My wife has had her pip reassessment reduced because of one point.

Her condition hasn’t changed one bit, we have letters from various professionals stating this. Some assessor that knows jack about her condition has stated she has no problems with communication at all because she ‘sounded intelligent’ (yes, that is written in the reply letter, apparently you can’t have autism if you sound intelligent)

You can’t even get a diagnosis of autism without some glaring problems with communication.

Sorry, just needed to vent. Can’t do it at home as dw is stressed enough as it is. I’ve been trying to get her to stop adding up how much this is going to affect us. Dd has been diagnosed with autism too, I just feel terrified for them both in the future.

I’ve called up for a mandatory reconsideration, I am fairly certain we’ve got enough evidence to win a tribunal. This system just seems to be designed to stress us as much as possible, it’s wrong.

Oh I know that the assessments are pretty much all the DWP go on most of the time. What I find odd though, is that the assessment alone would be enough to grant an enhanced award with no other 'proof'.

Meaning, I can well believe that the assessments are enough to deny claims even when other evidence is presented. But it seems pretty odd (especially for the DWP) for this to work the other way around.

When I had my last assessment the lady who did it was at pains to let me know that its not actually her who makes the decision. Its apparently the decision maker at the DWP, not the HCP. So someone with no medical background at all. I did end up getting support group, which I was quite shocked by mind. Was sure that would be a further tribunal

The evidence was not a problem, as I do have a genuine health complaint for which I am under a variety of specialists and on very strong meds.

To be fair. Most people have a genuine health complaint but it's how those health complaints affect you. I.e arthritis and struggle around the house. DA says you're fine. Then provide evidence of it at MR. I.e OTs report of adaptations you needed around the house.

Ah that's for ESA though HornyTortoise. I've found that ESA seems to be coming a lot more balanced since Maximus took over most of the tender. Although that shit ahout 'claimant not rocking so clearly no mental health problems' seriously needs burning scrapping from both ESA and PIP.

Ewan. Oh bother I can’t remember how to link an individual. Brave post, lovely post. Have a hug. Xx

I am going to catch up properly when I get time later.

You know what inwas saying about the possibility of the DWP being fined/ charged for every case it loses. (I think they should go further smd charge the assessment company too given their 'assessments bear that much weight'. Look what happened earlier.

I think of all the morality in the world, there's evil.
This is what I think, the problem's a medical problem and I don't think it ever goes away because doctors don't have a cure, curing you will send them out of business, they want you to spend a lifetime being sick, you're powerless against doctors.

Do you still get pip whilst appealing etc

janj2301 · 02/11/2022 07:19

It took us 2 years to get PIP for my daughter, the assessors blatantly lied. My husband insists now on all assessments being recorded then pays £60 to a company to transcribe them. We are of the opinion that ATOS or what ever name they are going by now are on a bonus to FAIL claimants.

Were you making your name true when you posted?

If only medical science had reached the point where doctors could cure everything but chose not to in order to stay in business. Sadly we're a long, long way off.

SerendipityJane · 02/11/2022 07:48

Ajl you need to know is there's no online application process. You have to complete a written form.

feelthebeatfromthetangerine · 02/11/2022 10:25

I don't understand why PIP assessments aren't effectively made by the individual's health team. I do understand the need for standard questions, but the answers should be assessed by a medical professional who understands the condition and the person and has the discretion to weight some of the answers if appropriate.

It should just be a simple admin case then of processing the forms. Rather than pay 'assesors' to not assess properly, why not pay a fee to someone who actually gets it?

I wouldn't expect a layperson, no matter how competent they are, to be able to assess someone's health in the same way as someone who actually went to med school.

But does she have a condition that makes budgeting difficult or an illness like bi-polar where she can go on manic spending sprees? Otherwise anyone can run up credit card debts ?
