Please?

I love an "odd" story...things that are just a bit weird or unexplained but not really ghosty.

Caorich do you have unusual eyes or a birth mark? Are you a secret reptilian? So secret even you don’t know about it? That’s so strange.

I came home from work one afternoon to discover a huge puddle of water on the floor in the hallway / entrance to the dining room. Initially I thought something upstairs must be leaking and ran straight up the stairs to check. No floods, no wet patches anywhere, bathroom fine. I was the last one to leave, and first one home, kids at school, partner at work.

Came down to investigate further, no wet patches on the walls or ceiling, no cups or bottles nearby to have been spilt. Cleared up water and investigated floor boards, no sign of water coming up through ground. It was definitely water not juice or urine or anything else. Noticed my 5 year old son's coat hanging on the hook to the left of water puddle - it was soaking wet, on the hood, down the back. It had not rained in any of the days leading up to then so coat was dry previously. It was raining that day though, pretty heavily, but obviously ds was already at school now without a coat
(my mistake) No other coats or bags on the hooks around it or under it were wet, it was not wet on the ceiling above, neither were the rack of shoes directly beneath or the floor directly beneath.

Just a huge puddle of water and a wet coat about a foot away seemingly unrelated to each other. I questioned every one about it, even rang up kid's dad to find out if he'd been in the house (somehow, without keys
) no joy. Had lived there for a couple years at this point and it was over a year ago now, nothing like it has happened before or since (and it's obviously rained lots since then).

I've never been so unable to come up with a theory in my life! Really weird! Suggestions welcome!

Halebeke425 · 11/11/2017 02:06

Forgot to say, most of the water was one big puddle but some of it was like drops/splashes. Ceiling and walls were completely bone dry though.

This is the best book if you like strange tales. It’s big. I’ve had it for 30 years and can still pick it up and find new stuff.

I have a copy too! It's the best book ever!

Can anyone remember the name of the village where a person wanted to give evidence that a ghost had told him X had committed a murder, and the judge refused to admit it because it was hearsay?

Toadinthehole · 11/11/2017 07:28

Found it!

Southam Warks

When a Southam farmer disappeared in 1820, a man called on the farmer's wife and told her that, on the previous night, he had been visited by her husband's ghost. The spectre showed him stab wounds in its body, and told him they had been inflicted by a man named Peter Thomas who had afterwards concealed the corpse in a marl pit. A search was made, the corpse was found as the man described, and Thomas was arrested.

At his trial, however, the judge presumably smelling a rat ruled that the ghost's evidence was hearsay, and therefore inadmissible unless, of course, the ghost appeared in court. The phantom was summoned three times, how this was done is not stated but when it failed to materialise, Thomas was released by the court. The judge ordered his accuser to be detained; the man later confessed to the murder and was hanged in the following year.

Toadinthehole · 11/11/2017 07:30

Would love to know if the ghost was summoned in accordance with criminal procedure of the time, or whether the judge did some sort of occult ceremony.

I have another one..

When I was about 10 or 11 I had a disturbing very vivid dream. First of all I saw lots of large houses set into leafy hills and knew that I lived in one of them. Then I was in my (dream) house, with friends and we were having a get together. It was nothing like real life, I was a grown up and had long blonde hair (I saw it fluttering at the corners of my eyes every now and then) my house was large and luxurious. I remember feeling really happy, my friends and I were having a nice evening together.
The dream changed suddenly and I had a feeling of absolute terror. I was running through the house, with the impression that I was being 'chased by monsters '. That was the thought in my head though I can't remember seeing monsters. I was terrified for my life, I saw blood smeared on a wall. That was it. It left such a vivid impression on me, I told my mum all about it the next day and remembered it very clearly ever since.

Well, fast forward a few years, I think I was about 15 and flicking through the TV channels one night and I suddenly saw the exact image from my dream of the houses set into the side of a hill. I recognised it immediately from my dream and stopped to watch.

It was a documentary about the murder of Sharon Tate by the Manson family. She was killed at home in Beverly Hills, along with some friends who were round for a get together. Sharon had long blonde hair and there was blood smeared on the walls. I'm sure it said that the killers wore animal masks too ('monsters') but I haven't since been able to confirm that in reading about it online. I had never heard of Sharon Tate or the killings before this moment, it happened in 1969 I must of had the dream around 2000ish.

I watched that documentary completely shocked and bewildered! I'm not 'woo' at all but my mum is and said it must be reincarnation.

I've since rationalised it as I must of heard about the murders before and forgot but tbh honest I try not to think about it, the feeling of terror in the dream was so real it makes my blood run cold :(

I lived in a very haunted house a few years ago. Apparently about 5 sets of people had moved in and out in very quick succession because they couldn't handle it. We had all sorts going on - children's footsteps running, dark shadowy figures watching us, pictures turned round from portrait to landscape, a washing line full of washing unhooked (it was a one of those curved hooks so couldn't just have fallen off), a little girl used to appear in a long white nightie and a little boy in Victorian clothes, the piano played on its own, children shouting mummy, children running in and throwing themselves onto our bed in the night, door handles going down on their own. There was probably a lot more as well but I can't remember right now!

Katyb1310 · 11/11/2017 10:53

Sorry, just realised you didn't want ghostly - ignore mine!

i dont know if this counts, but im dying to share what happened yesterday.

I moved to a new area just under 11 months ago, I made a new friend at DDs school, she is mum to a child in DDs class.

It turns out that she went to the same school as me but a few years before, so it makes sense she would have known DDs dad, which came up in conversation...more so she wouldnt mention me or DD if she sees him.

So we met again yesterday, she tells me, look i know where he lives, you wont run into him any time soon because he is out of the area...

so I stopped worrying about bumping into him, and any of his family, his family all live 30ish miles from here and wouldnt visit if not for him.

I picked DD up from school, went to do a bit of shopping as were doing the house up.

Who should be behind me in the queue? His family.

I had only spoken about these people hours before, and I never speak about them! and I havent seen them in almost 10 years.

just seemed so weird.

Several months ago I was meeting friends in a nearby town, walked from one village to the next to catch the bus. Not a bad walk , about twenty five minutes or so. Was a very hot day . The area is very rural and unchanged - have seen photographs from 100 years ago and instantly recognisable.

Very quiet walk, only two cars and a buzzard or something flying above me. Quite early.

Walked past a farmhouse that I know would have had children at one point, as there was a rotting tree house for years.

As I walked past heard a branch snap and turned round - just for all of 5 seconds I clearly saw a child aged about 11 in early 70s fashion (long hair, flares) grinning at me from behind a tree. I blinked and looked again - they were gone. I stood there for a minute watching and no sign of anyone except farmer. It was a weird feeling - as if I'd seen something that had happened a long time ago, then blinked and things were back to present day again. Very strange.

Similar happenings at work - colleagues would report having seen people walk past who weren't actually there - usually elderly couples. It was a hospital so would have to check that it wasnt a genuine lost person.

I live in new build and have heard a lot of stories about trades people who retain keys to use the toilets

This happened to us!

Shiftymake · 11/11/2017 13:34

This story is of my very first memory, I was 1 year 8 months old when this happened, and as weird as this sounds most of my memories have been confirmed by family members, much to their horror. I was asleep when this great white light appeared, imagine the warmest, brightest, strongest light you can think of and then double that. I felt safe, happy and awake for the first time, can not remember anything before this moment. I then got up and went to a washroom that was in the middle of the house and a nursery table stood in the middle with my newborn brother laying on it. My mother lifted me up and I looked at him, was put down and wandered off. End of memory. Had a healer around while visiting my mother and talked about random stuff when I mentioned my story. My mother adds to this story. It was a homebirth that could have cost her her life. She was bleeding extensively and 3 hours from the nearest hospital so she had to use her training to save herself. She is a trained medical professional so she knew that having the baby breastfeed helps stop the bleeding by prompting the body to help contract the uterus. As she pointed out, had it been me she would have probably died, I spent hours before feeding the first time, whilst my dlb latched on right away. Healer points out that it was my guardian angel letting me know that everything would be fine/good, although I at the time had no idea what was going on. I had talked about this memory to my mother as a child so she knew it before hand. Other memories after this first one has also been confirmed, and the confirming of my first memory is the layout of my bedroom and where I first saw my db, we moved from this place when we were very young. Till this day the thought of the memory makes me really happy, not had anything like that since.

Another Doppelganger one - French teacher said she had seen a magazine photo of a girl who looked exactly like me. I didn't really believe it, but later the teacher brought in the mag to show me, and it was true. The girl was a student on the front page of 'L'Express magazine. I was so intrigued, for years, until I was able to track down the exact copy of the page on the internet,
