To think that trick or treating by teenagers and a week early is unacceptable?

Group of four teenage lads knocked on my door last night for trick or treat. Wearing normal clothes. Loved the jack Willis hoody and 99p mask combo.

Told them halloween was next week and aren't they a bit old. One of them retorted. "I'm in court next week".

Gave them nothing but saw them carrying on down the steet. Should I have called 101?

Why would you ring 101? They haven't broken the law!!

YANBU to be annoyed and you did the roght thing turning them away. Not 101 as they didnt intimidate you.

We had a couple turn up a day early one year. When we pointed out they were early they said it was because "we have a wide area to cover."
I know another teen who went round on 1/11 offering to take any left over treats that people hadn't disposed of the night before - and very surprisingly got quite a haul
But YANBU - Halloween is for one night only. Did you give them anything?

So teenagers asking for money at the door is okay? clearly some parents approve of this then!

Yanbu. I laugh and tell them they can try their luck on Halloween itself. They seem to expect this!

No one said it was OK. It is however legal and given the time of year pretty much normal, if cheeky. Do you really think teens being cheeky is a police matter?

So what about the elderly people and people with young children who would be disturbed by a people knocking at 20.45.

Presumably if the teenagers knocked on their doors they sorted it out just like you did. Or didn't answer at all.

I told the group who tried this to come back on Halloween in costume - they did! Full on costumes with face paint and everything. I heard this voice from behind a mask saying ‘you told us to come back tonight so we did’
They were being cheeky and chancing their arm a bit, not breaking the law. Leave it.

I would be irritated by anyone knocking unannounced after 8.30.

I’d have told the teens ‘bye’ and closed the door on them, wouldn’t make a call about them.

Its not illegal so the police wouldn't be interested. If thwy did it every night for a week then is might become a police matter or if they intimidated you in any way.

So everyone who is so cool with this you would be fine for your teenage ds to do this?

Meh - we get this - not every year but maybe every other year. As others have said I simply tell them I have nothing in but to come back at Halloween. One pair did suggest they would be fine with cash instead. They didn't get any...

Cheeky? Yup. But no worse than say door to door salesman who won't take no for an answer.

no I would tell him to wait till the 31st. but if he came home and said he went trick or treating a week early I wouldn't try and get him arrested. hth!
