalations and the NeilMed rinses and nothing. I think it’s actually gotten worse. My jaw is in agony and my eyes are puffy and sore. The pain killers aren’t touching the pain 😞

DH has been a lot better and more sympathetic which is nice.

I didn’t see a doctor today as is a sinus infection and I’m trying to ride it out but I’m on 3 days with no proper sleep and I don’t want to murder anyone so I think I’ll see him tomo. Not that I think he can help. Stupid sinuses.

Otrivine?

Not the sinusitis one but the congestion relief. I think it's pretty good. Much better than sinutab.

FoxyRoxy · 30/10/2017 22:36

Last time I had sinusitis the extra strength airwaves chewies helped me a bit, I'd chew 2 at a time but it did give relief for a short time. Hope you feel better soon OP

FoxyRoxy · 30/10/2017 22:37

Oh also to answer your op yanbu but you know that!

Squeegle · 01/11/2017 06:54

Have you been to the GP yet? If an infection you will need help to fight it?

MistressDeeCee · 01/11/2017 07:00

No all men do not do this - if I'm unwell OH looks after me, and vice versa. I cannot abide competitive men - you're Ill, so they're Ill. You're tired, so they're tired. Their automatic response is dismissal of your feelings, they're not listening to you at all because they don't want to. Tell him to have some consideration and stop bloody competing, it's counter-productive. If you're too Ill to function then he helps, that's it

UniversalAunt · 01/11/2017 12:50

Completely, it sounds like you have tried everything over the counter & to hand to no or little avail. Time to see your GP for some industrial strength medication ?

I hope you soon feel better.

Chipsahoy · 01/11/2017 13:20

Steam isn't great for sinusitis. Netti pot only helps before and after I find. Once it's set in, it only serves to cause an excruciating headache.

Worth seeing by the go though. Last time I went twice, the second time, they have me antibiotics and I was feeling well within 24hrs. I get that we shouldn't over use them, but when you are vomiting from the pain and you've had it for 2 weeks and it's getting worse and your snot smells rancid and you are bringing up green stuff constantly, it's time for some help.

SusannahL · 01/11/2017 13:31

These may have already been mentioned OP but try Sudafed or Actifed.

I'm pretty sure they are decongestants for the sinuses, but a pharmacist would be able to advise.

It's a horrible pain - you have my sympathies!

Ancientmummyofwooooos · 01/11/2017 15:11

Hugest sympathies- Flowers after a lifetime of frequent sinus infections and two years of chronic sinusitis, resulting in surgery in july, i can honestly say i really feel for you, and my OH does this too!! Its like im not allowed to be unwell or even just have an off day, as he is much worse! Hmm also, Sterimar spray used every few hours to break down the yuck and encourage it out- very gentle and kept me on top of it! Coupled with nice hot lemsips and steam inhailation to loosen things up, all the best x

CompletelyUnknown · 01/11/2017 15:17

Well I didn’t go to the doctor as the pain stopped. The snot is lingering but a new joy arrived. The cough!!! I haven’t slept. DH escaped about midnight to the living room as he gets up at 4am. DD awake at 0530 so I’m a zombie.

I do firmly believe I’m in the other side of this and have appreciated everyone’s support. I do really enjoy the sinus rinses and watching all the gloop being removed from my nose. It’s strangely satisfying.

I’m trying to convince DD to nap but I’m afraid she has caught this dreaded lurgie from me and I’m in for a whole other world of pain 😞
