To report her to ASDA Customer Services?

BlueButTrue · 26/10/2017 14:38

On Sunday, I was doing a quick shop at about 3.30.

I was in the shop for all of two minutes before a tannoy (I think that’s how you spell it?), announcement declared there were sandwiches between 6p and 10p at the customer service till.

I took a swift walk down with my trolley, only to find everything on a smaller version of one of those bread trolleys supermarkets have.

I went to have a look at first (didn’t touch), and the ASDA lady standing there said “Can I help you?” I said just looking and she was all Hmm

I went to pick up a sandwich and it was snatched away, with her saying “Excuse me! That’s mine thank you. I’ve already paid for them all, hands off” with a very intimidating smile.

I’m 37 weeks pregnant, took this to heart and felt myself go hot with embarrasmenf as I walked away Blush

AIBU to expect better customer service and report the incident to customer services?

I still feel quite silly over it. She was in full uniform and as I was getting bread, I saw her wheel the trolley into the back room! Implying she wasn’t off her shift yet even.

It's sad that Asda pay their staff so little that they have to fight with customers for reduced food. Sad

Actually, I doubt that's the case at all. I also doubt she's giving it to the homeless.

It's not OK for anyone to grab all the reductions!!

I'd probably report. You don't know her name, so I doubt that she'll lose her job. There will just be a general reminder that staff can't grab all the reductions. And you might indeed get a voucher.

thecatfromjapan · 26/10/2017 15:10

And LOL that she'd wheeled up a store trolly to cart everything off. Grin

Are you sure you're not exaggerating a teensy bit, OP?

CW1805 · 26/10/2017 15:14

You can report her for her attitude, that's out of order and needs to be addressed. She won't get sacked unless this has happened numerous times previously. However, if she wants to buy 20 sandwiches then she is allowed. A paying customer is a paying customer.

RhiannonOHara · 26/10/2017 15:15

Report for her rude behaviour and attitude.

thecatfromjapan · 26/10/2017 15:22

I'm sorry but I'm still LOLing at 'The Saint of Asda':

"She worked silently and without complaint, though her bones creaked and protested at the toil, and her hands became red and rough with the harsh labour. From the first light of dawn, on to when the stars pierced the black sky, she stacked and sold; sold and priced and stacked. But her heart raced, and a shadow of joy swiftly crossed her face as she heard the tannoy announce: "Reduced sandwiches on Aisle 4".

Like a cat she raced to the loading bay and selected a trolley, over to Aisle 4 she ran, weaving deftly through the shoppers. Swiftly, she stacked her trolly, and then breathlessly - risking sacking if she was caught - out to the back of Asa with her load, where the pitiful homeless clustered - famished and faint - waiting for the one they called 'The Angel of Asda.'

"God Bless you, Angel," they whispered, as they took the sandwiches from her - almost too weak with emotion and hunger to utter their gratitude - their hands trembling and eyes limpid and glowing with unshed tears.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/10/2017 15:28

Not acceptable at all, IMO. I'd certainly say something.

Not so bad, but recently while about to queue at the Asda checkout, I heard an elderly man ask where the Dijon mustard was, he couldn't find it.
The staff member he asked said sorry, they didn't stock it any more.

Unable to believe this, I went to the right aisle and found THREE brands of Dijon mustard, right at eye level. Went and told the old chap PDQ.

Whether she a) genuinely thought that was the case, b) didn't know what Dijon mustard was, or c) just CBA, I thought it was piss poor and quite unlike their usual service - staff will usually offer to show you in person.

GabsAlot · 26/10/2017 15:36

of cours your nbu

my dsis usd towork in sainsburys thir policy u had to hav finished your shift before being allowed to buy products-dont know about th whole lot though i doubt it

TuckersBadLuck · 26/10/2017 15:37

Personally I'd be complaining that they were selling sandwiches that had been stored at ambient temperature.

Tenroundswithmiketyson · 26/10/2017 15:43

They are allowed to leave them out for up to 30 minutes

Humphriescushion · 26/10/2017 15:44

THank you thecatfromjapan - that made me laugh! Grin.

TitaniasCloset · 26/10/2017 15:45

GrinGrinGrin catfromjapan!

InsomniacAnonymous · 26/10/2017 15:47

Wow! Who knew that Japanese cats could be such good writers?

Sparklingbrook · 26/10/2017 15:49

Re the ambient thing IIRC chilled can be out of the fridge for half an hour and on a Sunday Asda would be shutting at 4pm.

Christmastree43 · 26/10/2017 16:01

thecat 😂😂😂 That is fab thank you so much for the laugh!

Rachie1973 · 26/10/2017 16:06

thecatfromjapan

Avidly waiting for part 2!!! Can it feature frozen curries??

RubyWinterstorm · 26/10/2017 16:07

AnnieOH1, yes, because people are allowed to be aggressive and intimidating if it is for a good cause Grin

Even if the good cause is entirely imaginary.

catfromjapan nailed it!

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/10/2017 16:25

thecatfromjapan That's brill, do you write?

Viviennemary · 26/10/2017 16:34

Yes I would report her. What a cheek. It will probably all be on CCTV. But on the other hand if somebody is so poor they need to get all these sandwiches for 10p maybe we should feel sorry for them.

Jaxhog · 26/10/2017 16:37

Wow, that was rude. Yes, report her.

manicinsomniac · 26/10/2017 16:42

I probably wouldn't bother complaining but would also have really embarrassed and disconcerted.

I suppose, if she had a big enough freezer, she could make use of them all - 3 weeks worth of lunches for £2!! Very selfish though

LineysRun · 26/10/2017 16:44

Catfromjapan Cookson strikes again! Smile

I've noticed our Asda staff increasingly not giving a flying fuck. Maybe they've given up on training, or something.

stillvicarinatutu · 26/10/2017 16:45

they obviously dont know she is doing this or they wouldnt have bothered announcing the reduction over the tannoy.

id say something and i dont usually. not on imo. greedy cow!

HelloSunshine11 · 26/10/2017 16:47

When I worked at ASDA (albeit years ago) we weren't allowed on the shop floor in uniform if we were off shift, had to at least have a jacket on covering our top completely if we were doing our own shopping. There's no way we would have been allowed to do what she did. I would absolutely contact the store manager.

Namechangetempissue · 26/10/2017 16:56

I would have said something to her along the lines of 'you need not be so rude, a tannoy announcement was made so I came straight over. I didn't realise you had purchased all of this' and walk away. I would also have asked to speak to the manager. Hands off indeed -rude. It would have been just as easy to say 'sorry, these have all been purchased' (even though they are not supposed to clear a whole sales trolley while in uniform)

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 26/10/2017 17:45

It's sad that Asda pay their staff so little that they have to fight with customers for reduced food.
I suspect it's as much a case of being low paid and not treated very well so care a lot less about how much effort you put into doing your job. Market economics.
