To report her to ASDA Customer Services?

BlueButTrue · 26/10/2017 14:38

On Sunday, I was doing a quick shop at about 3.30.

I was in the shop for all of two minutes before a tannoy (I think that’s how you spell it?), announcement declared there were sandwiches between 6p and 10p at the customer service till.

I took a swift walk down with my trolley, only to find everything on a smaller version of one of those bread trolleys supermarkets have.

I went to have a look at first (didn’t touch), and the ASDA lady standing there said “Can I help you?” I said just looking and she was all Hmm

I went to pick up a sandwich and it was snatched away, with her saying “Excuse me! That’s mine thank you. I’ve already paid for them all, hands off” with a very intimidating smile.

I’m 37 weeks pregnant, took this to heart and felt myself go hot with embarrasmenf as I walked away Blush

AIBU to expect better customer service and report the incident to customer services?

I still feel quite silly over it. She was in full uniform and as I was getting bread, I saw her wheel the trolley into the back room! Implying she wasn’t off her shift yet even.

20 sandwiches would go off before they could be eaten. Confused
I wonder if she has 8 kids at home!

Ollivander84 · 26/10/2017 18:09

Well it's shit customer service. You can't make an announcement that sandwiches are reduced but sorry you can't buy them Confused
I would complain on the grounds that they shouldn't have announced it unless the sandwiches were actually for sale to customers

kali110 · 26/10/2017 18:13

Was she actually working though?
How do you know she hadnt finished and was buying them?
Workers can also be customers, and are allowed any perks..

Chestnut24 · 26/10/2017 18:13

I suspect she is a rogue employee. I wonder what else she is drastically reducing and pocketing..? I would definitely report!

MontytheSpookyMouse · 26/10/2017 18:17

I used to work at Asda and this wouldn't be allowed unless she had finished her shift and picked them up and taken them to a till like any other customer. We weren't even allowed to buy in date food that was going in the bin.

From memory Asda's wages weren't shit but they were shit to work for. My interview for a shelf stacker involved having to make up and present a full advertisement song for a product :s

Our line manager was a total twat and wouldn't let us talk while working on the aisles at all and you were meant to work in silence and I know a lady who had epilepsy and shunts on her brain (think that's right word) who was made to make up time after she was rushed to hospital. (She died not long after)

They also wrongly accused someone of stealing a lot of money and treated him really really badly even when it was found he was innocent.

Are you implying she's reducing stuff she shouldn't be? There was an announcement about sandwiches so i don't think she was reducing something she shouldn't have been.

Shock that's awful!
We don't know if she was buying them after work though.

Ollivander84 · 26/10/2017 18:20

TBF Asda can be a bit odd

To picture the scene, I was dressed head to toe in dark green with massive NHS logos/ambulance logos all over me
A woman comes up to me and asks where the sugar is. I said "I don't work here but I think it's a couple of aisles down"
She proceeds to have a complete strop at me about "if you're impersonating an Asda employee, the least you could do is actually do your job, and I'm going to complain to the management, this is awful service"
My face was ConfusedHmmShock as she stalked off up the aisle

Idontevencareanymore · 26/10/2017 18:28

Yanbu.

But complaining is probably pointless. 3 times I've had bad experiences at asda, twice I was reduced to tears because of someone literally screaming at me for something and the last was the self service operator didnt want to give me a bag 😂 then screwed my receipt up before I could grab it and then security stopped me!

Asda replied that all our staff are trained to the highest level in service basically I'm lying and they'd never do this stuff.
I loathe asda with a passion.

AnyFarrahFowler · 26/10/2017 18:39

Shit customer service, I’m sorry you experienced this.
It’s easy to think what you would’ve said after the event, but I often find a shocked face and a “who on earth do you think you’re speaking to like that?!” comes naturally to me Grin

I’m another one who hates Asda. I was in my local one 2 weeks ago picking up a prescription (only thing I’ll use them for as it’s the closest pharmacy to me) and the fire alarm went off. Staff just stood about looking at each other, not knowing what to do at all. Shocking.

pastabakewithcheese · 26/10/2017 18:51

Tweet them for a faster response, they'll escalate it with the store directly or take the feedback on board

Birdsgottafly · 26/10/2017 19:01

"20 sandwiches would go off before they could be eaten."

Some people freeze them.

"I suspect it's as much a case of being low paid and not treated very well so care a lot less about how much effort you put into doing your job"

And that makes a shit environment for everyone else who is on low pay, but want to work there (rather than be unemployed). Everyone celebrates when they leave/get sacked.

I was in Asda two days ago, the man who was on the tills had disgusting hands and nails and was very unkempt, it was like they'd dragged a homeless guy in to do a shift. I don't know what the hell is going on, Asda isn't considered a bad job, in my region.

LikeARedBalloon · 26/10/2017 19:50

Our asda does the same with the reduced doughnuts and cookies...drives my husband mad! He got in a bit of a situation with one member of staff you put the whole trolley of cookies aside for herself and wouldn't hand over 1 pack for him! Blush

Wishingandwaiting · 26/10/2017 19:59

Asda really does go to show how important staff is.

Marks and Spencer’s, Waitrose.... superb. Staff look presentable without exception and will go out of their way to help you.

Sainsburys.... staff generally look presentable (there are exceptions) and staff in the main will help you.

Tesco... to a lesser extent than Sainsbury

Asda. In the gutter. The exception is a presentable friendly helpful member of staff. That’s the exception.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/10/2017 20:12

Definitely report her, and as well as phoning customer service call head office. I'm sure Mr/Mrs Adsa will want to know that their staff are stopping their customers from spending money.

LineysRun · 26/10/2017 20:22

My Asda's new 'Scan and Go' service is something of a local joke now. 'Scan and Slow' it's known as. Everything keeps breaking down, there's no staff paying attention to authorise sales of e.g. alcohol most days, and I know more about the staff's private lives from overhearing their conversations than I really want to.

Interestingly, never a glimpse of management in the store.

And don't get me started on their greeting card 'selection'. I'd rather sign my name on the back of an old bus ticket, it'd be more attractive and current.

BlueButTrue · 26/10/2017 22:31

And LOL that she'd wheeled up a store trolly to cart everything off. **

Are you sure you're not exaggerating a teensy bit, OP?

No! That’s why I thought it was all up for grabs, because it was on one of the shops trolleys they use for display Blush

She worked silently and without complaint, though her bones creaked and protested at the toil, and her hands became red and rough with the harsh labour. From the first light of dawn, on to when the stars pierced the black sky, she stacked and sold; sold and priced and stacked. But her heart raced, and a shadow of joy swiftly crossed her face as she heard the tannoy announce: "Reduced sandwiches on Aisle 4".

Like a cat she raced to the loading bay and selected a trolley, over to Aisle 4 she ran, weaving deftly through the shoppers. Swiftly, she stacked her trolly, and then breathlessly - risking sacking if she was caught - out to the back of Asa with her load, where the pitiful homeless clustered - famished and faint - waiting for the one they called 'The Angel of Asda.'

God Bless you, Angel," they whispered, as they took the sandwiches from her - almost too weak with emotion and hunger to utter their gratitude - their hands trembling and eyes limpid and glowing with unshed tears

Oh ffs 😂

crazycatgal · 26/10/2017 22:52

I would put in a complaint. I've worked in retail customer service myself so don't put up with bad service because there's no reason for it.

JessieMcJessie · 26/10/2017 22:58

I'd definitely complain! How weird and rude.

emmyrose2000 · 27/10/2017 08:05

I'm wondering how she even had time to pay. I didn't think shop staff could have money on them during a shift. (At least that's what I've been told by people working in large shops here). I'd be querying that, because I suspect she lied about having already done so in which case she has no more entitlement to those sandwiches than anyone else.

TitaniasCloset · 28/10/2017 22:30

What happened OP? Did you report her?

Holland00 · 28/10/2017 22:39

I'm also curious to know the outcome

BlueButTrue · 28/10/2017 22:47

I reported her via email. I did it when Titanias bumped the thread.

Oh and I’m having contractions so it may be more strongly worded than needed Grin
