Please?

I love an "odd" story...things that are just a bit weird or unexplained but not really ghosty.

Getting on this thread

Not wildly exciting, this one (sorry), but a bit strange nonetheless.

I needed a certain classic but evidently unpopular book for university research. The campus library didn't have a copy so I ordered a cheap second hand one online.

When it arrived, I opened it to find my university's stamp inside, crossed through in pencil. So, my book had once been on their shelves but was evidently sold during a clear-out, and I inadvertently tracked down the same copy.

Meat Can you link us up? Some of those sound fascinating, but I couldn’t find them on Google...

MeatAndPotato · 24/10/2017 22:56

I’m on it Wink

MeatAndPotato · 24/10/2017 22:59

How do I post links? Do I just copy and paste the URL’s in the regular comment box I am writing in now?

The Woolpit children were thought to be the children of Flemish or French dyers and merchants -hence their coloured skin and strange language.

I flew over the gobi desert when i was 10 in the late 89s. There were pictures, huge, on the ground, i remember them clearly and in detail. Ive googled since. They were very like the nazca lines but wrong desert / continent Confused i didn't learn about the nazca lines until years later so i couldn't have dreamt or imagined them

Oh I love a good Devon legend. The devils footprints went through my hometown in Exmouth and went 90° up walls and across roofs. The devils playing cards on Dartmoor. Kitty Jay's grave and the flowers that arrive every year. The hairy hand of Dartmoor. Being Piski (pixi) led (driving and getting lost on the moors. Ledgend has it if you turn your coat inside out you will find you way back again)
Been bought up with so many of these. I love a local legend.

When I first moved into my flat, an old Lady had lived there before me apparently. A couple of nights after I had moved in I was lying (alone) in my double bed when I had the strangest feeling that there was someone else lying in my bed, on the other side of me. It was such a strong feeling but somehow I wasn't scared and believe me I am right scaredy cat usually and it was as if it was the old Lady saying 'hi' to me. I can't explain it but it was the strongest feeling and I have never forgotten it.

I live on a hill in the middle of nowhere and it is remote. The land rolls down into a shallow s-shaped river valley. One summer evening (northern hemisphere) at around 9pm I went outside to do something in the garden. It was a clear evening. I looked up and moving against the direction of the breeze following the valley precisely was a dark irregular shape about the size of a football pitch, moving with its own motion around 20/25 mph totally silent. It was clearly neither a plane, helicopter nor a balloon. It was massive though. About 5 minutes later I saw it settle on a field, about 3 minutes after that it had gone completely. There were other witnesses too plus a dog that barked frantically at it.

This is nothing really compared to everyone else's stories but about 6 or so months ago whilst out with DH doing some shopping a few odd things happened.

Went to first shop and a young girl shopping with her mum starts staring at me, but so intensely that once I'd walked past her she actually turned around and started walking backwards so as not to take her eyes off of me. Freaked me out a bit but laughed it off.

Went to second shop and same thing happens with a little boy. Started to feel very uncomfortable then.

On the way home and pass a family in the street with two little girls. Both of them proceed to do the same thing but one of them has a look of utter fear and horror on her face.

It really put me on edge. I have two DC myself so I like to think I'm really not that scary! DH thought it was hilarious and proceeded to tell all of our friends. The general consensus seemed to be that it's because I look like a couple of cartoon characters (I know that sounds ridiculous but it's true) and they were probably staring for that reason and it happens all the time without me noticing Confused

TitaniasCloset · 25/10/2017 14:04

What cartoon character?

I'm going to suggest marge simp son :o

DontKnowWhatToDo123 · 25/10/2017 14:18

My strange one is when my 3 yr old son was bouncing happily on the bed then suddenly stopped, looked at me and said "I'm getting a baby sister" then carried on bouncing like nothing had happened.

a week or so later my period was late, I did a test and was pregnant....with his baby sister!!!!

velvetcandy · 25/10/2017 14:18

I've had lots of odd/creepy/woo things happen to me over the years. Two that are just odd are: me and ex went to stay in a very posh hotel in London and there were about 20 cushions on the bed. We made a point out of saying "oh wow there's so many cushions blah blah blah". So we went out that night got back and all the cushions had disappeared! I just assumed housekeeping took them. On checkout I mentioned it to the lady at the desk somthing along the lines of "why did housekeeping come and take our cushions" and she said errr no they don't come and remove cushions? Was really odd, I would genuinely love to know what happened to the bloody cushion lol we didn't get charged for them either btw

Other odd thing. Down the road I lived on with my parents there was an old Victorian house that was very run down. It got purchased at auction and the bloke who bought it moved in. I was 16 at this point, anyway he was always out the front or in the front facing room working on it and would start following me to the cafe I worked in when I walked past his house, he followed me and just stood in the doorway then turned around and went. This happened most days. Sometimes he would come back hours later and just stand there staring at me Hmm. Odd thing is I never told anyone and no-one caught onto it. I ended up calling the police when I saw him walking down my garden path and staring in my window. After the police spoke to him I literally never saw him again. Very odd

velvetcandy · 25/10/2017 14:20

I forgot to say I'd been on a shopping spree that day and all my shopping bags were lined up neat by the window!!! Not all over the hotel room as I left them!Confused

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 25/10/2017 14:27

Who else dialled the 0888 number?!

oldlaundbooth · 25/10/2017 14:28

Used to work in an old school, circa 1850's.

I was assistant to the head, my office next to hers, a little reception area in between. Was chatting to a colleague in my office. Someone /thing walked straight into the head's office.

I called out 'hello!?' and colleague turned around and looked too. We both thought it was odd / rude.

I got up and went to look in her office.

No one there.

Very weird, especially as it wasn't just me who saw, colleague definitely saw someone walk in too!

I would not have been in that place at night for all the money in England, during the day it was fine but at night? Creepy.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 25/10/2017 14:28

Something that happened just today.

Staying at my parents with the kids, I went to get clothes for the two youngest out of their respective suitcases. Got my seven year olds but couldn't find any socks in his case (even though I distinctly remember packing three pairs). Went to get four year olds stuff and then came back in to search again for missing socks and there, on the top of the pile was a pair of black socks.

Nobody else was upstairs. I'd left the suitcase open on the bed, I have no idea how they got there. I'm sure there is a logical explanation but I can't think of it.
