Are 14 inch calves huge?

I'm 5'2" and my calves are 14 inches. I'm a size 10 and I walk a lot and swim, and I think I look in proportion! I'm trying to find some knee boots and everything I've tried on is too tight or won't zip up. (I'm a shoe size 6). Yet I do have a pair of knee boots from the 70s from my mum, who was about my size then, that fit fine! Do I have giant calves or is everything now made for women with legs about the size of a ten year old?

You just made me measure my calves they're 14" I'm 5ft 8 and got long limbs. I've never had a problem with boots being to tight but they have been to big.
I wonder if it's to do with height so the widest point on my calf will hit the boots in a different spot to you?
I've started to have the mindset that clothes should fit me and there's something wrong with them if they don't, instead of there must be something wrong with me if I don't fit this.

I have the same size calves and recently bought these in the Tu sale - they do them in extra wide as well, but I found the regular size fitted fine. They have them in black too.

I'm not about to start the big tape measure search but like another poster I get mine from Evans. I have had one pair for about 15 years so can vouch for the quality.

Would never have thought about measuring my calves before!

Just done mine and they're 16 inches. I've never ever had trouble finding knee high boots though which is strange.

sickoffamilydrama I think your theory might be right.

Your calves aren’t too big. It’s the fact that you’re fairly short and boots seem to be made for taller people. Have a look at dr marten Charla boots ( though I’ve a feeling they’re not making them this year but you can see on eBay) I’m shirt and calves are 13 and half. These boots come almost to knee high and fit around the calf

I just measured mine. They are 14” which probably explains why I can’t get knee high boots to zip up! I’m a size 5 shoe, 5’ 4” tall and 9 1/2 stone (wear a 10/12). It’s so frustrating that I can’t get boots to fit!

I’m 5,4” and I’ve got 14” calves. My knee boots (Jones and Fly) are snug fitting but fine. I’ve never had a problem getting them to fit. I think that it may be to do with precise leg length and where the boot sits on your calf bulge. Agree that you might want to look at boots from the children’s department to see if the proportions work better.

Just went to measure as I've had problems before. My calves are 15inches. I'm just shy of 5ft 8 and a size 10-12. I can recommend Hobbs but it often depends on the style of the boot!

I'd honestly never thought it might be down to my height before! That does make sense though.

I don't think I have large calves, they don't look big, but they must be big as I struggle to get longer boots that fit. I have two pairs of the same style of boot from Clarks. The normal calf width does zip up, but it's tight and I worry it will split with prolonged wear, so I don't. The wide fitting calf are huge on me, they feel like big flappy wellies and I feel stupid wearing them, so I don't.

Scared to measure my calves now tbh! I’ve got footballer’s legs at the best of times, though at the moment (not having lost the summer holiday weight yet) I look more like a rugby forward Confused
I have definitely noticed that when I’m bigger my boots don’t fit and they’re a good indicator of weight that creeps on slowly. I’m one of those people who gains weight all over, not juts in one particular area, so it’s harder to notice when I’m getting fat!

off to measure legs now

I am exactly the same height and size as you, same inside leg and calf width.

I have a pair of brown knee-highs from Clarks. I've never had a problem zipping them up, but they are quite a few years old now. I'd like a black pair too, but I can foresee trouble with that now...

Op I have similar proportions to you and have managed to get boots from both Dune and m&s.

Dune I had to try on a few pairs and specifically look for ones with an elasticated extender on them which I think m&s have on all their boots. The dune ones were a bit neat at first but the leather did stretch a little.

Try Evans - they do wide fittings in boots / shoes etc

A male friend once told me admiringly I had 'footballer's calves'. I have never been able to do up knee high boots Blush

Could it be it's a length thing rather than a width thing? i.e. the height of the boots mean they're coming up to a height on you where you're calf is wider but wouldn't on someone taller with the same size calves.

I've just measured my calves and they're 14" and I've never had a problem with getting boots to fit on the leg and I'm a size 5

I have giant calves -17.5 inches.
Duo boots fit, but as someone said upthread, not amazing quality for the price. DMs - the fashion range not the workwear based boots. I’ve had some Clark’s in the past with an elastic panel at the back. They fitted well, but I didn’t really like them. Think they were called Orinoco Jazz.

BUT my best success has been Fly London Mes boots. They are cut away at the back and sit neatly under my bulgy calf muscles. I love them!

Have a look at dr marten Charla boots

Amazing boots, comfy waterproof and last years, I'm looking for a new pair. I'm similar proportions OP and always go for mid calf as the Charla's are described, I think they're more flattering on short muscular legs.

5’2” and size 5.5 feet. 17 inch calves Blush

I have problems with boots and wellies.

When you have size 5/6 feet the assumption is that you are average height and the widest part of the boot is placed accordingly. I’ve ordered from Duo (or whatever they are called these days) and even with the correct calf measurement the boot doesn’t fit. At 14” I would say a high street mid-height boot would be findable.

At my horrific size of calf I have one pair of Clarks/goretex boots and have to make do.

I can recommend Hunter mid-height wellies. After managing without any for 15 years I bought these and they make the outdoors a joy once more!

Mine are 14 inches and I'm 5'4", though unlike you OP not a size 10. Mine are quite muscular, I do lots of swimming and walking.
I don't buy high boots a lot, my last pair came from Tesco about 3 years ago. Not only could I zip them up I could also tuck my jeans in.
Also had quite a few pairs of ugg style boots, they come up to a few inches below the knee, they went on really easily.

Try 17" calves...😯
I got a pair from duo about 20 years ago. Over £100
Evans...fitted the calves far too wide on the foot...my feet are standard width ive just got huge calves.
Lipsy from tk maxx. Lovely. Perfect. Leather. £60. Cat shat all over them.
Latest pair from deichman.leather black knee high 60 but reliant on the back half having elastic panels. Side zip. Theyre great.
I did try on a beautiful ellie goulding knee high stretch lace up boot (soft suedish material). But i was too fat by about an inch.

So those lovely boots would easily fit you.
