Please?

I love an "odd" story...things that are just a bit weird or unexplained but not really ghosty.

Belligerent - i sometimes have the "looking without seeing" thing, I can be looking straight at the thing I need but don't register it for some reason, usually when I'm tired -could be that.

(Also placemarking for this amazing thread!)

QuestionableMouse · 25/10/2017 14:44

Had a weird one a few years ago.

I was sitting on the floor wrapping Christmas gifts and put the scissors down next to me. Finished what I was doing and reached for them again. Not there. I hadn't moved and there was nothing on the floor they could have been hidden by. Searched the whole room for them and they'd just vanished.

The weirdest bit was they turned up again later in my bed. I'd bought new sheets and had made the bed, but left the quilt folded back down. Went out, so there was no one in the house. Came back later and the quilt was pulled up and tucked in tightly. When I pulled it back, the bloody scissors that had vanished were neatly tucked under the pillow.

Really creeper me out!

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2017 14:46

Our big plastic jug has gone completely missing - not very spooky but it's a mystery indeed! Turned the house upside down looking for it and it isn't the kind of thing that could have fallen down the back of the sofa!!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 25/10/2017 14:47

Snow White on a good day! Im very pale, small face, dark hair and brown eyes.

Although I've also been compared to Mavis from Hotel Transylvania so i think the most likely explanation was that they thought I was probably a vampire.

Itsanicehotel · 25/10/2017 14:51

Another explanation for the Woolpit children was they might have had hypochromic anaemia which can give the skin a green tinge.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2017 14:55

possibly casued by a limited diet and therefore improved when their diet was changed but too late for older child?

Not RTFT yet...but just wanted to add my own (I'm not woo at all btw!)

When I was maybe 15? I was staying with my Nan (who, before anyone says, was only young at the time, and def not having a "moment")

I should add at the time I was a gothy type, in a town where goth types were nearly non existent, and on the day in question was wearing a really unusual purple top with medieval style long pointy sleeves I'd ordered from the US, and a pair of black "rave" trousers with loads of "bits" hanging off them (remeber them? Grin)

I also had black dreads, so wasn't exactly hard to spot! Grin

Sitting at her house, when she got in from shopping.
Nan: What are you doing here??!
Me: Huh? I've been in all morning?
Nan: But I just saw you as I was going past on the bus, walking down the road!
Me: (thinking Nan was being having a moment) Nan are you ok?
Nan: I'm telling you...you were wearing that exact outfit and walking down the road.

It would be easy to write this off as my Nan being weird, but throughout the years enough similar things have happened that I really honestly think I have a weird doppleganger.

So I have always had a relatively "unusual" style, which has changed over the years, no matter how many times I have changed clothing/hairstyle, I still get weird conversations that go like this....

Friend: I saw you in town today, why did you ignore me??
Me: Confused I've been nowhere near town!
Friend: BUT I SAW YOU!

I mean ffs, I have a turquoise "dreadhawk" with "skinhead" sides, dress oddly and still people claim to have seen me where I wasn'T.

The key to this is I get people coming up to me in the street every so often acting like they've known me all my life and saying happily "OMG! Teresa!", cue me looking very confused and saying "Ummm no I'm Karen".

So all I can assume is that somewhere very locally to me is a woman of similar age, height, build, and of the same (for here) rather unusual tastes in clothes and hairstyle.

Not woo but still fucking weird, and has been happening for over 20 years!!

EvilDemonRaspberryOverlord · 25/10/2017 15:14

I believe the consensus about Elisa Lam is that she was having a psychotic episode, no foul play involved. I've seen explanations posted on other threads on MN, but some of them were in chat and may not be around.

EdgarAllanPO · 25/10/2017 15:18

Before a big event happens in my life, usually something quite dramatic, bad or sad it doesn't happen much about the same as most people I seem to have odd experiences with birds. I know, it's weird.
The first time I remember it happening was about 12 years ago, a little bird, my friend identified it as some sort of tit Grin kept flying from a branch outside my bedroom window and crashing about against the pane. It went on for days and really freaked me out, seriously this thing looked evil. How can a wee bird like that even look evil? Then the bad situation happened and ever since I've noticed these strange occurrences and think oh fuck my lucks about to change.
It's most odd but definitely my thing.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 25/10/2017 15:22

What I mean is...if I lived in e.g. Brighton, or Camden, it totally wouldn't be surprisin...there's thousands of women who look like me!

But in my little town, with virtually no "alternative" scene except the people I already know, it's really, really weird to have a look a like that looks so much like you that even friends of 20 years think it's you!

I'd love to meet her.

Though my more "woo" friend thinks it's me "projecting" myself (which doesn't explain the other womans name I get called) or me living a sort of unconcious "double life" when I'm asleep.

Another friend put forward the idea it might be me from the future, or some sort of "echo".

Fuck knows tbh!

EdgarAllanPO · 25/10/2017 15:27

Lana I have a friend who claims she travels about in her sleep. Her aunt woke up once with her hovering above her bed GrinGrinGrin I love her so much!
Maybe you are?

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 25/10/2017 15:33

Lana I have a friend who claims she travels about in her sleep. Her aunt woke up once with her hovering above her bed

Weirdly...I did once have a dream where I was falling off a cliff, and when I woke up I was bouncing up and down on the bed like I'd just "landed" on it from a height.

I presumed (being a incredibly sceptical type of person) that I'd stood up or something in my sleep, then dropped back down again...but maybe I was actually floating! Shock Grin

I'm open to (sensible) suggestions!

EdgarAllanPO · 25/10/2017 15:36

I think that's called a hypnic jerk lana and our brain links the sensation to falling or maybe just a really vivid dream.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 25/10/2017 15:41

Yeah isn't a form of that "leg twitch" thing?

I get that as well.

When I'm falling asleep, sometimes I'll have a really vivid dream my legs have suddenly stopped working, and as I "fall" I'll jerk myself awake.

I actually find the human brain's tricks a lot more fascinating than the woo stuff.
It's mad what our own brain can convince us is happening. (and I say this as someone with a sister with severe paranoid schizophrenia)

Anasnake · 25/10/2017 15:52

Bold st, Liverpool - time slips .

InvisibleKittenAttack · 25/10/2017 15:56

Lana - there is obviously someone else with similar style as you in your town! It could be that because it's so unusual, people aren't looking for additional markers to if it's you or not - so if you have shoulder length mousy brown hair and wore skinny jeans and long sleeved t-shirts, like many other woman in the area, they'd look closely at the person they saw before thinking it was you, but clearly are seeing just enough to assume it's you.

It could be you have met your double, but look nothing like her, so don't think it's obviously your double!

Marriageoftrueminds · 25/10/2017 17:25

Ooh I love a good mystery/weird story! Here’s mine: when I was about 12 I was walking home from school (about half an hour walk) and my mum suddenly pulled up next to me. This was unusual as she was a teacher in a totally different town and was never home before 6 - she must have left work really early. When I got in the car she was really agitated and asked where my sister (let’s call her Jane) was. I said I didn’t know, Jane is two years older than me and we never used to walk home together. Mum was really upset and kept saying we needed to find Jane, something was wrong. She couldn’t really explain what but we drove round and round the town before Mum gave up and we drove home. When we got there though, Jane was upstairs in bed really unwell (in the end it turned out only to be a severe migraine but we were really worried). My sister hadn’t wanted to ‘bother’ my mum and had a free period at school so had just gone home. My mum somehow sensed it. I remember her triumphantly saying to me as we waited for the doctor - ‘I told you someone was wrong with Jane!’

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 25/10/2017 18:27

Thank you Anasnake! Never heard of this before. But will be checking it out

Anasnake · 25/10/2017 18:48

Happy - it fascinated me ! Walked down that road many times but never gone time travelling unfortunately!

I dropped a full jar of face cream in the bathroom the other day. Lid off. Picked up the jar and it was totally empty. Looked everywhere for the cream (including up at the ceiling!) , never found it. Hmm

MeatAndPotato · 25/10/2017 19:45

Omg completely forgot about Bold Street 😯 which is embarrasing (scouser)

Here’s a link for it for anyone interested exemplore.com/paranormal/The-Liverpool-Time-Slips-The-True-Story-Of-Mysterious-Occurences-In-Bold-Street

TenForward82 · 25/10/2017 22:10

Teenage me walking home from school. Two people 40ft ahead of me kicking a can back and forth to each other. One misses, it goes under a parked car. They carry on walking. Silence in the street for at least 10 seconds. As I draw level with the parked car, the can suddenly shoots out from underneath it into the middle of the empty road and stops. The noise is loud enough that the people ahead of me turn back to look. I crouch down and look under the car. Nothing there. No explanation I can think of.

NotAnotherNameless · 25/10/2017 22:31

I hope this isn't confusing.
Last year I had an email from a lady who was responding to something I posted on a genealogy board about 12 or more years ago. She knew already that we were researching the same surname in the same large area but weren't related. She emailed to suggest I visit a particular church (odd enough for someone to be this helpful so long after the original posting).
I thanked her but said that I now lived in the UK but I'd keep it in mind if I was ever in that area. She messaged back and said she now lived on the UK too (Wales)... small world and all that moved there as a teenager. She asked where I lived and I told her the county in England that I now lived in and that I'd moved from (area that I grew up in and differs massively from the place where my ancestors lived). She said 'oh my daughter lives in ___' which is the SAME town I now live in and that she was actually going on holiday to the place where I grew up to research the another side of her family- that it turns out I am related to. so we were related after all.
I just can't explain how odd this is. I am from North America and the two places I'm talking about aren't exactly really close together. I even considered that someone was playing a joke on me and spent about an hour Facebook stalking this lady and her daughter.
